Reborn in the 80s and Remarrying an Officer, Let the Ungrateful Cry!
Chapter 687: The In-laws
“We’re only here for this year. Aren’t we supposed to move back to the family quarters next year?”
The two of them had already decided to have the children start school over there.
And now she was thinking about getting a phone installed.
‘Honestly…’ She decided that the next time her daughter offered her money, she would just take it instead of refusing.
It would be better to save it for the two of them.
That way, they wouldn’t be tempted to spend it as soon as they got it.
Fu Mingxue had no response to her mother’s glare.
She quickly relented, “Okay, okay, okay, I won’t think about it anymore!”
Mrs. Fu continued to glare at her.
“You’d better not. In the future, even if we do get a phone, it’ll only be because you and Wenhao need one for work. You two are gone all year long, so what’s the point?”
“If I need to make a call, can’t I just go to the post office? And if not, I can always use the phone at the Qin family’s house.”
Fu Mingxue: …?
‘Didn’t I just mention it offhand? Why is she going on and on about it?’
“Mom, whatever you say. I’m tired, so I’m going to go take a nap.” ‘Besides, applying for a phone line through a work unit involves a very strict review process.’
‘It’s not like they’re easy to get.’
‘And the wait is incredibly long.’
The moment Mrs. Fu heard her daughter was tired, she immediately dropped the subject of the telephone.
She said quickly, “If you’re tired, then go get some rest. I’ll wake you up for dinner. As for the Qin family—you can just go tomorrow.”
Mrs. Fu had originally wanted her daughter to visit the Qin family in a bit.
After all, now that she was back, how could she not visit her in-laws?
“Okay.” Fu Mingxue turned to go to her room.
The two children had already taken their gifts and run off to play long ago.

However, Fu Mingxue didn’t get to sleep for long. She had only been napping for a short while when Mrs. Qin arrived.
Mrs. Fu heard a knock and went to open the door.
Mrs. Qin asked, “I heard Mingxue was back, so I came over to take a look. Is it true? Is she really home?”
Mrs. Fu immediately replied, “She is! She’s in her room catching up on sleep right now. I’ll go get her—”
As soon as Mrs. Qin heard her daughter-in-law was sleeping, she cut her off.
“Don’t wake her. Mingxue rarely admits she’s tired. If she says she is, she must have been working for a long time and didn’t sleep or eat well on the train. She must be exhausted.”
In fact, Mrs. Fu thought the exact same thing.
After all, she knew her daughter’s personality well.
“You’ve come at the perfect time. Mingxue was planning to bring these things over to you this afternoon, but she said she was too tired and wanted to nap first. She was going to deliver them afterward and let you know she’d arrived safely.”
“Since you’re here now, you can just take these things with you when you leave. It’ll be easier if you use the tricycle.”
As she spoke, Mrs. Fu brought over the items she had already separated for them.
“Where did you get such fresh meat?”
Mrs. Qin was also very surprised to see the fresh cuts of meat.
Mrs. Fu explained at once, “Mingxue arranged for someone to deliver it. They heard she was coming back and sent it right over.”
“What a good person,” Mrs. Qin remarked, also marveling at their kindness.
‘I had no idea my daughter-in-law knew someone at the slaughterhouse.’
The two mothers chatted for a while.
They both kept their voices low, careful not to wake the napping Fu Mingxue.
Mrs. Fu loaded all the gifts for the Qin family onto the tricycle.
Mrs. Qin didn’t stay long. She rode the tricycle back to the Qin family home.
“Aunt Li, hurry and take this meat inside.”
Aunt Li hurried out.
When she saw the meat, she was just as surprised. “Where did all this meat come from? It looks like it was just butchered.”
