Chapter 763: Chapter 763: Guarding You, Annabelle

’Annabelle, why is your life so hard?’

’And what am I supposed to do now?’

...

「Half a month passed in a flash.」

However, despite her long, busy days spent cooped up in the research lab, she still had nothing to show for it.

Although this was to be expected, Annabelle Linton was still disappointed.

’Half a month has already gone by without the slightest bit of progress. What on earth am I supposed to do?’

Worse, because of her daily exposure, Annabelle Linton’s health was deteriorating by the day. The virus was worsening at nearly double the speed, plunging her deeper into despair.

Fortunately, while she hadn’t formulated an antidote, she had managed to develop a palliative medicine that could more or less control the coughing.

Leona Grant had been coughing constantly during their calls the past two days. Though he tried to suppress it, she could tell he was very weak.

Annabelle Linton tried the palliative medicine herself. Once she was sure it was safe and effective, she sent some to him, which finally gave her a small measure of relief.

Night had fallen, and the other researchers had all gone home, but Annabelle Linton was still running experiments.

As usual, it ended in failure. She wearily pinched the bridge of her nose and rested her head on the desk for a while before resigning herself to her feet, packing up her things, and heading back.

She dragged her exhausted body back to the hotel. After showering, Annabelle Linton had just sat down, intending to review the day’s reports, when her phone buzzed with a WeChat message.

Annabelle Linton picked up her phone. Seeing the familiar number, a tender warmth bloomed in her eyes.

Anything and everything related to him never failed to bring a little warmth to her heart.

Leona Grant had actually changed a lot.

Before, he never cared about anyone else’s feelings as long as he was happy. But he wasn’t like that anymore.

He had started to be considerate of her, to think about things from her perspective.

Take now, for example. It was late, but instead of calling her possessively, he sent a message.

For some reason, whenever she thought about him now, the fluttering warmth in her heart was always accompanied by a pang of sadness.

She gently opened the WeChat message. It was a short line: "Wife, are you asleep?"

It was followed by a little emoji with smiling, squinted eyes.

Annabelle Linton stared at their chat window.

His profile picture was a photo of the two of them, but not the kind where they had posed for it together.

The picture must have been taken in the morning. She was asleep with her eyes closed while he was kissing her lips, and he’d snapped the shot.

When she first saw he was using that photo as his profile picture, she had been utterly exasperated.

She was actually quite against using photos of herself for profile pictures—she was just used to keeping a low profile.

She had told him to change it, but Leona Grant had cheekily replied that he wanted everyone to know about their relationship.

...The kind of relationship where they slept in the same bed.

Hearing that, Annabelle Linton had been at a complete loss for words.

Then there was his screen name: "GrantingAnnabelleWarmth."

As in, "Granting you a lifetime of peace and warmth."

His status read, "Finding peace in sweetness, silence in warmth."

And if you opened his WeChat Moments, it was all things like, "Took my wife out today."

"Wife made me a meal. So touched."

"On a date with my wife."

"My dear Annabelle is unhappy today, what should I do?" and so on.

Looking at it all, Annabelle Linton’s eyes reddened for reasons she couldn’t explain.

She actually hadn’t added Leona Grant on WeChat that long ago and had only learned about all these posts recently.
