Chapter 2042 - 2044: Rebuffed

Chapter 2042: Chapter 2044: Rebuffed

The gatekeeper seemed moved with sympathy, looking at Xiaoxiao and Yang Ming’s patched clothes. It seemed unfortunate for such a wealthy family to fall into such plight. "Really pitiful, but there’s no need to travel so far to seek the Prime Minister. You could have gone to the magistrate of your Shanshi County."

As soon as Shanshi County’s County Magistrate was mentioned, Xiaoxiao cried even louder, "Little brother, you have no idea, that magistrate is in cahoots with the local tyrant. He’s like a predator who doesn’t leave a single bone behind, never caring for the common people, only for silver. Our family’s fortune was taken by the tyrant, where will we get silver to bribe the magistrate? That’s why we traveled thousands of miles to come here. They’ve all said Prime Minister Sima is an honest man, who can’t bear to see the people suffer, and will surely make things right for us."

Talking about Prime Minister Sima filled the gatekeeper with pride, "That’s right, our Prime Minister Sima is always fair and honest, and can’t stand such oppression of people."

Hearing this, Yang Ming and Xiaoxiao glanced at each other, and Yang Ming hurriedly spoke, "That’s why we came here. Please, if you could help us inform the Prime Minister, our whole family is counting on you."

These were the words they had planned on their way. For someone like Prime Minister Sima, people like them, small and insignificant, would never get a chance to meet him. Yang Ming’s title as a scholar was useless.

On the journey, they had heard many stories of Prime Minister Sima standing up for the people, so they hatched this plan, hoping that maybe they could meet him. The two had even donned patched clothes for the occasion.

"Sob, sob, thank you so much." Xiaoxiao wiped her tears, clung to the young man’s arm and wouldn’t let go.

The house servant sighed and said, "It’s not that I don’t want to help, but it’s an inconvenient time; our master isn’t in the residence. How about this, why don’t you try going to the residence of the Fourth Prince in the north of the city? He’s also a fair and honest man, if he hears about this, he will surely help you."

Hearing this, Yang Ming and Xiaoxiao were dumbstruck for a moment.

Are you kidding?

They’re here to see Prime Minister Sima, not the Fourth Prince. And it’s so hard to meet Prime Minister Sima, is the Fourth Prince even easier to approach?

But they were genuinely surprised to hear that the Fourth Prince also had such a good reputation, like Prime Minister Sima.

Xiaoxiao immediately asked, "Is the Prime Minister really not at home? Where has he gone? When will he return?"

"I couldn’t say, a master’s matters are not something we servants can handle. But our master often travels outside, it could be three to five days, sometimes a few months. From what I see, your family’s issues are truly unfortunate, you’d better quickly try your luck at the residence of the Fourth Prince in the north of the city."

The house servant said as he turned and went back into the courtyard, closing the door behind.

With the door shut, Xiaoxiao immediately dried her tears, "Honey, what should we do now?"

They planned so carefully, yet didn’t account for whether Prime Minister Sima would be at his residence, a real miscalculation.

Yang Ming pondered for a moment and said, "If we can’t see Prime Minister Sima, then we’ll have to see his wife."

Regarding Simaling, explaining to Prime Minister Sima’s wife would be just as effective; if she learns her daughter is not dead, she’ll surely find a way to reach him, so they don’t necessarily have to aim for Prime Minister Sima himself.
