Chapter 144: Luring the Kobold Into Ambush

Their original plan was to use him as bait. He knew the Chief changed his mind once the Chief found out he was in charge of the force. But the situation was different.

The village had a wall, a proper wall with the same height as the hobgoblin. It was not an issue for the Goblin Champion, but that would be effective against the hobgoblin and goblins. That was why he offered the original plan again.

The three Goblin Champions looked toward the Chief, wondering what this plan was about. Especially since they didn’t know anything about it. They looked offended that the Chief discussed the plan without including them.

"We plan to attack the kobold village with the remaining people in my village, so you don’t know about it." The Chief waved his hand at the three Goblin Champions.

He then looked over the kobold village, then he looked at Red, then he looked up at the three Goblin Champions. "This is the plan..."

The Chief explained the plan as if it was he who made the plan. He told the other three Goblin Champions about his fireball. They should have known since the Chief mentioned it once before.

"I also would like to go straight to the village, but a lot of our people will die. We might be able to take down this village, but we will not be able to attack the next kobold village."

That was a reasonable justification to execute just a cowardly plan. "And we don’t need to report the details on how we take the village down. No one would know but us five here!"

The other three Goblin Champions looked reluctant, but they could not really counter the plan. "Then let’s do it. Go! Lure them to us."

Red shook his head. "We need to establish an ambush spot. They will not fall to our ambush if you and the others are standing in the open like this."

Red had an area in mind, and he led them there. He found an area where the tree’s trunk was much bigger, almost twice as big as the other tree. Not just one of them, but several of them. He could hide the big army here, and he would lure the kobolds here. A little bit deeper into the jungle, but it was the right distance.

The ambush could not be too close to the village. The ambush would be found out by the kobolds in the village, and they would not fall for the ambush a second time.

Red returned to the edge of the clearing, standing on top of the tree. He was choosing his target. What was the ideal target for the provocation? He had two targets in mind: the tower or the wall, or maybe the platform behind the wall.

There was a platform behind the wall where the kobolds were on guard. Those kobolds on guard were Kobold Archers. He could see the use of the platform. The archers would mount that platform and shoot arrows from there if the village ever came under attack.

"Let’s open the wall first..."

With that in mind, he directed his right palm to the wall near the entrance. There were two kobold guards near the entrance, but he aimed slightly toward the left of that entrance.

"Let’s use five times mana..." He muttered and was about to use the skill, but a realization came to him.

"Wait... I am level 16 now, and my Magic Stat is much higher now. I should be able to stabilize six times mana. Let’s use six times mana!"

Red concentrated and pulled 180 mana, even though he was supposed to use 30 mana to activate Fireball. The flame swirled in his right palm and quickly formed a fireball that almost tripled his head.

He was right about the Fireball, with six times the mana being more stable than before. He was not going to wait until the fireball went unstable and shot it.

Swoosh!

The kobolds were hissing before he shot the fireball. The guards found him because of the fireball, but there was nothing they could do to stop his fire.

The fireball shot toward the village as the kobold guard tried to warn the others inside. But there was nothing they could do to stop the fireball as it hit the wall.

Kaboom!

The fireball detonated, engulfing the area with fire. He could see the wall was thrown by the explosion, and the kobold guard was blasted by the shock wave.

The untamed fire consumed everything around it; the wall and the platform behind the wall were blasted, sending the splinters of wood bolting like an arrow. The cracking fire then spread out like a wave, expanding its reach through the wall.

The whole village should be alerted by such a massive explosion.

Red took the next step, jumping off the tree. He stood in the open, obviously announcing himself as the attacker.

Sure enough, a swarm of kobolds came out from the village. More than forty armed kobolds came out, checking out the situation. Two kobolds were looking for the guards while the rest tried to put out the fire.

That was when six Elite Kobold Fighters came out. They smashed the wall that was on fire. That was to stop the fire from spreading further, kicking the wood on fire away. That was when a few kobolds noticed Red, standing at the edge of the clearing.

The kobolds raised their weapons, screaming and rushing toward him. Meanwhile, three out of six Elite Kobold Fighters used their skill. It was the leap skill, something that he had as well.

Red didn’t wait for those three to land in front of him. He turned around and also used the same skill, Burst Leap. His legs tightened, then he kicked the ground, leaping into the air.

He landed on the protruding root and heard a loud thud. He didn’t run immediately, looking back. The plan was to lure them to the ambush spot, so they must not lose him.

He grinned at the three Elite Kobold Fighters to provoke them further.
