Yvonne Sterling looked at the two of them, a genuine, fond smile on her face.

’Emeric Grant seems like a reliable young man,’ she thought. ’He’s handsome and has a good profession. Only someone this outstanding is worthy of our Cecilia.’

"You two chat for a bit. I’ll go make you dinner," Yvonne Sterling said, then looked at Emeric Grant. "Emeric, it’s your first time here. Is there anything you’d like to eat? I’ll make it for you."

But before Emeric Grant could answer, Cecilia noticed the document folder in her aunt’s hand. She couldn’t make out the other words on it, but she saw the word "Hospital."

"Auntie?" Cecilia’s expression froze. Her gaze fell on the folder as she asked, "You went to the hospital? Did the results come in?"

Yvonne Sterling, snapping back to reality, nodded quickly. "Ah, yes. I went to get the results."

"Why didn’t you let me go with you?" Cecilia took a deep, unhappy breath and snatched the folder from her. "How could you go by yourself for something this important? You weren’t planning on hiding the results, were you?"

"No..." Yvonne Sterling gave a wry smile.

"You’d better not have been. Emeric is a doctor; you can’t hide it from him." Cecilia handed the test results to Emeric Grant. "Take a look. How is it?"

Emeric Grant nodded and, just like that, started reading them while standing in the doorway.

"It’s not as serious as you think. You don’t have to worry," Yvonne Sterling said, trying to comfort Cecilia.

But Cecilia had zero faith in her aunt’s reassurances right now. It wouldn’t count as "fine" until Emeric said it was fine.

"Is it okay?" Cecilia asked impatiently when she saw Emeric Grant reading intently without a word.

Emeric Grant nodded as he read. "Unilateral thyroid carcinoma. It’s the most common endocrine malignancy in the head and neck. However, most thyroid cancers have an excellent prognosis, which is why it’s sometimes called the ’lazy cancer’ or the ’lucky cancer.’"

"This type of cancer is usually asymptomatic. Most patients only discover it by chance during a routine physical."

Yvonne Sterling nodded eagerly as she listened. "That’s right. I only found out because I was feeling dizzy and short of breath from the stress of the shop loan, and Ronald took me to the hospital for a check-up."

Emeric Grant smiled slightly and looked at Cecilia. "Your aunt has the most treatable kind, unilateral thyroid cancer. It was also discovered early. With standard treatment, a clinical cure is achievable. You don’t need to worry."

"So I can relax? My aunt’s going to be okay?"

"She’ll be fine. Compared to other cancers common in women, this type is the most easily cured."

Cecilia let out a long sigh of relief, looking at her aunt with a moved expression. "That’s wonderful, Auntie."

Yvonne Sterling’s eyes reddened as she smiled. "I told you not to worry for nothing. See? The name of the disease sounds scary, but the doctor also said there’s no need to be afraid."

"So, does she need surgery?" Cecilia asked, looking at Emeric Grant.

"Of course, it still needs to be removed. But a unilateral resection doesn’t have a major impact on the body, and medical procedures are very advanced now."

The moment she heard surgery was still necessary, Cecilia immediately started making plans for her aunt. "Auntie, you and Uncle should get ready. In a couple of days, I’m taking you both to Lorcain. You have to get this treated in Lorcain."

"Oh, there’s no need for that," Yvonne Sterling refused instinctively. "They just said it’s not a serious illness. The hospitals in Veridia can treat it. Besides..."

"Auntie!" Cecilia interrupted her with a serious expression, staring straight at her.

Yvonne Sterling was cut short, remembering she had promised Cecilia she would follow her arrangements.

’Then again,’ she thought, ’the Cantonese BBQ Shop is closed, and my sister’s family moved to Lorcain a year ago, but I haven’t had a chance to visit. This could be a good opportunity.’

"Alright, I’ll go."

Only then did Cecilia’s expression soften in satisfaction. "That’s more like it. You just focus on getting better, and Uncle can focus on keeping you company. Don’t worry about the rest. Just leave it to me."

"Oh, right, Auntie, you should tell Ronald the results quickly. He was terrified. He kept crying when he called me."

That night, after the lights in the house were out, Cecilia was propped up in bed, scrolling through her phone by the light of her bedside lamp.

Just as she was engrossed, the bedroom door was suddenly pushed open without a knock.

Cecilia looked up instinctively and saw Emeric Grant walking in, holding a pillow.

"What are you doing?" Cecilia’s eyes widened in alarm, but she deliberately kept her voice low.

She had specifically asked her aunt to change the bedding in Ronald’s room for Emeric Grant to use. The whole point was to avoid sharing a room with him at her aunt’s house, fearing they might make some kind of noise and create an awkward situation.

Emeric Grant simply looked at Cecilia with bright, shining eyes, and then, to her astonishment, he got into her bed.

"Scoot over," Emeric Grant said. He slipped one arm under Cecilia’s legs and the other behind her shoulders, lifting her into a princess carry with a single, fluid motion.

After lifting her, he gently set her down on the inner side of the bed.

Cecilia: ?

Emeric Grant placed his pillow, got into bed, and then looked at Cecilia. "I want to sleep holding you."

Cecilia: ?

’Like hell I believe you!’

"My aunt and uncle are right next door. Don’t mess around. Go back to your room," Cecilia said, pushing at him.

But with a sweep of his large hand, Emeric Grant pulled Cecilia into his arms. "I promise I’ll behave. I’ll just hold you. Kisses at most. Nothing else."

"That’s still a no. What good is your promise?" Cecilia shook her head, looking resistant. "Go back, go back. If you want, we can get a hotel room tomorrow."

"What? You don’t trust me?"

Cecilia looked at Emeric Grant. With only the bedside lamp illuminating the room, the warm, yellow light made his face almost unreasonably handsome.

With a dead-serious expression and an even more serious tone, she said, "It’s not that I don’t trust you. I don’t trust myself!"

Emeric Grant was taken aback for a moment, then he gave a doting smile. "Can’t control yourself when you see me?"

Cecilia slapped him on the chest in annoyance.

"HISS—"

Emeric Grant sucked in a sharp breath, grabbing Cecilia’s hand. "Gently."

"Go back to sleep in your room." Cecilia pushed Emeric Grant lightly, her tone softening as she spoke gently. "I know you want to, but there’s no rush. It’s your first time, and I don’t want it to happen in a tense environment like this."

Emeric Grant understood what Cecilia meant and nodded gently.

He turned slightly to his side and cupped Cecilia’s face. "This is allowed, right?"

Before Cecilia could react, he leaned down and kissed her.

Cecilia gently closed her eyes. Emeric Grant’s kiss was soft and lingering, as intoxicating as a cloud. Her hand naturally slid down his waist and, just as she’d feared, she lost control and let it venture into the forbidden zone.

But just a touch of Emeric’s "strength" was enough to startle her into snatching her hand back.

Feeling Cecilia’s reaction, Emeric Grant couldn’t help but break the kiss. He rested his forehead against her head and chuckled softly. Finally, he lifted his eyes to look at her and asked, a little smugly, "Are you satisfied?"

Cecilia’s face flushed. She gave him a shove. "Get back to your room and go to sleep."
