Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space
Chapter 1543: Coming Out of Retirement
The days passed like this. On Saturday noon, everyone came over. Now Jiang Xinyu no longer needed to cook herself.
Shang Zhenkun liked this day. It was lively.
Everyone was talking about their lives at school. Red Army and the other three were staying in dorms. This allowed them to integrate better into the group.
Wei Kaiyun listened to their chatter with a smile. Such days truly made one lazy.
Before finishing the meal, there was a knock on the door.
It was Chaoyang who opened the door, and behind him followed two formally dressed individuals.
Old Yang and Wei Kaiyun both stood up.
“Hello, here we meet again.”
“Little Guo, Little Zhu, have a seat and join us for some food.”
Wei Kaiyun said with a smile, but Jiang Xinyu knew he wasn’t happy.
“Brother Wei, we’ve already eaten, we’ll wait for you outside.”
“No need to be formal, have a seat, we’re almost finished.”
“Brother Wei, we need a quiet environment to talk with you and Brother Yang.”
Wei Kaiyun nodded. “Then let’s go somewhere else.”
He led the two into the living room and poured water for them.
“Brother Wei, you’re still as composed as ever.”
Wei Kaiyun just smiled, while Old Yang lazily sat at one side.
They knew their visit surely didn’t mean anything good. Before they were just subordinates, but things were different now.
“Brother Wei, Brother Yang. The leader wants you to go over for a meeting.”
“Now?”
“Tomorrow morning at eight. I’ll wait for you at the door. You still can’t access the place directly.” Zhu Jianchun said with a smile.
Wei Kaiyun nodded understandingly. “Alright, we’ll be at the door promptly at eight tomorrow.”
“Brother Wei, you’ve had quite the life these years.” Guo Sanyuan said with a smile.
Wei Kaiyun nodded. “Not bad. I’ve had quite the carefree life outside for so many years.”
“Brother Wei, your life seems even better than the leader’s.”
Old Yang snorted, changing the atmosphere immediately.
Wei Kaiyun’s face turned expressionless too.
“The leader’s affairs aren’t for us to discuss. He’ll let us know what we need to know.”
Guo Sanyuan smiled. “Brother Wei, we’ve done our job notifying you, so now we’ll take leave.”
“Take care.”
Wei Kaiyun escorted the two out as Old Yang didn’t make a move.
They then entered Wei Kaiyun’s study.
“Does the leader want us to make a comeback?”
Wei Kaiyun nodded. “That seems to be the case.”
They both felt uneasy; having grown accustomed to a peaceful and happy life, neither wanted to go back out.
However, it wasn’t their decision to make.
“I suspect you’ll stay here, but it’ll be difficult for me.”
It meant having to leave his wife and children. “If I do leave, I’ll have them all come to your place.”
“No problem, rest easy. The leader’s plans aren’t clear yet. Perhaps we won’t be heavily utilized and can still enjoy a leisurely life.”
Old Yang said nothing. The possibility Wei Kaiyun proposed was almost nonexistent.
They were not the leader’s earliest protégés nor the most relied upon, but they were protected by the leader.
Therefore, they could only continue being by the leader’s side.
At this moment, Jiang Xinyu entered. “You haven’t finished eating, would you like to go have some more?”
Both shook their heads, they weren’t in the mood anymore.
Jiang Xinyu could roughly guess they were likely being sent out.
The children were grown, and since those two came, their mood hadn’t been great, but no one disturbed them.
After lunch, everyone went off to attend to their own affairs. Old Yang left with his wife and children. Wei Kaiyun and Jiang Xinyu headed to the factory. The plastic bag factory was now in production.
The demand was truly overwhelming; after all, it was very convenient.
They were working overtime to produce and orders were already lined up for next month. Thus, the couple was very busy.
After exercising in the evening, Wei Kaiyun hugged Jiang Xinyu. “Wife, I might be very busy from now on.”
“I knew it, in fact, I’ve long prepared myself mentally for this.”
Wei Kaiyun felt deeply apologetic, once again pushing household responsibilities onto his wife.
The next day, after breakfast, Old Yang came over. The two did not ride bikes but walked over.
They arrived at the gate five minutes to eight, just on time.
Almost right away, Guo Sanyuan appeared. “Brother Wei, Brother Yang, let’s go in, the leader has some time now.”
Both nodded without speaking, following him silently.
Half an hour later, they emerged, each holding a transfer order.
Wei Kaiyun was assigned to the Ministry of Finance, while Old Yang went to the Department of Security.
Neither expected to stay in the Capital, which was good news.
Additionally, Wei Kaiyun had a secondary position, making him relatively freer than Old Yang.
Old Yang was specifically responsible for interrogations, so his work wasn’t very busy regularly.
Guo Sanyuan waited for them outside, not knowing where they were assigned, but surely they were entrusted with significant roles.
Internally, he felt very imbalanced. While accompanying the leader all along, when it came to credit, they weren’t involved.
“Congratulations Brother Wei, Brother Yang.”
Both nodded, following behind Guo Sanyuan to exit.
Returning home, they finally relaxed.
“We report for duty tomorrow. I didn’t expect I’d be able to stay here.” Having a wife and children, who would want to leave? But it was an order from above, they had no choice.
“Xiao Wei, your superior isn’t easy to deal with.” Everyone knew that the deputy would eventually become the principal.
Wei Kaiyun was indifferent. “It’s best to get along peacefully, but if issues arise, I won’t let myself be manipulated.”
Old Yang nodded. His job was quite simple for him.
He hadn’t encountered a case he couldn’t crack, so he wasn’t worried.
He stood up. “I’m heading back.”
“Will you come for dinner at my place tonight?”
Old Yang shook his head. “Not tonight. Xiao Li has school tomorrow.”
Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang left together. There was still a lot of work at the factory and Old Han needed to be contacted. But he couldn’t let everything fall on his wife. Avoiding duties wouldn’t work.
Arriving at the factory, he dialed Han Xiangjun’s number.
Half an hour later, Han arrived, and the two closed the door to discuss in the office for over an hour, finally sorting out the plans.
“You’re actually quite suited to going to work.” Han Xiangjun said.
Wei Kaiyun rolled his eyes. Though Han spoke lightly, initially there would be focus on economic matters, where would the time come from?
That evening, the family had dinner together, Wei Kaiyun didn’t avoid the issue, informing them of his new work assignment.
“Dad, will you be so busy that we might not see you often?”
Wei Kaiyun felt uncomfortable hearing his daughter ask this. He realized soon he wouldn’t have the time to focus on his family and his children’s situation. A qualified father might become unqualified. Wanting to be a good father would be difficult.
