Even though they were separated by a screen and the lighting on his end wasn’t great, Annabelle Linton’s heart still skipped a beat looking at his sharp, well-defined features.

It had only been half a month, but he had lost weight. His already lean frame had gotten even thinner, and it was heartbreaking to see.

Annabelle Linton felt that if they kept talking like this, Leona Grant might ask her to come back.

’That man was always so headstrong about these things.’

Then, she smiled and said softly, "I should get some rest."

"Okay." Leona Grant knew what she was thinking and, unlike before, didn’t object.

To be honest, he was barely restraining himself from going to find her. In reality, he felt like he was going crazy from missing her.

His mind was filled with thoughts of her day and night. Every moment he couldn’t see her was pure agony.

He was genuinely afraid that if he lost control for even a second, he’d go to her or demand she come back.

"Annabelle Linton," he called out suddenly.

"Hm?"

"Bring your face closer."

’Bring my face closer?’

Annabelle Linton didn’t understand what he was planning. ’Does he have something he wants to say to me?’

’But if he wanted to tell me something, he’d ask me to bring my ear closer, not my face. Why my face?’

Annabelle Linton was even more confused, but she obediently did as she was told.

She moved her face closer to the screen. As she did, she saw his handsome face drawing nearer and nearer on her end.

Then, a soft kiss landed on her forehead. He said in a low voice, "Goodnight, Annabelle Linton. I love you."

Annabelle Linton froze for a moment, then the smile on her lips slowly widened. She said softly, "Goodnight, Leona Grant. I love you too."

Leona Grant watched her, perfectly still, until his eyes began to sting. Only then did he smile and say, "Go get some rest. Don’t wear yourself out. If you’ve lost weight when you come back, you’ll be in for it, understand?"

"I know."

"Be good, behave, and take care of yourself."

He said these words to her every day, but Annabelle Linton never grew tired of them. In fact, she was always incredibly moved. She lowered her gaze, a warm smile on her face, and said, "I know."

Leona Grant raised an eyebrow. "Nothing to say to me?"

Annabelle Linton looked up at him and said with deep affection, "I love you, honey."

"I love you too, darling."

It was Annabelle Linton who ended the call.

The moment she ended the call, she couldn’t help but fall onto the bed and start crying.

She had been crying more and more often lately. The smallest thing could set her off for ages.

She didn’t want to be this way, but sorrow was the kind of thing that would inevitably spill from your eyes, no matter how hard you tried to hold it in.

Through tear-filled eyes, Annabelle Linton looked at the photos of Leona Grant on her phone.

They were candid shots she had taken of him while he was doing various things.

He was still so handsome, so natural.

Even the simplest action, when done by him, had a unique quality to it.

Noble, elegant, handsome, serene.

As Annabelle Linton looked through the photos of him on her phone, a look of determination flashed in her eyes.

’I have to cure Leona Grant, and I have to cure myself.’

’It’s not over yet. Why should I give in to despair?!’

’I have to work hard, I have to push forward, and I absolutely must find the cure!’

With that thought, Annabelle Linton quickly got out of bed to review the day’s research materials.

As she rummaged through her folder, she realized she had forgotten to bring a crucial report.

The institute was open all night, and she had a key to the research lab that Mr. Holland had given her.

The hotel wasn’t far from the institute. The security guard knew her, so all she had to do was let him know she was going in.

With that thought, Annabelle Linton threw on a coat and headed for the institute.
