Chapter 762: Chapter 762: Annabelle, Why Is Your Life So Bitter?

Leona Grant was finally a little more satisfied. He lowered his head and gave her another deep kiss.

Leona Grant didn’t let go until Annabelle Linton was limp in his arms.

He gazed at her intently, as if trying to permanently etch her image into his eyes. His stare made Annabelle feel uneasy.

Finally, he pressed his lips together and said, "Don’t forget to call me, and keep your phone on. I need to be able to reach you anytime, anywhere. Otherwise, I’ll rush to Serenvale to find you immediately."

Annabelle let out a small laugh. "I know."

"Remember to love me."

"Mm."

"Remember to miss me."

"Mm."

"Remember to call me."

"Mm."

Leona Grant gazed at her deeply again, not knowing what else to say. Finally, he pulled her into a tight embrace and whispered in her ear, "Annabelle Linton, I love you."

Before she could reply, he straightened her clothes, then let her go. Shoving his hands in his pockets, he said, "Okay, hurry up and get on the plane, or I might really decide not to let you go after all."

"Mm."

Annabelle pulled away from his embrace and smiled at him. "I’m off."

"Mm, go on."

Annabelle turned and started to walk away.

Her heart ached with every step, and her eyes couldn’t help but turn red.

’If only I could, I’d hide away from all of this.’

As Annabelle walked, she suddenly ran back and threw her arms around Leona Grant. Tears streamed down her face as she choked out, "Leona Grant, wait for me. I’ll definitely find a cure for you. I love you."

After speaking, she released him and resolutely walked away, her pace quickening until she was almost running.

Leona Grant watched her back disappear around the corner, his own vision blurring.

After a long moment, he finally turned and walked away.

’Annabelle Linton,’ he thought, ’no matter what happens, I just hope you can live on and be well.’

A few hours later, Annabelle Linton arrived in Serenvale.

Quentin Holland was there to pick her up himself.

Upon arrival, Annabelle didn’t even take a break. She immediately went through disinfection and a series of other preparations before joining the research.

However, during the research process, the various cellular materials and other agents in the lab seemed to interfere with the virus in her system. She began to cough frequently, and the color drained from her face.

Before, she had managed to hide her condition from Leona Grant by taking the suppressants Vivian Yates had given her. But now, with this new interference, a host of problems began to surface.

Although she wore a mask and other protective gear, a virus can find its way through anything.

Annabelle finally couldn’t bear it any longer. She stepped out of the lab, pulled off her mask, and began to cough violently.

Quentin Holland watched her with a pained expression. He crouched in front of her, unsure what to say, and simply asked in a gentle voice, "Annabelle, how are you feeling? Maybe you should take a break?"

Annabelle coughed violently several more times, clutching her chest. "I’m fine," she said weakly. "It’s just the cellular interference. I’ll be fine once I adapt. You don’t need to worry about me, Quentin. Go on, get back to work. I’ll just rest here for a bit by myself."

Quentin Holland gave her a complicated look, then turned and went back into the lab without another word.

Annabelle watched him go, feeling a sense of relief.

’At least this way,’ she thought, ’there’s a chance to save Leona Grant.’

But then her coughing grew even more severe.

Quentin Holland watched her through the glass window, each of her heart-wrenching coughs twisting a knife in his gut.

’It’s not that there isn’t an antidote,’ he thought. ’It’s just...’

Quentin Holland watched as she took out her phone and scrolled through it, a blissful smile spreading across her face. He couldn’t help but sigh.

’Annabelle, why must your life be so hard?’
