Whatever the change was, it appeared to be happening everywhere.

A few hours later, another story emerged.

This one came from a remote monastery.

Unlike the polished footage broadcast by international news networks, the video was clearly recorded on an old mobile phone. The image was slightly unstable, the sound quality was poor, and the person holding the camera occasionally shifted their position.

The monastery itself appeared ancient, surrounded by mountains and dense forests. In the center of the recording sat an elderly monk beneath the pale morning sky.

His back was perfectly straight despite his age. His hands rested naturally upon his knees, and his breathing was slow and deliberate. His expression was unusually peaceful, yet there was something strange in his eyes.

They were wet with tears.

The younger monk holding the phone seemed uncertain about what he was witnessing.

"Master, what happened?" he asked.

The elderly monk did not respond immediately.

He simply continued breathing. Slowly. Deeply.

Each breath seemed to draw his attention farther away from the world around him. After several moments, his chest rose gently, and he released a long breath through his nose.

Then, in a voice so quiet that the younger monk had to lean closer, he whispered, "The breath of heaven has returned."

The younger monk stared at him in confusion.

"What do you mean?"

The elder monk lifted his head and looked toward the distant horizon.

For several seconds, he remained silent.

Then tears began rolling down his cheeks.

"It is finally returning."

The video ended there.

At first, millions of people who watched the footage laughed.

Some dismissed the old monk as a religious fanatic. Others accused the monastery of attempting to attract attention. A few commentators suggested that the entire thing was nothing more than an elaborate publicity stunt designed to gain followers.

For most people, it was simply another strange video appearing during an increasingly strange week.

But not everyone laughed.

There were people scattered across the world who understood the significance of those words.

Some belonged to ancient martial arts families that had preserved traditions for generations. Others came from secluded religious orders, forgotten sects, or organizations that possessed knowledge ordinary society had long dismissed as superstition.

They had heard the old stories.

Stories of an ancient age when the world was filled with a mysterious energy known as Qi. Stories of humans who could strengthen their bodies beyond ordinary limits, sense energies invisible to normal people, manipulate forces that modern science could not explain, and walk paths that supposedly allowed them to transcend the limitations of mortality itself.

For centuries, such stories had been treated as myths.

The modern world had dismissed them as legends created by people who lacked an understanding of science.

But when those people watched the old monk’s tearful face and heard him speak of the returning breath of heaven, they did not see a madman.

They saw a warning.

Because they knew that Qi had not disappeared forever.

It had merely become too thin for ordinary humans to perceive.

And now, after centuries of silence, it was beginning to return.

The changes humanity had witnessed that morning were only the earliest consequences.

The athletes were not suddenly becoming better because of superior training.

The patients were not healing faster because of statistical coincidence.

The human body was responding to something that had begun spreading throughout the atmosphere, the earth, and every living organism on the planet.

Qi was returning to the world.

And humanity had absolutely no idea what was coming next.

...

Anyways, the animals noticed the change before humanity did.

Long before scientists could identify anything unusual in the atmosphere, long before governments began issuing cautious statements, and long before ordinary people started filling the internet with increasingly wild theories, animals across the world had already begun reacting to something they could neither explain nor understand in human terms.

The first reports came from the oceans.

Whales began appearing along coastlines in formations that marine biologists struggled to explain. Several pods that had historically followed completely separate migratory routes suddenly began altering their patterns, gradually converging toward the same general region. Their movements did not appear to correspond with changes in water temperature, food availability, ocean currents, or any of the other environmental factors researchers normally used to explain changes in whale migration.

The behavior became even stranger when researchers discovered that some of the whales appeared to be traveling far beyond their usual routes. They moved steadily toward particular areas, sometimes changing direction at almost the same time despite being hundreds of kilometers apart.

At first, marine researchers assumed they were witnessing an unusual but natural migration event. Nature was full of mysteries, and animals occasionally behaved in ways that scientists could not immediately explain. However, as more pods began displaying the same behavior, that explanation became increasingly difficult to maintain.

The whales were not simply wandering.

They were going somewhere.

Nobody knew why.

Then the wolves began moving.

Across several mountainous regions, entire packs abandoned territories that they had occupied for generations. Some had established hunting grounds, familiar dens, and well-defined boundaries with neighboring packs. Under normal circumstances, abandoning such territory would have been extremely dangerous.

Yet the wolves left anyway.

They moved toward the mountains.

What disturbed wildlife researchers was not merely the migration itself, but its direction. Packs separated by enormous distances were moving toward similar regions. They were not fleeing from predators, human settlements, fires, or any obvious environmental threat. They simply seemed determined to reach higher ground.

The behavior repeated across multiple countries.

Researchers tracked several packs as they traveled through forests, valleys, and areas they had rarely entered before. Some crossed difficult terrain that would normally have required them to expend valuable energy. Others passed through territories belonging to rival packs without engaging in the aggressive confrontations that would ordinarily be expected.

They kept moving.

Higher.

Farther.

Deeper into regions where humans rarely ventured.

Scientists attempted to find a common explanation. Perhaps the wolves were responding to changes in atmospheric pressure. Perhaps underground activity had disturbed them. Perhaps they were detecting changes in Earth’s magnetic field or some environmental phenomenon that human instruments had yet to identify.

Every hypothesis seemed plausible for a few hours.

Then another phenomenon appeared.

At a wildlife reserve thousands of kilometers away, dozens of birds suddenly abandoned their normal behavior.

They gathered together in an open area and turned their attention toward a particular section of the sky.

There appeared to be nothing there.

The sky was clear.

There were no aircraft.

No storm.

No visible predator.

No obvious source of disturbance.

Yet the birds remained fixed on that empty space.

For hours, they barely moved.

They did not scatter when vehicles passed nearby. They did not resume feeding. They did not behave as though they were searching for prey or avoiding a threat. Instead, they simply stood there, their heads tilted upward, their eyes fixed on something that human observers could not see.
