Wu Yun chuckled, unfastened the necklace’s clasp, and moved behind Bai Yue. He skillfully fastened it around her neck.

"What do you think? Do you like it?"

Bai Yue skipped happily to the full-length mirror in the walk-in closet. After turning this way and that to admire it, she said, "It’s beautiful, but I don’t think the style really goes with what I’m wearing!"

Wu Yun glanced at Bai Yue’s t-shirt and casual pants, then pulled a white, floral-print dress from the closet. "Try this on!"

Bai Yue took the dress, held it up to her body, and said, "It’s all right, I guess!"

After trying on a few more outfits, Bai Yue decided a solid color would be more suitable. She smiled, hung the dress on a rack, and said, "Ah Yun! Thank you! I love it!"

With that, she wrapped her arms around Wu Yun’s neck and leaned in for a kiss.

Wu Yun covered her mouth with his hand and said, "Hold on! I found the perfect outfit for you!"

Bai Yue pouted. "What outfit!?"

A mischievous grin spread across Wu Yun’s face as he pulled a pair of black stockings and a noticeably shrunken uniform from behind his back.

"Gah! You’re such a pervert!"

"Hahaha! Ow! Let’s shower first! I’m filthy!"

...

「The next afternoon.」

"Ah Yun! I told you not to bring so many gifts! My parents might not accept them. They’re all too valuable!"

Bai Yue looked at the small shopping bags in the back seat. One box was printed with a Maltese cross logo, and below it, a string of small English letters read "Vacheron Constantin."

Bai Yue recognized the name immediately. Vacheron Constantin.

Bai Yue saw the six-figure number on the receipt. "352,000! It’s so expensive! My dad works at a state-owned enterprise. A gift like this could get him in trouble for violating company policy!"

Wu Yun patted Bai Yue’s shoulder. "Don’t worry! I know your dad’s salary. It’s high enough that he could theoretically afford this watch!"

"Besides, it’s perfectly normal for a son-in-law to give his father-in-law a gift!"

"But—" Bai Yue tried to say more, but Wu Yun cut her off. "No buts. It’ll be fine! Just trust me!"

Bai Yue knew Wu Yun’s personality, so she dropped the subject. ’Since Dad is getting such an expensive gift,’ she thought, ’the Jade Bracelet for Mom must be worth about the same.’

Not only that, but her uncle, aunt, and Bai Jun would also be receiving presents when they met tonight, though they wouldn’t be quite as valuable as her parents’ gifts.

"All right! But don’t blame me when they refuse it later!"

During the May Day holiday, Capital City was flooded with tourists from all over the country, making the already congested traffic even more unbearable.

After a drive that took over ten minutes longer than usual, the car finally pulled up to the entrance of the Quanjude nearest Bai Yue’s family home.

"Let’s go." Wu Yun put on a baseball cap before pushing the door open and stepping out.

Carrying the gifts, Wu Yun followed Bai Yue. A server quickly led them to a modestly sized private room.

Bai Yue pushed the door open and went in first. Wu Yun paused at the entrance, took a deep breath, and then followed her inside with a smile on his face.

Inside, five people were already seated around a large, round table. One of them was Bai Yang, a man Wu Yun had met on a few occasions.

Bai Yang shot Wu Yun a complicated look as he and Qiu Yue rose to their feet.

Qiu Yue greeted them warmly. "Come in, come in! Wu Yun, please, have a seat!"

"Junjun! Give the menu to Wu Yun so he can see what he’d like to eat!"

As Wu Yun had prompted her, Bai Yue smiled and began, "Ah Yun, let me introduce everyone first!"

When it was his turn, Bai Yang chuckled. "You’ve really kept me in the dark, President Wu!"

Wu Yun gave an awkward laugh. "Please, don’t say that! Uncle Bai, just call me by my name. Or Xiaowu is fine too!"

Bai Yue smiled. "Oh, Dad! It all happened so suddenly! Back then, Ah Yun had no idea his project would involve you!"

Bai Yue then changed the subject, turning to the server. "Excuse me! We’d like a whole roasted duck..."

After they finished ordering, Bai Yue handed the menu back to the server and announced, "Ah Yun brought you all gifts! Just a few little things. I hope you like them!"

Wu Yun quickly stood up and placed several shopping bags on the table. "Uncle Bai, Auntie, I actually got your gifts a while ago. I was planning to visit after the Lunar New Year, but I got too busy and even had to go abroad."

Bai Yue picked up with their rehearsed lines. "Mom, Dad, Wu Yun isn’t kidding. You can tell by the date on the receipts! He bought them before the Lunar New Year. I told him not to buy anything so expensive, but he just wouldn’t listen!"

As she spoke, Bai Yue opened the boxes containing the watch and the bracelet and placed them in front of her parents.

She then passed out the gifts Wu Yun had bought for her uncle’s family the day before. "Uncle! Auntie! Please don’t say no. This is just a small token from Ah Yun! They weren’t expensive at all!"

Seeing the designer bags, a tablet, and a phone, Bai Shu’s family politely protested for a moment before accepting them.

"What? This jadeite bracelet cost two hundred and ninety-eight thousand!" Qiu Yue gasped, spotting the receipt and certificate of authenticity tucked inside the box.

Bai Yang’s heart skipped a beat. He quickly glanced at the receipt at the bottom of his box—it was over three hundred thousand. For such an unassuming-looking watch, no less. The brand looked familiar, but he couldn’t quite place the name.

"We... Wu Yun, your uncle and I can’t possibly accept these!" Qiu Yue said, looking at him.

Wu Yun and Bai Yue exchanged a look. Wu Yun’s expression seemed to say, ’See? I told you.’ He then spoke up, "Don’t worry, Auntie. This won’t get you in any trouble. It’s a gift from family. What does it matter to his company if his own family has money?"

Bai Yue chimed in from the side. "Oh, Mom, just take it! Ah Yun has already given me so much more! Do you really think this is a big deal to him?"

At her words, everyone turned to stare at Bai Yue. Realizing she’d let something slip, she looked toward Wu Yun for help.

Wu Yun just smiled. "It’s fine. We’re all here together now, so there’s no harm in saying it."

Just then, a server knocked and entered, placing their ordered dishes on the table one by one.

"Please, enjoy your meal!"

Once the server had left, Bai Yue told them everything—about the apartment Wu Yun had given her at Hesheng Xiao Yun Road No. 8 and the Bentley Continental GT he had bought for her.

When they heard that the sprawling flat at Hesheng Xiao Yun Road No. 8 had cost 65 million, Bai Jun’s chopsticks fell from his hand and clattered to the floor, though he was too stunned to notice.

Even without any real work experience, Bai Jun was still sensitive to numbers. Even while studying in Capital City, his monthly allowance only ranged from 1,500 to 2,500 yuan. And even then, he still had to pick up part-time jobs from time to time.

Sixty-five million yuan was enough for him to live on for more than two thousand years!

"The apartment and the car were both purchased in my name!" As Bai Yue said this, her father, Bai Yang, noticed the deep affection in her eyes as she gazed at Wu Yun.

Bai Yang sighed internally. The majority of his worries vanished. He had many questions he’d wanted to ask Wu Yun, but now he kept them to himself.

Of one thing, however, Bai Yang was certain: Wu Yun’s feelings for Bai Yue were sincere.

"Let’s eat the roast duck! It’s not as good when it gets cold!" Bai Yang urged, tacitly dropping the subject of the gifts.

For a time, the only sound in the room was that of people eating.

Qiu Yue couldn’t bear the awkward silence. She forced a smile and said, "Wu Yun! Eat up! Don’t be a stranger!"

Wu Yun just smiled back. "Auntie, don’t worry about me. I have a healthy appetite!"

Seeing that Bai Yang remained silent, Qiu Yue pressed on. "Oh, by the way, Wu Yun, we still don’t know where you’re from."

In the past, Bai Yue would have definitely stopped her mother from asking such questions.

In the many years before his rebirth, Wu Yun had come to terms with being an orphan. And now that he had recently met his birth mother, things felt different. She was still a stranger, but the feeling had changed.

"Auntie, I grew up in Jingyang. I always thought I was an abandoned orphan, but I was lucky enough to be adopted by my grandparents."

Hearing this, Qiu Yue immediately replied, "Oh, I’m so sorry. I had no idea about your situation. This girl, Yueyue, never told us any of this!"

Bai Yue pouted. "Mom, let him finish! In a couple of days, Ah Yun is taking me to meet his birth mother and his grandfathers!"
