Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 685: You Are the Most Foolish Woman I Have Ever Seen
Chapter 685: Chapter 685: You Are the Most Foolish Woman I Have Ever Seen
Annabelle Linton watched her, her expression as placid as ever. "Mrs. Yates, you know what they say: if you don’t want anyone to know, don’t do it. Did you ever stop to think there’d be consequences when you did all those things?"
Mrs. Yates trembled with rage, clutching her chest as she sat gasping for air, unable to utter a single word.
She had a long-standing heart condition and couldn’t handle intense emotional swings, or it would trigger an attack.
Annabelle Linton let out a derisive snort. She pulled a report from her bag and handed it over, her tone casual. "Oh, don’t worry, the consequences are definitely here. Congratulations, you have skin cancer. It’s terminal. They found it during your last hospital stay. You don’t have much time left. After a lifetime of glamour, I bet you never imagined you’d die in a jail cell, did you?"
BOOM—
Mrs. Yates’s eyes flew wide when she heard this.
Sk-skin cancer?
Terminal!
’Impossible, impossible! My body is perfectly fine, how could I have cancer? This bitch must be lying to me. She has to be lying!’
In reality, Annabelle Linton was lying. As the saying goes, the wicked live long, and Mrs. Yates was in robust health.
But she was going to lie anyway. So what?
’Didn’t Mrs. Yates do the same thing? After she had Leona Grant’s memory erased, didn’t she lie to everyone to take the credit?’
’An eye for an eye.’
"No, impossible... impossible! Annabelle Linton, you’re lying to me, aren’t you?"
Mrs. Yates’s face grew even paler as she stared at the doctor’s summary on the report. Shaking her head in disbelief, she said, "You’re lying to me!"
"Lie to you? About what? You’re penniless and powerless. Crushing you would be easier than crushing an ant. You really think I’d be interested in lying to you?"
"Then why tell me?! I don’t believe for a second that your motives are that simple!"
Hearing this, Annabelle Linton’s lips curled into a faint, roguish smirk. "Maybe it’s because seeing you miserable, heartbroken, and hopeless... makes me feel better."
Mrs. Yates flew into a rage at her words. With a loud CRASH, she swept everything off the table, then pointed a trembling, angry finger at the door and screamed at Annabelle Linton, "Get out! Get the hell out! The sight of you makes me sick!"
Annabelle Linton remained seated, watching her calmly, as if observing a lunatic.
"Get out! Get out!" Mrs. Yates screamed, snatching a teacup from the table and hurling it at Annabelle Linton.
Annabelle Linton dodged it with a graceful sidestep, her gaze still fixed calmly on the older woman. "You’re the most foolish woman I’ve ever met."
"WAAAH!"
Mrs. Yates froze at the words. A moment later, the emotions she had suppressed for so long came crashing down, and she covered her face and burst into tears.
’Yes... I am so, so stupid,’ she thought. ’And so, so tired.’
’Stupid, because I can’t even win against a slip of a girl young enough to be my daughter.’
’Tired, because after everything I’ve done, I haven’t been able to faze her in the slightest.’
’She’s still standing, while I... I have nothing left.’
As Mrs. Yates was sobbing, a man’s voice suddenly began to play—
"The mastermind behind the kidnapping was Vivian Yates. She had the most to gain. She’s loathed you for a long time and decided to use someone else to do her dirty work. What’s more, before the kidnapping, she contacted Wendy King and insinuated that *you* were the one scheming against us.
And before that, she contacted me personally. She gave me three million and ordered me to make sure you died, and that no one could ever find out. That’s why I wanted to kill you the moment I saw you that day. But Faye Sheffield stopped me. To avoid raising their suspicions, I agreed."
