Chapter 89 The Little Demon King and the Little Cutie

As time ticked by and evening approached, Sheng Jiaoyang grew increasingly anxious.

During dinner, she lost all interest in teasing Shen Zhining, eating a meager meal absentmindedly.

Daisy, preoccupied with her final push, paid no heed to her rival's feelings. It was Flynn who noticed, and before going to her room, she specifically reminded Shen Zhining to pay more attention to his girlfriend.

Shen Zhining nodded in agreement, then forgot about her and went upstairs.

Sheng Jiaoyang lingered in the living room for a long time until Philip stood beside her and reminded her to go upstairs to rest, at which point she reluctantly went up to the third floor.

Shen Zhining's bedroom was almost entirely devoid of color, except for black, white, and gray. The walls were white, the carpet gray, and the bed black. Sheng Jiaoyang felt her vision was being challenged the moment she entered. She disliked this somber style, but this was Shen Zhining's territory, and she couldn't change anything, no matter how much she disliked it.

The only unusual color in the room was her dressing table in the corner.

For some unknown reason, Sheng Jiaoyang couldn't help but recall how the little devil Shen had taken over her bedroom when she was a child. Her bedroom was meticulously decorated by her mother: a sky-blue ceiling adorned with little stars that glowed at night, a large pink bed where she could roll around freely, a snow-white carpet, and walls covered with photos of her at various ages… In short, the little devil Shen must have liked that style of bedroom; otherwise, why would he take over her bedroom when there were so many other rooms in the house?

Later, when the little devil could laugh normally and even wanted to tease her, he was taken away by Grandpa Shen.

"What are you doing standing there?" A voice abruptly pulled her back to reality.

Sheng Jiaoyang blinked, looking at Shen Zhining, who was wearing a black bathrobe and sitting against the headboard reading a book, and hesitantly asked, "Where do I sleep tonight?"

"Besides the bed," Shen Zhining replied coldly.

Sheng Jiaoyang looked around and found there wasn't even a sofa. She gritted her teeth and decided… to endure it. The sooner she finished her task, the sooner she could escape the shadow of the little devil Shen. Seeing Shen Zhining's seemingly incapable attitude towards love, she felt relieved and no longer worried about what he might do to her that night.

As Sheng Jiaoyang stepped into the bathroom, she heard Shen Zhining's voice behind her: "Don't use my bathtub, don't touch my things."

Who wants to use them? I'd find them dirty! Sheng Jiaoyang pouted and closed the door.

After washing up, Sheng Jiaoyang changed into a set of fairly warm pajamas, found the sheets and blankets brought up from the second floor, and made a makeshift bed in front of the French windows away from the bed. She curled up under the thin blanket, turned her back to the bed, and drifted off to sleep after a while.

Shen Zhining, on the other hand, couldn't sleep because there was someone else in the room. His mind was filled with thoughts about the past and the present. A person always needs a goal in life. After his parents passed away, his goal was to become strong enough to protect those around him from any man-made accidents. But the person he had placed in his protective circle still got into trouble. He realized that he too had limitations, which was why he had been here all this time. He couldn't bear to watch helplessly as the person he cared about was harmed.

"Brother Zhining, you have to become very strong, so that no one will dare to bully us." He still remembered a beautiful little girl rubbing her sore knee, holding back tears as she said those words to him.

That year, he and his mother were kidnapped. His father was fatally wounded when he came to rescue them and died after rescuing them. His mother couldn't bear the blow and committed suicide by overdosing on medication. Although he didn't go insane from witnessing all of this, he suffered a great mental shock and closed himself off until that little tail he had pushed and knocked down time and time again, yet who still clung to him, appeared. If it weren't for that little tail, he would still be a recluse lost in his own world.

No one would cling to him so tirelessly, again and again, even after being pushed to the ground and bruised all over, the little guy would quickly return with a sweet smile, circling around him. What impressed him most, and what made him actively try to move on from his past, was what happened after he was surrounded by other classmates who disliked him. Just

as he was numbly bracing himself for a beating, the little guy ran over and stood in front of him, only to be easily pushed and fall. Despite the pain, the little guy still ran forward to protect him, saying that no one was allowed to bully him. If the Sheng family's driver hadn't arrived, he would have been beaten.

The little guy, with tears in his eyes, pitifully said to him, "Brother Zhining, if only you were strong, if only you were strong, then no one would dare bully us."

From that moment on, everything changed…

Shen Zhining opened his eyes, staring into the void, unable to fall asleep for a long time.

Meanwhile, the other person in the same room slept soundly until dawn.

Sheng Jiaoyang was woken up by the sunlight. She squinted uncomfortably when she opened her eyes, her mind momentarily blank, unable to recall where she was. After grabbing her glasses from beside her pillow and putting them on, her heart skipped a beat; she remembered she was sleeping in Shen Zhining's room. She quickly looked towards the bed, and relieved to see no one, she got up and went to the bathroom to wash up.

While brushing her teeth, Shen Zhining walked in.

Sheng Jiaoyang's eyes widened. The young man, dressed only in athletic shorts and with his hair completely soaked with sweat, exuded an indescribable aura of masculinity. She even forgot to move her electric toothbrush, her mind racing with thoughts like, "Shen the Demon King has a pretty good physique!"

In Shen Zhining's eyes, this girl with rabbit ears on her head, wearing large black-rimmed glasses, and pouting as she stared at him was unusually naive.

"Hurry up," Shen Zhining said, preparing to leave.

"You can wash yours, I'm not going to peek," Sheng Jiaoyang said, spitting out the foam in her mouth.

Shen Zhining glanced at her, said nothing, and walked out.

While having breakfast together, Daisy noticed Shen Zhining's tired face and then saw Sheng Jiaoyang's energetic appearance. She asked, "Are you asleep?"

"Cough—" Sheng Jiaoyang, who was drinking soy milk, choked immediately upon hearing this.

Seeing her reaction, the other two elders, who had been watching them closely, were relieved. They were sure there wasn't any real surprise; that was good!

Shen Zhining's expression darkened further, ignoring Daisy's words.

"Did you sleep or not?" Daisy pressed on relentlessly.

"Of course we slept." One slept on the bed, the other on the floor. Sheng Jiaoyang wouldn't say the latter part aloud; firstly, she wanted to repay Daisy for making her choke, and secondly, she remembered her mission.

Shen Zhining glanced at her but didn't deny it.

Daisy believed her, her gaze towards Sheng Jiaoyang almost murderous.

After breakfast, Daisy stopped Sheng Jiaoyang, who was walking her dog, in the garden and bluntly asked, "How much money will it take for you to leave Ning?"

Sheng Jiaoyang's expression was remarkably calm. Before, she would have already agreed, but now it wasn't about money; her weakness was in Shen Zhining's hands, and no amount of money would help.

"He can give me any amount of money you want, but what he can give me, you can't. So why should I leave him? Am I stupid?" Sheng Jiaoyang scoffed.

That made perfect sense, and Daisy was speechless. She could only watch resentfully as Sheng Jiaoyang's figure receded into the distance. No, she couldn't let this trip be in vain!
