Raising Yanderes to save the world

Chapter 291: Ch 290: Easy way to get a new job

  • Next Chapter

Kael quickly came to realize that the world he had returned to was different from the one he had died in before.

Apparently, he had parents in this world...

But he quickly understood what the doctor meant by parents.

’I have never seen these people in my life before. Are they sure I am their son?’

Kael looked at the worried couple in front of him with a detached look on his face. The lady was crying her eyes out, sobbing about how her ’baby’ was suffering so badly. But all Kael saw was bad acting on their part.

They were not even trying to hide how awkward they felt while calling him their son.

But the doctor did not seem to care, and after checking up on him a few more times, he decided to call it a day and head out.

Finally, Kael got an opportunity to talk to his ’parents’, and he decided to interrogate them.

"Who are you and what are you doing here? I don’t have any parents, much less you two."

The lady broke down into more fake tears and started to babble.

"How can you say that about us? Do you have amnesia as well, son? Oh no! I need to see the insurance company about this-"

And of course, there it was! The real reason these ’parents’ had shown up out of nowhere and decided to help him.

"You can drop the act. There are no cameras around this room, so no one will be able to see what you are doing."

As soon as Kael said that, the lady stopped fake crying, and her face twisted into a sinister sneer.

It was clear what they thought of him.

"Now, can you both tell me why you decided to pretend to be my parents? How was that even allowed? Did not one check..."

Of course not! This was the modern world where money ruled. As long as you had money and connections, you could even become someone else.

His ’mother’ smiled at him in the same unsettling way before she spoke.

"Well, dear son, it is quite easy to scam insurance companies when the hospital is in on it. But even they make mistakes sometimes. You were not supposed to wake up! Now, why don’t you do us all a favor and die?"

The lady pretending to be his mother spat these words out at him, but Kael did not feel anything even after hearing them.

He had heard so much worse, and these people were virtually strangers. Except...

"You took my insurance money, right? Return the exact amount to me right now."

Kael knew how these scams worked. After all, he was in the medical industry as well, and he had seen all kinds of things.

There was no way this couple had just listed his normal injuries and called it a day. They would have tried to get as much money as possible.

Their expressions told Kael they had done exactly what he thought they would, but they quickly tried to gaslight him into thinking he was wrong.

"What do you mean? All the money we received was used up on your medical bills. We even had to chip-"

"Do you know that I am a doctor as well? I know how things like these work. Or would you rather grab a list of my actual injuries and mail it to my insurance company?"

Kael asked, and the couple suddenly looked hard-pressed.

In the end, they agreed to pay Kael as much as they could and discharged him from the hospital. The corrupt place was not willing to keep him any longer.

So Kael returned home...or rather, what used to be his home, but it was already rented out to someone else.

His former landlord looked shocked to see him, but he quickly recovered, and instead of having pity, he told Kael that his stuff had already been sold second-hand because no one expected him to wake up.

Now he neither had a place to stay nor any of his stuff.

Moreover, he also doubted he had his job anymore because he had been absent for two years already.

"Great! So not only is my life in shambles, now I don’t even have any money."

Luckily, the insurance money he got was sufficient enough to get him a room for six months. But that still left food and other expenses.

"Well, I better get my ass back in the job market. I cannot believe I have been out of this for so long already."

Kael complained as he started applying for jobs.

Not only did he apply for jobs in the medical field, but he applied for jobs in other fields he was overqualified for as well.

Knowing the current market, he was not sure if he was even going to get a call back, so he was starting to look for ways around it. But a miracle happened.

He actually got a call, and from an unexpected place at that.

Kael doubted his eyes when he first saw the information of the company that reached out, but it was actually a multinational company with billions in yearly profits and good benefits.

He was sure that it was a mistake on their part to send him a selection letter, but he still went to the interview either way.

He sat in the huge room with a panel of four people asking him questions about how long he had worked in the medical field and what he liked to do.

Kael felt like he was making too many mistakes throughout the interview. He was sure he had not even answered a single question correctly.

However, the panel in front of him was smiling back at him in a way that made him feel nervous.

"Ah, please don’t look so nervous, Sir Kael. This is just standard procedure. But we have to say that we are impressed by your knowledge. So we would like to offer you a job. Do you think you can start tomorrow?"

Kael was selected...just like that? Did that even make sense?

’Is this a prank? Or a scam? Does this contract have anything hidden or troublesome? Should I get it looked over?’

Seeing Kael’s suspicion made the council in front of him let out a laugh.

"It seems like our new employee is rather cautious. You can read that document as much as you would like. But we can assure you that it is our standard contract. Please let us know when you can join us."

Kael decided not to take any risks. He took the contract to a lawyer who confirmed the words from earlier—this was a genuine contract without any hidden clauses to trap him or sell his organs.

Kael stared at the contract for a few seconds after hearing the lawyer’s confirmation before he finally let out a long sigh.

’So, this is actually real...’

It was hard for him to believe that he had somehow managed to land such a good job after being absent from society for two years. Normally, companies would have rejected someone with such a long gap without even giving him an opportunity to explain himself.

But this company had not only accepted him, but they had also offered him a salary that was almost ridiculous compared to what he had expected.

There had to be something wrong.

And yet, after checking the contract several times and even having a lawyer look through it, Kael could not find anything suspicious.

"Well, I guess I have no reason to refuse anymore."

Kael signed the contract and sent it back to the company before he leaned back in his chair.

For the first time since waking up in this strange world, he felt like things were finally starting to move in the right direction.

He had a place to stay, enough money to survive for a while, and now he had a job.

It was not the life he remembered having before, but it was enough to start over.

The next morning, Kael arrived at the company building earlier than necessary.

He had expected a relatively normal office building, but the sight in front of him made him stop in his tracks.

The building was enormous, with dozens of floors reaching toward the sky, and the company logo was displayed proudly above the entrance.

"Are they really going to let me work here?"

Kael muttered as he looked up at the building.

He still felt like someone was going to come running after him and tell him that there had been a mistake.

But no one did.

Instead, the receptionist greeted him with a smile as soon as he entered.

"Good morning. You must be Mr. Kael. We have been expecting you."

Kael blinked at her words.

"You were expecting me?"

"Yes. Your department head asked me to send you directly to his office once you arrived."

She handed him an employee card before pointing toward the elevators.

Kael thanked her and headed upstairs.

The strange thing was that everyone seemed to know who he was.

Some employees glanced at him before quickly looking away, while others whispered among themselves when he passed.

It made Kael feel like he had somehow become famous without knowing it.

’Did they make some kind of mistake when they hired me?’

He decided to ignore the strange looks and continued walking until he reached the department head’s office.

He knocked on the door before entering.

A middle-aged man was sitting behind the desk, and the second he saw Kael, his expression brightened.

"Ah, you finally came. I have been waiting for you."

Kael felt his suspicion return immediately.

"Waiting for me?"

The man smiled before standing up and extending his hand.

"Yes. We have been waiting for someone like you for a very long time."

Kael stared at his hand for a few seconds before reluctantly shaking it.

And for some reason, he suddenly had a very bad feeling about this job.
