Chapter 268: First Kill (Tower of Sun)

Jacob pulled the man out of the space. Around the battle arena, where both Zha Feng’s mirror conjuration and Jacob’s clone stood in silence, a mirror portal, broken on its sides and distorted in the middle, opened up. The real Jacob and Zha Feng immediately fell through, sending a wave of gasps through the imperceptible crowd.

The clones of both Zha Feng and Jacob instantly dissipated into thin air.

Jacob, who had his hand around Zha Feng, threw the man across the arena and stood there in place of his clone, looking at the man with a faint glint in his eyes.

“The battle has not begun yet, if it’s not fair,” Jacob said with a smug smile on his face. He watched as Zha Feng slowly stood up from his position, dusting himself off.

The man was young. Jacob knew from the beginning that the old man that was before him was merely a façade. Zha Feng wore the same robe as the man, but was younger and taller. He had a head full of glowing, floating white hair, blue eyes, and pale skin.

He looked exactly as Jacob did, handsome and muscular. They both had the same color of hair, but being in the Mirror World for so long had somewhat distorted Zha Feng’s features to the point where he barely looked human.

“Good job on finding me. In over a hundred years, no one has been able to do something of that magnitude.” Zha Feng did not look at all fazed by what had just happened. Instead, he had a listless expression plastered across his face.

“So that’s how long you have been deceiving people for? A hundred years?” Jacob asked.

“Well, a lot longer than that, but it does not matter anymore now, does it? You have severed my connection to the Mirror World. Greatly so…” Zha Feng’s eyes drifted across the room. He looked like a man who had made peace with his fate. “It feels good to be back, even if it’s only for a brief moment. I had a feeling about you… Jacob Ironfell.”

Jacob raised a brow. “How do you know my name?”

“Everyone knows your name, Jacob. You have slowly become a growing sensation in the Tower, Jacob. As you may already know, you have attracted the eyes of not just mortals, not just gods. I’m sure that even universe-level deities watch you keenly.”

‘Tell me something I don’t know.’ Jacob rolled his eyes as he mused.

…

“Krawww! Too bad, Zha Feng lost. It’s no problem, we will just find another warrior to sponsor.” The black crow shouted.

“Can’t we do something to save him? Surely, we shouldn’t just let him die like that,” the white crow said.

The birds continued chirping away as they stood firmly on Moralus’ shoulders, but the god had grown used to their incessant chatting and ignored it for the most part.

He focused his eyes on Jacob and anticipated the young man’s next move. He wanted to see if Jacob would kill the man or keep him alive. This decision would be the driving force behind whether he would decide to sponsor the young man.

…

“Why did you decide to climb the Tower?” Jacob inquired with a flat expression. The man’s answer would determine the outcome of this battle.

“It has been so long. I don’t even remember. I think I had a dream once, to change the universe, to attain the level of power required for me to actually affect causal reality, and as such, manifest a godly reign…”

The man had not even finished his sentence when he heard a piercing sound, coupled with a sharp pain going through his chest.

In less than a second, Jacob’s face was directly in front of his, and Jacob’s hand had passed cleanly through his sternum and out of his back. The boy’s fingers were dripping with crimson liquid as he pulled them out of Zha Feng’s chest.

Zha Feng’s vision was instantly blurred. He felt his heartbeat slowing down immediately as he fell to his knees. His eyes were bloodshot as he looked up at Jacob.

Holding his chest in a desperate attempt to stop the incessant pool of blood that had already stained the white floors with large blotches, he gasped.

“You have no reason. I’m not interested in your philosophies.” Jacob used his water affinity to control the blood off his hand and splash it directly onto Zha Feng’s face, leaving his hand as pristine as it was previously.

Zha Feng was unable to even utter a word as he knelt, his face getting even paler by the minute. Even his breath was ragged.

He could still see, albeit blurry, the outline of Jacob walking away from him.

This was Jacob’s first kill in the Tower. He had broken a promise he had made to himself, and it angered him. He was already tired of fighting for the day and had made up his mind to clear his head for the night and continue the next day.

…

“That’s it, Jacob! Haha, more kills! You gave me clones and you still turn me on!” Elyssara applauded loudly.

Romstad merely adjusted his glasses, smiling faintly as he looked at Jacob. “That’s your first kill, Jacob. Don’t let it be your last.” The god flashed a pair of bright, white fangs.

Moralus sat there, nearly unfazed. He was no stranger to one of his warriors getting killed, but he still hadn’t understood the mechanics behind how Jacob was able to do it, and in such a short time. He would have to have a talk with this young man and figure out how Jacob was able to disrupt and kill a Mirror World user with very little difficulty.

…

A portal opened up before the young man, and he walked through, ending up in the lobby of the Tower. The bright lights hit him, and he was a little pleased to find that he was once again surrounded by people.

Jacob was instantly met by Uga, who spoke without warning. “What an eventful battle, Jacob. Judging by the fact that you are here, I take it that you want to continue tomorrow instead?”

“Yes, Uga. For now, I would just like to retire to my room,” the young man responded in a low tone.

Uga nodded and backed away, allowing Jacob to walk into yet another portal.
