Chapter 155: Loot Goblin

Red was already in motion after killing the second Elite Kobold Fighter. The head was indeed the most vital part. They died in one strike even though some of them had survived previously. He just needed to ensure the spear or the arrow pierced their forehead or the back of their heads.

He was already in position, stalking the one on the tree right above, preparing his next attack. That was what he thought until the Elite Kobold Fighter jumped off the tree.

"What are they doing?" He muttered.

Instead of looking for him, that elite kobold came down. He quickly found the answer as the two remaining Elite Kobold fighters ran away. They decided to flee after they were not able to find him. It was just stupid to fight it out on his home ground.

Red hated their decision, but that was the sound decision they could make in such a short time. But didn’t mean he would allow them to leave the jungle.

He chased after them, but he still minded his movements, ensuring that he made as little sound as possible. He reminded himself that there was one Elite Kobold Fighter that hadn’t used the Burst Leap. They could turn it around the moment they found him.

The spear was already coated in mana. It was tough to maintain the mana while chasing the kobold. He needed to be careful with his steps too, considering the tree branches were moist.

He used his left hand to push the leaves, trying to maintain the line of sight on the kobold. But he didn’t get the chance until the two Elite Kobold Fighters were out of the jungle.

The two Elite Kobold Fighters didn’t stop running. They tried to regroup with the other kobolds, and Red didn’t waste his chance. He gained momentum with a short run, then he threw the spear with a calculation of the Elite Kobold Fighter’s speed.

Swish!

The spear whistled through the air. The noise created by the flying spear was louder when he threw it inside the forest. One of the Elite Kobold Fighters took the chance to look back because of the noise. Only to find a spear before his face.

There was no chance for the Kobold to dodge as the spear pierced through the helmet and went through to the other side. The Elite Kobold Fighter’s body flopped forward, rolling on the ground because of the impact.

The falling kobold helped Red to stop the second Elite Kobold Fighter. It tripped over the dead body and fell with its face first.

Meanwhile, Red was already down from the tree, chasing the Elite Kobold Fighter. A spear coated with mana was ready in his right hand. His red eyes brightened when he saw the second kobold trip over. He slowed down, and when that kobold was back on his feet, the spear was already leaving his hand.

The similar whistling noise rang in the air, and before the kobold knew what happened, the spear pierced through his head. The spear kept going into the distance as the body flopped to the ground once more.

Red glanced toward the main battlefield, the more chaotic battlefield. Bodies were piling up here and there, both goblins and kobolds. The scene was grotesque as bodies were mangled; some had their heads crushed.

He made sure that no one was close by as he rushed forward toward the two Elite Kobold Fighters’ dead bodies. He was not going to wait to get his loot. The moment he ensured it was safe around, he exchanged the two bodies for loot.

He got seven mediocre-quality cores from the two bodies. It was three Might Cores and four Magic Cores. Those cores quickly disappeared into his Storage Pouch. He still had more slots for mediocre-quality cores.

He didn’t stop there as he went for the body killed by the Chief. It was not far off, and he quickly reached the body. He got two cores, one Might Core and one Magic Core. With that, he had fifteen mediocre-quality cores in total, with seven Might Cores and eight Magic Cores.

He would use it later once he leveled up to level 17, which was close. He should get there after this battle.

Then he returned to the jungle, not to get the loot. He went back to retrieve the arrow. He was relieved to make the mark, or else it would take him longer to find the tree where his bow and sword were.

The moment he found them, he carried them out of the jungle. His bow and quiver were on his back, and his sword in his right hand. He believed it took him less than two minutes to retrieve his weapon.

This time he didn’t stay on top of the tree, trailing from the side of the battlefield. He was in the open, but the enemies were too focused on the battle to notice him.

He put the sword down and pulled his bow. His eyes moved around, trying to find his target as he nocked an arrow. Finding a target in that chaotic battle was very hard. The goblins, hobgoblins, and the kobolds were close to each other. On top of that, they were actively moving as well. Predicting their movement was almost impossible, especially when he had to factor in that they might be bumped off.

That was when his eyes moved toward the Elite Kobold Fighter and the Kobold Chief. The Chief was having a duel with the Kobold Chief. The duel took place on the other side of him, too far for his arrow. He needed to get closer to the main battlefield to reach the Kobold Chief.

That left one target, the Elite Kobold Fighter. It was easy to identify because of their armor and size. They were bigger and taller than hobgoblins, but smaller than the Goblin Champion. On top of being conspicuous, they were not really mixed in with the hobgoblins.

There were still slightly over forty Elite Kobold Fighters standing, and they were in groups of three or four, working together to fight off the hobgoblins. That made them an easier target.

He no longer hesitated, drawing his mana from his core; he directed it toward his arrow. He could not fire his arrow rapidly when he was targeting the big guy.

Red had gotten used to manipulating his mana; his increased mastery over Mana Authority helped him a lot. There was another skill that played a major part in his ability to manipulate mana. That skill was Mana Sense.
