Chapter 1339: Chapter 1339: Babysitting

Everyone nodded.

"If you all admit you’re beaten, what are you still sitting there for?" Kai Bright’s suddenly stern voice sent them shooting to their feet.

Things were going smoothly on Sophie Wilson’s end. In the monitoring room, Frederick Cole let out a light sigh—having Sophie come over really had been the right call.

"Sophie..." Frederick had just said two syllables when he turned his head and saw Charles Seymour staring at the screen with intense focus, his thin lips pressed into a faint upward curve, eyes bright—obviously completely absorbed in watching Sophie on the monitor.

Frederick glanced at the utterly absorbed Charles, then at little Bao’er sitting in his lap, tiny mouth half open in surprise, and for no reason a strange thought popped into his head.

Charles bringing the kid over to him—could it be just so he’d babysit?

"Sophie’s side is all wrapped up. When are you heading out?" Frederick asked.

"Tomorrow." Charles turned his head; Sophie’s figure was no longer on the screen, so there was no point in watching any further.

"Tomorrow?" Frederick couldn’t help laughing. "You worried Sophie won’t be able to handle that bunch of punks?"

"You’re seriously underestimating Sophie. You still don’t know what she can do?"

Frederick was genuinely amused; he kept feeling that Charles was letting his concern cloud his judgment.

"If I don’t come over, I won’t get to see Sophie looking this badass." Charles said it with deep laughter in his eyes.

Frederick was speechless for a moment. Why did talking to Charles always make his chest feel tight?

"Bao’er." Charles held out his hand.

Bao’er immediately and obediently raised his little arms so Charles could scoop him over.

Charles left the monitoring room with Bao’er in his arms, leaving Frederick alone in his chair, questioning his life choices.

Had he just spent half the day here acting as a babysitter?

This Charles... still as infuriating as ever; made people want to punch him.

After Sophie Wilson had spent the whole day training, that evening she happily trailed after Charles and Bao’er to an open area for a little makeshift barbecue.

It was his first time grilling like this, and Bao’er was over the moon, seriously clutching the skewer in his hand, staring intently at the meat he was roasting.

He was going to grill it well and give it to Mommy.

Over here this little family was cheerfully eating and playing, while in the mess hall over there, more than a hundred people’s hands were shaking so hard they could barely hold their chopsticks.

This was the aftereffect of overexertion.

In the end, they really had no choice—they ditched the chopsticks and switched to spoons; otherwise they couldn’t even get the food to their mouths.

The only one who could still use chopsticks was Kai Bright.

Kellan Blake had long since given up pretending for the sake of pride.

What the hell is pride worth?

After a whole day of training, if he didn’t sit down and have a proper meal now, he might just starve to death.

Kai Bright was better than him—he’d already accepted that fact long ago. He just hadn’t expected Sophie Wilson to be so much stronger than Kai.

How come, with the exact same training, Sophie could do things so easily that they just couldn’t manage?

And it wasn’t just Kellan—after this entire day, everyone else had also fallen into some serious self-doubt.

Frederick Cole walked into the mess hall and looked at the crowd silently eating, feeling a bit amused.

If they weren’t all rushing to eat, when was the mess hall ever this quiet? Looked like this day had really run those little punks ragged.

He checked his watch. These guys were eating much slower than usual.

Still, he could understand—after being put through the wringer like that, finishing a meal smoothly was definitely harder than on normal days.
