She knew that her mother was selfish when it came to helping their family but she never thought that Meng Yunhan would not have even the slightest understanding of the situation. Her father was in grave danger; if they do not rescue him in time, then he could even lose his life.
And yet instead of helping them take care of Han Yichen, Meng Yunhan was causing trouble everywhere. It was bad enough that she had given all the family savings to Yun Xinye but she even dared to borrow a big sum of money and then hand it all to Han Ziyan and Yun Xinye.
Earlier she did not want to cause trouble for herself, which was why she accepted the debt even though it was not her own. But seeing how her mother was acting, Han Ruochen no longer wished to be polite with her mother. She narrowed her eyes and said coldly, "If you cannot bring any money, then you write an IOU for me anyway; the debt that you owe has nothing to do with us. The money was spent on you and Ziyan; we did not get a single penny why should we pay it back?"
She did not know whether to say that her mother was smart or foolish. She knew that as long as she borrowed money from Han Yichen’s friends, she wouldn’t have to pay it back and all the money would be returned by Han Yichen but at the same time, she did not use that money on her own family and gave it all to a heartless man.
"You—how dare you talk to me like that!" Meng Yunhan was so angry that she started to tremble. She could not believe that Han Ruochen would actually ask her to return the money. She knew that she was in the wrong but at the same time she did not want to accept that she had committed any crime. But after being cornered by Han Ruochen again and again, Meng Yunhan felt like her dignity was challenged and she raised her hand to slap her.
SLAP!
The sound of the crisp slap echoed in the corridor but Han Ruochen, who was waiting for the slap to land, was stunned when she realised that the impact never landed on her. Instead, she looked at her elder brother, who had stepped in front of her to protect her.
"Mom! Have you had enough trouble!?" Han Yong raised his hand and rubbed the cheek that had been slapped. It was a good thing that he blocked the slap just now or else he was worried that his mother would have knocked Han Ruochen onto the floor just now. What kind of mother was this? She was actually hitting her children as if they were her enemies.
Meng Yunhan jumped when she heard Han Yong’s voice. She felt nervous when she saw him looking at her as if he were going to eat her, but at the same time Meng Yunhan did not feel like she had done anything wrong. "Look at her! How can she talk to me like that?"

Meng Yunhan wanted to quibble but when she saw her son, who had at some point grown tall and strong, she could not open her mouth. But she did not want to admit her mistake. So even though she felt scared, she still stiffened her neck and said, "What did I do wrong? You all are settled in one way or another. Only Ziyan’s reputation was hit hard and she could not get a decent job. I helped her find one, what is wrong with what I did? This is what I owe your late aunt. After all, she died while saving my life!"
"As for you all, you are my biological children. My family. What is wrong with helping your mother repay a debt or two? Do you really want to be unfilial for such a small thing?"

Han Ruochen curled her lips and sneered. Her mother really knew how to talk. Her expression shifted again and again before she finally spoke up angrily, "Mom, are we really your family? Why do I feel like we are tools for you to use? Whenever you have something good, you give it to Han Ziyan but when you are in trouble, you push us to take care of it for you. Is this how you treat your biological children?"
"You—"
"It doesn’t matter. All I know is that since you have tied the knot, you should be the one to untie it. If you don’t agree, then I can always tell those uncles where Ziyan works. They can ask her for money. Anyway, she is the beneficiary in this situation."
