Chapter 145: Success Ambush

The plan worked well; six Elite Kobold Fighters were in hot pursuit behind him. More kobolds were following the Elite Kobold Fighters as well.

Red would like to slow down so the weaker kobolds could catch up, but the Elite Kobold Fighter clearly didn’t have the same thoughts. Their eyes locked on him with fury, clearly angered by what he had done to their village’s wall.

He was glad that he had taken the blessing earlier. There was no time or occasion when he could eat the food while he was leading the Chief here. The extra Dexterity truly helped him to maintain the distance.

’Six Elite Kobold Fighters are good enough for our first ambush.’

He thought to himself as he focused on making his run back to the ambush spot. To his delight, he spotted the ambush spot.

Red ran to the middle of the ambush spot, and he could see the shadow hovering over him. He could guess the Elite Kobold Fighters were using Burst Leap. Two big shadows were above him, meaning two of them were on him.

He responded with Burst Leap as well, bursting forward. He heard a loud thud when he was in the air. Those two big kobolds just landed.

"Wait! Wait for them all!"

Red screamed before his feet landed, telling them not to attack. They needed at least six Elite Kobold Fighters to surround them. He was grateful that they listened to him. As the two Elite Kobold Fighters came close to him, the remaining four Elite Kobold Fighters arrived at the ideal spot.

"NOW!"

He could speak without worry because the kobolds wouldn’t know what he screamed about. They talked in different languages, after all.

That was when the Chief jumped behind the two Elite Kobold Fighters. That shocked the kobolds because they were not expecting an ambush. The Chief’s sword pierced the back of the Elite Kobold Fighter on the right.

The sword struck from above, down to the belly. The tip of the sword came out from the lower belly of the Elite Kobold Fighter. The Chief then struck the Elite Kobold Fighter in the head, sending it down to the ground.

The second Elite Kobold Fighter turned around and faced the Chief. It was about to swing its sword, but then an arrow pierced the back of its head. The arrow came out of its left eye as it let out a scream.

That caught the Chief off guard, but he quickly recovered. He swung the axe in his left hand, cutting through the Elite Kobold Fighter’s neck.

The neck was cut open as the blood burst forth toward the Chief. Then he kicked the kobold, sending the kobold down to the ground. The two Elite Kobold Fighters were still alive, dying. The Chief finished them off with a single axe, killing the two.

While the Chief ambushed the two Elite Kobold Fighters, the remaining three Goblin Champions ambushed the four Elite Kobold Fighters. They also finished their target; four Elite Kobold Fighters were lying on the ground.

"There are more! There are forty or maybe fifty kobolds following us behind!"

The moment they heard that, the Chief and the three Goblin Champions moved away. They quickly hid, and their movement was quick despite their size. Ten seconds later, the swarm of kobolds finally caught up.

They instantly stopped running, stunned by what they stumbled into. They seemed to forget that they were out of breath from chasing after the six Elite Kobold Fighters. All they saw was their superiors lying on the ground, dead. The shock turned into terror and fear.

Their eyes shook; all of them immediately looked around, trying to find the killer. At that moment, the hobgoblins and goblins swarmed from their hiding spots.

The hobgoblins and goblins came from their front, right, and left. The kobolds realized they were being outnumbered. The half-front kobolds froze for a moment before raising their weapons, deciding to fight to the death. However, the half-behind decided to turn around and run away.

That was when Red took action, taking down the running-away kobold with his arrows. He was already above the tree, in his comfortable spot, sniping the kobold. But of course, his arrow alone was not enough to take them all down. One Goblin Champion charged in and landed in front of the running kobolds.

That was when the kobolds found out who killed the Elite Kobold Fighter. It was an ambush, so it was not even a fight. The goblin finished off the kobolds within less than five minutes.

They killed six Elite Kobold Fighters and fifty-two kobolds in an ambush. It was not an impressive feat considering their numbers, but that changed when no goblin or hobgoblin died in exchange.

The Chief and the three Goblin Champions gathered. No one spoke as they were waiting for Red, who landed next to them from above.

"How is it?" The four pairs of eyes were on Red as one of the Goblin Champions questioned him.

The question was vague. Red didn’t know what the Goblin Champion was trying to ask him. Was he asking him about the ambush? Was he asking him about the village? Was he asking about something else?

"He is asking about the village. How is the situation there? Can we attack them right now?" The second Goblin Champion elaborated on the question further.

"As I said, I didn’t know their number yet. But I believe this is just a fraction of their people. The village is bigger than the previous village, after all. But I can go check it out now."

"Go!" The Chief ordered.

Red didn’t tell them that he managed to blow the wall. Not that he didn’t want to, but they didn’t even give him the chance to speak. The urgency behind the Chief’s tone was obvious, so he left without reporting the situation.

He returned a few minutes later, bringing the good news and also the bad news.
