Chapter 633 - 629: Everyone Listen to Me

"Cecilia, you..."

Cecilia said gently, "You’re sick right now, and the Cantonese BBQ Shop is closed. You can’t let this dead-end situation ruin your life, can you?"

"I don’t need to worry about Sarah and Ronald for now, but you and Uncle have to listen to me this time."

Her tone was soft, but it carried an undeniable force that brooked no refusal.

Yvonne Sterling looked down and thought for a moment. She and Brendan Harris truly were at the end of their rope. Wrangling with the developer was exhausting; they could just drag things out until you were completely worn down. It was a drain on their time, energy, and spirit.

What could ordinary people like them do? It was just a desperate, last-ditch effort.

Now, they couldn’t even get a meeting with anyone. And even if they did, what could they really accomplish?

"Alright, your aunt will listen to you." Yvonne Sterling finally nodded. She had truly reached a point of complete mental and physical exhaustion.

「The next morning」

Cecilia Sterling woke up in Sarah Harris’s room. The room was small but had been tidied up immaculately by her aunt. When Cecilia was little, she often squeezed into this bed with her cousin, so she didn’t feel out of place and slept very well.

"You’re up, Cecilia."

In the living room, steamed buns and congee were already set on the dining table. Yvonne Sterling beckoned Cecilia to sit down. "Your aunt knows you love white cut chicken. I’ll go buy some for you at noon."

"Okay. You’re the best, Auntie." Cecilia hugged her aunt. Noticing it was just the two of them at home, she couldn’t help but ask, "Where are Ronald and Uncle?"

"Ronald went back to school; he has a physical fitness test this morning. Your uncle went out. He’ll be back later."

Cecilia blurted out instinctively, "Did he go again?"

"No," Yvonne Sterling explained quickly. "There was still some equipment and tools left at the shop. Your uncle sold them and went to deliver the items."

Knowing what Cecilia was worried about, Yvonne Sterling reassured her, "Don’t worry, Cecilia. Since I promised you, we’ll stop pursuing this for now. We’ll follow your plan."

Hearing this, Cecilia finally smiled with satisfaction. "That’s right. Don’t worry, Auntie. You and Uncle worked hard for half your lives to save up this money. I’ll do my best to get it back for you."

Just then, a video call came in from Emeric Grant.

Cecilia didn’t shy away and answered it immediately. On the other end of the video, Emeric Grant seemed to have just changed into his white coat, ready for his rounds. His previously expressionless face broke into a smile the moment he saw Cecilia.

"You’re up?"

Yvonne Sterling leaned over curiously. Cecilia nodded, then turned to introduce him to her aunt. "Auntie, this is my boyfriend, Emeric Grant. He’s a doctor."

The moment she heard he was Cecilia’s boyfriend, Yvonne Sterling’s eyes lit up. "Hello, hello."

"Hello, Auntie."

Cecilia aimed the camera at herself and looked at Emeric. "You’re about to start your rounds, right? Should we talk again during your lunch break?"

"I just wanted to see you. You left in such a hurry yesterday, I was a little worried," Emeric Grant said honestly. "But you look like you’re in a good mood, so it seems everything’s fine. That’s good."

Seeing her aunt go into the kitchen, Cecilia lowered her voice. "It’s not that everything’s fine. I just don’t know yet if the problem is big or small."

"What do you mean?"

"They found a tumor in my aunt. We just don’t have the specific results yet, and I’m scared..."

"Don’t be scared." Emeric Grant interrupted her worried thoughts with a serious tone, his voice both gentle and firm. "Don’t frighten yourself. Let’s wait until the results are out before we say anything more."

"But regardless of whether it’s benign, I suggest you bring your aunt to Lorcain for treatment. Several of the country’s most authoritative oncology hospitals and renowned specialists are in Lorcain. My grandfather is one of them. If you need it, I think he’d be very willing to help."

If it were any other matter, Cecilia naturally wouldn’t want to trouble Emeric Grant’s family.

But since this concerned her aunt’s health and condition, she couldn’t bring herself to politely decline.

"Thank you, Emeric. I’ll let you know the moment we have the results."

Emeric said gently, "Don’t be afraid. I’m here."

Hearing those words from Emeric Grant truly put Cecilia’s mind at ease.

Over the next two days, Cecilia handed over the information on the developer who had scammed her aunt and uncle to someone to investigate, and she quickly received feedback.

The developer’s move was actually a common money-making trick in the real estate world: mortgage the property first, then sell it. They use the mortgage money for other businesses and investments. If they make a profit, they just have to pay back the bank on time, and there are no issues. It’s equivalent to getting something for nothing.

Because even if they lost money and couldn’t repay the bank, they still had the wronged homeowners to take the fall. The developer wouldn’t suffer any real damage, aside from a few more stinking, drawn-out lawsuits.

Cecilia carefully reviewed all the details and sat on the sofa, pondering for a long time.

She wasn’t involved in the real estate industry, and the people she knew with the biggest real estate businesses were Mr. Young and Mr. Jennings.

After a moment of hesitation, Cecilia didn’t call Mr. Young. Instead, she called Randall Jennings directly.

She remembered that her first meeting with Mr. Jennings had been in Veridia, so she guessed he must have business dealings and connections there.

Besides, she had donated ten thousand dollars to the Jandon Group’s charitable foundation, which gave her a bit more confidence in asking Mr. Jennings for a favor.

Although, she knew Mr. Jennings would help her no matter what.

As it turned out, in a stroke of coincidence, Randall Jennings was in Veridia at that very moment.

"I’ve got the general idea of your situation."

On the other end of the line, Randall Jennings sounded relaxed after hearing Cecilia’s explanation. "It’s an old trick used by unscrupulous developers, not an isolated case in the industry. But don’t you worry. This isn’t hard to handle. Wait for my call."

"Okay, thank you, Mr. Jennings." Cecilia thanked him happily. She knew calling Mr. Jennings was the right move.

She had just hung up the phone when the sound of the front door opening came from the entrance. Cecilia stood up and heard her aunt’s cheerful voice. "Cecilia, quick, look who’s here!"

Cecilia walked to the doorway and was startled to see the person behind her aunt. "What are you doing here?"

Emeric Grant stood outside, his eyes smiling as he looked at Cecilia. "I was still worried. I thought that with your aunt being sick, you might feel a bit more at ease if I were here with you."

Cecilia was filled with a deep, heartfelt emotion.

Yvonne Sterling looked at Emeric with a satisfied expression, then glanced at Cecilia. "I was just coming back and recognized him at the entrance to the complex right away. Isn’t this your boyfriend from the video call?"

’Being handsome has its advantages; it makes you unforgettable.’

Beyond her touched feelings, Cecilia was also surprised. "How did you find this place?"

"Your social media post from yesterday had the location of the residential complex tagged. I took a taxi straight here after I landed," Emeric Grant explained.

Once he was inside, Cecilia walked up and hugged him. "Thank you for coming."

At this moment, her happiness was real, her touched feelings were real, and her sense of security was even more real.

So, she didn’t want to say anything like ’You really didn’t have to come’ or ’I can handle this myself’—stubborn, mood-killing words.
