Chapter 373: I will become a god - Part 2

Elena’s eyes narrowed as she looked at the female in front of her. She had no idea what the female was saying, but it felt important.

Moreover, it seemed to be something Kael knew about.

‘Maybe I should hear her out after all.’

It was a gamble, but one Elena chose to take. She nodded at the others to back down before approaching the female who had just attacked the conference.

She was quick to put up a barrier around them so that no one would be able to interfere or see what they were talking about.

The unknown female’s eyes softened, and she looked thankful that Kael was willing to listen to her words and cooperate with her. She was too happy, but little did she know that it was all a trap.

Elena, who had set this trap, simply smiled back at the female and allowed her to speak.

“Your proposal sounds interesting. Care to tell me more about it?”

She asked in a charming voice, even using some of her magic to make the other woman speak up. And it worked.

The female in front of her nodded enthusiastically and decided to spill everything.

“It is about the mission given to us by the system. I want to become a god, and for that, I need to collect more cores. You will help me, right? I promise I will be a good god for humanity. I—”

“You think I will help you become a god? Why? Do I look like that kind of person?”

Elena asked in a quiet voice, which made the attacker look scared.

“Excuse me…? I…”

For the first time, the female attacker seemed to have realised that she had made a mistake. But she was not willing to admit it.

Instead, she got angry about what was happening and decided to voice her grievances.

“Why don’t you help me? Is it because you want to become a god? But you are not good enough. Only I am good enough to become the next god. So I—”

Elena grabbed the speaker’s face and crushed it under her hand.

“You barely have any power, and you want to become a god? Aren’t you dreaming a little too big? Do you think becoming a god is that easy?”

Elena asked in an emotionless voice.

The woman she was holding looked startled at first, but she quickly put on a determined expression.

“I have already started becoming a god, so it no longer matters how easy it is. I want to see this through at all costs. You just don’t understand. I am about to become a god—”

Elena sensed a disturbing power suddenly flaring around her, making the space around them start to break apart.

She looked at the woman in front of her and realised that it was the unstable woman’s power.

“I will become a god… A god… I have to become a god…”

Not only was the speaker unstable, but she also looked like she had no idea what she was doing. Her body movements, which had looked coordinated a few seconds ago, had started to fall apart as well.

“I will… become… a… god…”

Within a few seconds, the female shed her human body and became a monster. Her eyes looked at Elena, but there was not a shred of humanity inside them.

Looking at her was like looking at a monster that wanted to live only for its own pleasure.

The barrier she had cast around them started to crack quickly, causing Elena to let out a curse.

“Darn it! This is not good. This space is not going to last long, and once it collapses, everyone else will get caught in this mess. I need them to run away right now.”

Elena quickly gathered her magic to send a message outside the barrier while doing everything she could to keep it intact.

The crazy magic was going out of control, and it was tearing at her body and the barrier.

“Ugh, this is strong. I can see why you mistook yourself for a god. However—”

This was a far cry from the power of a god. In fact, it could not even be called an imitation at this level.

For those who had never seen the true power of a god, this might feel as though the power was transcending human limits, but Elena had faced off against a real goddess before. And this power felt like a cheap imitation of that grand power.

Still, it broke her barrier, and she noticed that the room had already been emptied.

“Hey, what is going on here? That person…”

Lyra started to speak but then trailed off as she watched the female’s face melting. The power she was carrying was too much for a human body.

* Sigh *

“She seems to have a severe case of identity crisis. She believes she is a god, and her powers are out of control. We will need to do something about this soon, or she will destroy the whole building.”

Destroying the building was not the problem. The real problem was the fact that they would have to pay for the damage.

And that was a terrifying thought.

Elena had learned enough about the modern world to know that capitalism was a huge problem that controlled the world. And while she did not care about it, she knew that Kael did.

And that was the only reason she was going to try and protect this place.

Elena raised her hands and began gathering her magic once more, preparing to restrain the monster before it could cause any more damage.

However, the moment she approached, the creature turned its head toward her, and the sheer pressure of its presence made the floor beneath their feet crack.

“Ugh, what a troublesome creature. Why can’t people just stay normal for once?”

She complained while preparing another spell, but Lyra had already moved forward, her expression turning serious.

“Let me handle this. If it keeps destroying the building, we’ll be in trouble.”

Elena could only sigh at her words.
