Chapter 154: His Battle

"Yup, that saves me ten arrows," Red muttered in delight.

There was a movement from the Elite Kobold Fighters. Five Elite Kobold Fighters ran to the right side of the battlefield. They went to the edge of the clearing, running alongside the jungle, far from the battlefield.

It was clear they didn’t run to help turn the battle. Their goal was Red, not the main battlefield. They sent five Elite Kobold Fighters for him.

The Chief noticed their movement. He thought of helping Red to fend off those five Elite Kobold Fighters, but then the remaining Elite Kobold Fighters, along with the Kobold Chief, made their move as well.

They charged forward to join the battlefield. That fireball seemed to trigger their movement. The Chief was aware that he must join the battle, as he was the only one who fought the Kobold Chief.

The Chief looked at the spear next to him. The first spear was thrown into Red the first time. He grabbed it, then looked toward the five Elite Kobold Fighters. They were quick, but not quick enough to get away from his vision.

He made a short run, then threw the spear. He didn’t even pause to direct his aim; he grabbed the spear and made a short run before throwing it.

SWOOSH!

The spear accelerated through the air and struck one of the Elite Kobold Fighters. It didn’t just hit; the spear hit the Elite Kobold Fighter’s head. That black helmet couldn’t save the elite kobold, as the head burst like a watermelon.

"You can handle the remaining four elites, right?"

Red was honestly impressed by the throw; impressive that the Chief managed to hit the Elite Kobold Fighter. Even more impressive was that he included the situations. The Chief managed to hit a moving target with that spear. The spear was too heavy and didn’t fit the criteria for spear throwing.

But then he realized that might not be the case for the Chief, who was much bigger than him. That spear was too long for him, but that was not too long for the Chief. The spear might be too heavy for him, but not for the Chief.

He snapped and was about to say that he might be able to handle the four elites, but the Chief left before he could respond. He didn’t know whether the Chief trusted him, or the Chief simply didn’t care about him. He preferred the former, though. It felt good when someone put trust in him.

Red snapped and looked toward the remaining four Elite Kobold Fighters. That one spear throw from the Chief stopped them for a moment. They became cautious for a second throw, but then they started to move again, more carefully this time, even though the Chief was not on them anymore.

He then moved, moving closer toward the Elite Kobold Fighters instead of running away. He still had his bow in his hand, positioning himself in the path of the Elite Kobold Fighter.

Red took a deep breath, put his focus on Mana Authority to draw his mana from the core. He drew around forty mana, then coated the arrow with the mana, compressing it into the arrow.

A notification rang in his head, but he ignored it for now. He put his focus on his mana control while looking for his target. The rustling noise got clearer, signifying his targets were getting closer. Then they came into his line of sight, and he released his arrow with no hesitation.

WHISH!

The arrow whistled through the air and pierced one of the Elite Kobold Fighter’s heads. The distance was too close for Red to miss. The arrow pierced through the helmet and head, coming from the back of the kobold’s head before falling to the ground with weak force.

The helmet and the arrow absorbed the force, and the Elite Kobold Fighter fell backward with a thud. That caused the three Elite Kobold Fighters to stop their track and turn around. They froze to find their friend dead with a hole in the head. That quickly alerted the three Elite Kobold Fighters as they looked up, trying to find Red.

However, Red had already moved away from his position. He kept his distance from them while maintaining a line of sight on his enemy. He was no longer holding the bow; he put it away, up on the tree close to his sword. He put them up high there, ensuring no one could find them, and didn’t forget to mark the tree this time, in case he forgot or was confused.

He held one spear in his hand, and five spears on his back. That should be enough to kill the remaining three elite kobolds. Even if it was not enough, he could retrieve his arrow. Hit and run, the usual tactic, but this time he added hide: hit, run, and hide.

The three Elite Kobold Fighters had their back on each other, scanning up the tree. It would be hard for them to find him even if he stayed at the lowest branch. The thick leaves barely had a gap to see through.

The three Elite Kobold Fighters exchanged glances. They seemed to come to an agreement on something.

Red could not tell what they were talking about. He didn’t understand their language, and on top of that, he was too far to hear what they actually said even if he understood their language.

Then he understood what they tried to do. One of the Elite Kobold Fighters used Burst Leap to reach the lowest branch. One was climbing while the other stayed down to watch out for the situation.

What they did didn’t change his plan. The spear in his head was already coated with forty mana, around that number since it was a wild guess. He was in position, made a little run before throwing the spear toward the Elite Kobold Fighter on the ground.

That was right; he aimed at the kobold on the ground instead of the one on the tree. The elite kobold on the tree had already used the Burst Leap, and the ones on the ground hadn’t used their skill. Those two were a bigger threat to him.

Swish!

Clank! Slurgh!

It was another head shot. The spear pierced through the helmet and head, and struck the ground. The spear clearly had more power and was more destructive.

That one Elite Kobold Fighter swayed for a moment before falling weakly to the ground. That stunned the two Elite Kobold Fighters. Not because their friend died, but because they could not see the spear coming.
