Seeing the ridiculous task, William’s entire body froze on the spot, as if he had been thrown into an icy pond.

For a moment, a frightening aura of pure chaos and bloodlust spilled out of his body, scaring some of the students who were passing by.

Clenching his teeth, William spat out the words in a barely audible voice.

"Eva, if this is a joke, then it’s not funny at all."

The spirit of the white pearl, whom William had recently given the name Eva, remained silent for a moment before replying in a low voice.

’It’s not a joke. You should seriously consider the task I issued.’

"Heh..." A smile filled with anger couldn’t help but appear on William’s face.

’You mean to say I should consider killing my friend? Eva, are you out of your mind?’

A sigh echoed inside William’s mind before he heard Eva’s serious voice.

’Have you forgotten what I told you about the tasks that I issue?’

William frowned at Eva’s words and recalled what she had told him when he received the second trial while on his way to the academy.

’According to her, she can glimpse possible futures using the energy she draws from the cracks in time. And the tasks she issues are related to the futures she sees...’

As he recalled these things, William’s eyes suddenly widened.

’You mean to say the reason you issued this task is because you saw something that is going to happen in the future. And that something is related to me and Liam.’

’I can’t say anything about it. My existence is something that is closely related to the River of Time. If I say something that might disturb its flow, some powerful Time Devourers might be able to sense us.’

’Closely related to the River of Time...’

Although he was confused by Eva’s words, William didn’t bother with it for the time being, as there was something more important.

’You can’t tell me the exact reason, but you should be able to tell me whether the task you issued is really because you saw something related to me and Liam in the future, right?’

Eva was silent for a moment, as if thinking about something. After some time, she finally responded.

’You guessed it right. The task is really because I saw something just now.’

William took a deep breath and walked over to a bench, sitting down while looking at the clear sky.

’Just what is going on here? Nothing like this happened in the original timeline, so whatever Eva saw must have happened because I changed something.’

A deep frown etched itself onto William’s face as he stared at the task on his status window.

Suddenly, his gaze fell on the time limit.

’Four months...’

His eyes narrowed as his gaze lingered on it.

’I don’t know how far into the future Eva looked or when the event that made her issue this task would happen. But since the time limit is four months, it can be confirmed that the reason that future event would occur is related to something happening within the next four months.’

William sat on the bench for a long time, thinking about what he should do.

’Kill Liam to erase all trouble...’

This thought appeared in his mind before he threw it out without even a second thought.

To him, Liam was like a brother with whom he had spent years and fought side by side during the war.

Even the thought of killing him made him feel like he wanted to vomit.

’What the hell should I do?’

William rubbed his face and tried his best to keep his emotions under control, or Vivian might sense them through their Pact.

"You are still here?"

Just as he was lost in thought, a familiar voice reached his ears, and William saw Liam walking out of the dormitory, his face and body once again oiled up.

Seeing his wheat-colored skin shining under the sunlight, William wanted to laugh but just couldn’t.

"Why are you sitting here?" Liam came to him and asked in an awkward voice.

’Holy God! It’s a good thing he didn’t come into the room. Otherwise, wouldn’t he have seen me reading that cultivation technique even though I rejected it earlier?’

William stared at Liam’s awkward expression and remained silent for a moment.

Seeing him staring at him as if he had seen through what he had been doing in the room, Liam felt even more embarrassed and laughed awkwardly.

"I actually just took a look at it. I felt like since it’s a gift from my sister-in-law and from you, refusing it would be disrespectful to you."

Hearing his made-up excuse, William couldn’t help but chuckle and finally stood up, his expression returning to normal.

"No need to explain yourself. That technique was for you, so there is nothing wrong if you took a look at it."

Although William said so, Liam still felt awkward and changed the subject.

"By the way, weren’t you going somewhere? Why are you still here?"

"I still need to inform Professor Norman that I won’t be attending the class..." William said and turned around to walk towards their classroom. "Let’s go. I will go with you to class first before leaving."

"OH!" Liam quickly followed after William and chatted as they walked.

’Eva, the future you see isn’t fixed, right?’

’Yes,’ Eva responded. ’As I told you before, whether you want to complete a task depends on you. You have to make your own choices, and those choices will be what determines your future.’

’As long as it’s not fixed, it’s fine...’ William took a deep breath, and a cold gleam flashed in his eyes.

’I have been trying to change the future since the moment I came back to the past. It doesn’t matter if I add another thing into it. As long as it’s not fixed...’

William glanced at Liam from the corner of his eyes.

’I will destroy every single damn future that wants to take away my friends and family from me.’

Soon, they reached the classroom.

And as soon as William entered the class, he sensed something, and a possibility suddenly came to his mind.
