There really is a world of intrigue wherever there are people.

"Auntie isn’t afraid." Zhang Lanfang brought Yuanyuan along today too. Although the child didn’t fully understand the meaning, she could somewhat grasp it from Mo Hongying’s tone and her mother’s expressions.

"Why is our Yuanyuan so cute?" The little girl had a fair complexion with Zhang Lanfang’s big eyes, very pretty.

Gu Lingling pinched her round cheeks, "If only I could have a daughter like this, that would be wonderful."

Zhang Lanfang smiled, "Yes, Yuanyuan is the most precious treasure in my world."

She came to the army because her mother-in-law favored boys over girls.

She could tolerate being treated poorly, but she couldn’t stand her mother-in-law always disliking Yuanyuan without any hesitation.

When Yuanyuan first arrived, she was very shy, over two years old and still not speaking. It took Zhang Lanfang a long time to guide her properly.

Fortunately, Yuanyuan’s father, Wang Peijun, was supportive of them, and he resisted family pressure by not having another child in the past two years.

They feared having another child would reduce the attention given to Yuanyuan.

As for giving Yuanyuan a little brother or sister, they’ll wait until Yuanyuan grows older.

While chatting, they heard a knock on the door. Gu Lingling opened it and saw Fan Cuiling standing at the door, carrying lots of food.

"My uncle brought it back for me on a business trip." Fan Cuiling squinted and smiled, "I brought some for you."

She really likes Gu Lingling.

Originally, the food her uncle brought was her favorite, and she usually wouldn’t share it with anyone other than her uncle. But this time was different; she specifically wanted to share it with Gu Lingling.

"I heard you were choreographing a dance?" Fan Cuiling took out food to share with everyone and gave Yuanyuan a piece of chocolate, then asked Gu Lingling, "Can I join?"

She loves dancing, practicing secretly at home when she’s alone.

She’s too shy though, and being young, she’s never interacted with those military wives, so she kept it to herself.

This time, upon hearing that Gu Lingling was choreographing a dance, her restless heart was even more excited.

She wants to dance.

But there’s no way to say this to her uncle.

The main problem is she has big feet. Though she’s only eighteen, her feet already wear size 39 shoes.

Her uncle joked the other day, saying if she grows any bigger, it would be hard to find shoes.

So, she always wears slightly smaller shoes, hoping her feet won’t grow as fast.

"Can I?" Fan Cuiling looked at Gu Lingling hopefully, "You can put me at the back, in a not-so-obvious spot."

She just wants to perform on stage.

"Of course." Gu Lingling said, "But I’ll have to see your capabilities and then think about what kind of dance I can choreograph."

"I’m quite flexible." Fan Cuiling said, staring at Gu Lingling without blinking, "How about I perform for you?"

"Sure, sure." Mo Hongying clapped and said, "I never realized Little Cui could dance."

Fan Cuiling attended only elementary school back home, and after her mother passed away, her stepmother used the excuse of no money to stop her schooling.

No school, no problem; she didn’t like studying anyway.

When Political Commissar Liang brought her over to continue school, Fan Cuiling refused.

She did try, but she was never good at studying, and hadn’t touched books in years, so all knowledge was forgotten.

To have her, at her age, start elementary school with a bunch of little children, she wouldn’t agree to it.

So, Political Commissar Liang found her a position as a waiter in a certain place.

Of course, to become a waiter here requires connections. By next year, she should be able to sign up for the army.
