But in the end, Gu Shuxin had underestimated Gu Hengzhi, and she had underestimated Gu Zifan as well.

Although Gu Hengzhi didn’t know that Gu Shuxin had been spreading rumors around school, he had overheard some of the whispers from the surrounding crowd.

Gu Hengzhi had a pretty good idea of what Gu Shuxin was trying to do.

In fact, it was precisely because he could guess her intentions that Gu Hengzhi was all the more disappointed in her.

He didn’t mind the Gu family supporting someone like Gu Shuxin, but he did mind her using his family—especially after he had already warned her multiple times.

"That’s not necessary—"

Feeling this disappointed, Gu Hengzhi was naturally not going to accept Gu Shuxin’s invitation. In fact, starting today, his attitude toward her would change drastically for the worse.

But before Gu Hengzhi could finish, Gu Zifan, who was standing beside him, reacted far more intensely.

"No, thanks! We’re waiting here for our sister. We’re not going with you!"

The fondness for Shen Nian in Gu Zifan’s voice was matched only by his loathing for Gu Shuxin.

"Hengzhi..."

Gu Shuxin’s face instantly went pale. ’I can’t believe Gu Hengzhi would be so merciless! And Gu Zifan... how can he call Shen Nian "sister" over and over, yet treat me like this!’

Gu Shuxin wanted to plead her case with Gu Hengzhi one more time. However, whether it was fate conspiring against her or something else, she had barely opened her mouth before she was interrupted.

"Mr. Gu! I never expected you to visit our university. Your presence truly brings light to our humble institution!"

A well-dressed, middle-aged man hurried over to Gu Hengzhi, followed by several other people.

The surrounding crowd quickly recognized the middle-aged man and the people following him.

"The president! Isn’t that our president?"

"It really is the president! And the people behind him... they look like the senior administrators of the university!"

"Who on earth is this guy? To make even our usually stoic president act so respectfully?"

"You must be new here. Based on how things have unfolded, this Mr. Gu has to be the young master of the Gu family. No doubt about it!"

"The young master of the Gu family? You don’t mean *the* Gu family, do you?"

"What other Gu family could it be!"

"Hey, isn’t that the new campus belle, Gu Shuxin? Weren’t there rumors that she was the young miss of the Gu family?"

"Ha! ’Young miss of the Gu family’? Please. The actual young master of the Gu family won’t even give her the time of day, and the little young master obviously can’t stand her. How could that possibly be the way the real young miss of the Gu family is treated!"

"Then what was the deal with those earlier rumors?"

"You said it yourself—they were rumors. She probably started them herself. Otherwise, why hasn’t she clarified things after all this time? Tsk, tsk. She’s way too calculating."

"That’s possible? So, she was pretending to be the young miss of the Gu family? And now she’s been exposed by the real family? Wow, this is better than a movie!"

"And that’s not all. Don’t forget, the Gu family’s young master and the little young master came to our school today looking for someone! Who do you think they could be looking for?"

The people in the crowd murmured back and forth. Though their voices were low, their gossip was fervent. Even so, their eyes remained glued to the exchange between Gu Hengzhi and the president, unwilling to miss a single detail.

"President, I’m just here on a small, private matter. I didn’t mean to cause a disturbance."

Gu Hengzhi was naturally respectful toward the president of B University. However, he hadn’t come here today to make small talk with him.
