Dinner was indeed quite delicious.
Fu Mingxue thought Qin Wenhao had a real knack for cooking.
As they were finishing their meal, Fu Mingxue suddenly looked at Qin Wenhao and asked, “Everyone is gossiping that I can’t have children. What do you think about that? Do you want to have them soon, or—”
Before she could finish, Qin Wenhao cut her off.
“Having a baby is up to you. If you want one, we’ll have one. If not, we won’t. Besides, it’s not like our family is without kids. Everything depends on what you want. Don’t worry about what other people think.”
Fu Mingxue arched an eyebrow. “You really mean that? Even if I don’t plan on having one for the next few years?”
Qin Wenhao immediately replied, “Of course I mean it, honey. Do I look like the kind of person who says one thing and means another? It’s all up to you. There’s no rush to have a baby.”
‘In fact, it would be fine if we never had one.’
‘He was afraid of his wife suffering through the pain of childbirth.’
‘Of course, he would never say that out loud.’
‘What if his wife wanted to have a child of her own?’
“Alright, I get it.” Fu Mingxue had no plans to have a baby right now.
‘According to her plan… she intended to have one next year.’
…
After washing the dishes, Qin Wenhao said to Fu Mingxue, “Honey, you should get to bed early. I’m heading over to the training grounds. There’s night training tonight, so I need to go take a look.”
Fu Mingxue nodded. “Okay. Go on and do what you need to do. Don’t worry about me.”
‘She wasn’t the kind of woman who needed a man by her side at all times.’
“Okay!” Qin Wenhao headed out, closing the front door behind him.
Fu Mingxue, for her part, went to take a shower.
When Qin Wenhao returned, he saw his wife was still working on design drafts.
“Honey, it’s rare for you to get a day off. You should go to bed early. Besides, it’s not early anymore—it’s already eleven o’clock.”
‘His wife might have called it a day off, but aside from their trip into town this morning, she’d spent the rest of her time either reading or drawing. It was no different from a regular workday for her.’
“Alright,” Fu Mingxue replied.
She got up to brush her teeth and wash her face.
When she returned, she found a box of contraceptives on the nightstand.
It made her face flush unexpectedly.
Qin Wenhao noticed her gaze.
He explained, “We’d used up the last ones, so I went and got some more tonight.”
Fu Mingxue: ?…
‘Was it really necessary to say that out loud?’
Forcing an air of calm, she lifted the light blanket and got into bed.
The next moment, Qin Wenhao was pressing down on her.
“Honey… is this okay?”
Fu Mingxue: …?
‘Why was he even asking?’
The next day, Fu Mingxue woke up quite early.
She wasn’t at all surprised that the person who had been sleeping beside her was already gone.
When she got dressed and went outside, she saw Qin Wenhao hanging up laundry again.
‘Does he always do the laundry this early?’
“I think we should just buy a washing machine.”
“There’s no need. It’s just a few clothes; it doesn’t take long to wash them. Besides, washing machines are hard to find around here, and it’d be a hassle to ship one in from out of town.”
‘That was true,’ Fu Mingxue thought.
‘The town’s supply and marketing co-op certainly didn’t have any washing machines.’
‘They didn’t even have color TVs yet, only black-and-white models.’
‘You had to go to the city to buy a color TV.’
“Honey, go brush your teeth and wash up. Breakfast will be ready in a minute.”
“Alright.”
Just as Fu Mingxue was eating breakfast, a wail rose up from outside.
It was Sister-in-law Liu, crying her eyes out. She had tried to find the leadership last night, but hadn’t managed to meet with a single one.
‘Did the leaders know she was coming and deliberately avoid her?’
