Raising Yanderes to save the world

Chapter 293: Ch 292: It will be fine eventually

  • Next Chapter

Kael decided that he had enough of the strange medical room for one day.

There was still a lot that bothered him about the place, especially the locked cabinet and the strange reaction his supervisor had when he saw the security footage, but there was nothing he could do about it without drawing unnecessary attention to himself.

He had only just started working there, so digging into every strange occurrence on his first day would only make him look suspicious.

For now, he needed to focus on getting used to his new life.

He packed his things and left the building once his working hours were over, only to stop outside and take a deep breath.

The fresh air felt surprisingly nice after spending the entire day inside an unfamiliar office, and Kael found himself looking up at the evening sky as he tried to convince himself that everything would eventually settle down.

"So this is my new life..."

He muttered to himself before shaking his head.

It was still strange to think about, especially since he had already experienced two different lives before ending up here.

He had spent years as a therapist in his first life, then lived as Grand Master Kael in a fantasy world where he had fought monsters, taught heroes, dealt with gods and corruption, and somehow ended up becoming the center of attention for several dangerous women.

Compared to all of that, working in a medical department should have been easy.

At least, that was what he wanted to believe.

Kael decided to walk home instead of taking public transportation because he wanted some time to clear his head.

The city around him was busy, with people returning from work and cars filling the streets, and for a moment, he almost felt like he had returned to his first life.

There was something strangely comforting about it.

He had not expected to miss this kind of world as much as he did. But being back in his regular life felt relieving.

"Maybe I really can start over here. I do miss the kids, but I am sure they will thrive in their own. After all, I no longer exist in their life."

Kael smiled faintly as he continued walking, but the thought barely lasted a few minutes before he reached a busy intersection.

The pedestrian light turned green, and Kael stepped forward with the other people around him.

He was halfway across the road when he heard the sudden roar of an engine. His instincts immediately screamed at him to move.

Kael turned his head and saw a car speeding toward the intersection.

It was coming far too fast, and the driver seemed to have completely lost control of the vehicle.

"Wait, what-"

His first instinct was to try and cast a spell, only to realize that he no longer had any magic at his disposal.

Kael tried to move backward, but his foot caught against the edge of the pavement, causing his balance to shift dangerously. The car was getting closer by the second, and he quickly realized that there was no way he could get out of its path in time.

His body reacted on instinct as he tried to brace himself, but there was nothing he could do.

He had no magic here so there was no barrier he could summon, no spell he could cast, and no sword he could use to defend himself.

For the first time since coming to this world, Kael was completely helpless.

Luckily, before the car could hit him, someone grabbed the back of his jacket and violently pulled him backward.

Kael felt his body crash against another person before the car flew past him.

The vehicle missed him by less than a meter before the driver finally slammed on the brakes, causing the tires to screech loudly against the road.

Kael stood there frozen for several seconds as his heart pounded inside his chest.

He had almost died.

Again.

Kael slowly turned his head to see who had grabbed him, only for his expression to stiffen.

The familiar face staring back at him belonged to none other than his supervisor. The same man who had a face almost identical to Leon’s had made sure he stayed alive.

"You really need to be more careful."

His supervisor said as he released Kael’s jacket, his expression surprisingly calm considering what had just happened.

Kael stared at him in silence before looking toward the car.

The driver had already gotten out and was rushing toward them with a pale expression on his face.

"Oh my god, are you alright? I am so sorry! The brakes suddenly stopped responding, and I couldn’t control the car!"

The driver looked genuinely terrified as he continued apologizing.

"I swear I wasn’t trying to hit you! The car was working perfectly fine this morning, so I have no idea what happened!"

Kael listened to the driver’s frantic explanation while looking at the vehicle.

There was nothing obviously wrong with it from where he was standing, and the driver seemed genuinely shaken by what had happened.

It would have been easy to accept his explanation.

But his years of experience with such things told him that it was not likely an accident.

’But who would want to kill a salary worker such as me? There has to be a motive behind such a crime, right?’

His supervisor had somehow appeared at exactly the right moment to save him.

Kael’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"How did you get here?"

His supervisor blinked.

"What?"

"You were behind me when I left the office."

"I took a different route. I like the coffee around here, so I came to grab one."

The answer came quickly, almost too quickly.

Kael stared at him for several seconds before looking away.

There was something wrong here and he could feel it.

At first, he had thought the strange behavior at the company was nothing more than an unfortunate coincidence.

The department head knowing about him, the strange comments about his past, the locked cabinet, the cabinet suddenly falling over when he was standing beside it, and now this accident could all have explanations.

But when everything started happening around the same person, it became harder to believe that all of it was random.

The driver was still apologizing profusely, but Kael barely heard him anymore.

His mind was already putting the pieces together.

First, he alsmot got crushed by that cabinet and now, on the very same day, Kael had nearly been killed by a car, only for his supervisor to appear at exactly the right moment and save him.

That was too much for him to consider a coincidence.

"I am fine."

Kael finally assured the driver, forcing a smile onto his face.

"You don’t need to worry about it. Just get your car checked before you drive it again."

The driver immediately nodded several times before apologizing one more time and returning to his vehicle.

Kael watched him leave before turning his attention back toward his supervisor.

The man was looking at him but there was nothing obviously suspicious about his expression, but Kael had spent years studying people, and he could tell when someone was hiding something.

"You really have good timing."

Kael said casually.

His supervisor smiled.

"I suppose I do."

That answer made Kael even more suspicious.

He had expected the man to deny it or make some excuse, but instead, he simply accepted the accusation without showing any sign of discomfort.

Kael looked at him for another moment before letting out a small laugh.

He opened his mouth to say something before he turned around and started walking again, but this time, he was much more alert than before.

He no longer believed that everything happening around him was coincidence.

There were simply too many strange things happening at once, and the more he thought about it, the more he began to suspect that his arrival in this world had not been as random as he initially believed.

The supervisor with Leon’s face disappeared back into the crowd soon after, leaving Kael alone. But the feeling of being watched did not go away.

’So, let’s say that someone is trying to kill me and is keeping an eye on me. But who couold it be? And for what purpose? As far as I know, I have never done anything to gain people’s anger. At least, not in this life.’

Kael tried to think over his past, but he had too many memories to sort through. But even still...to try and kill someone like this required time, money and influence. And Kael had made sure he never got entangled with someone who had all three of these things.

After all, who would want to befriend an orphan who could offer them nothing in return?

"Ugh, now I am starting to have a headache. I should head back for now and think about all this later. I am sure something will show up eventually."
