Chapter 768: Chapter 768: It Looks Like I’ll Have to Teach You a Lesson

His dispassionate tone still felt like a knife being ruthlessly twisted inside Vivian Yates.

Vivian Yates had never imagined they would ever end up like this—and all because of Annabelle Linton.

"The antidote."

Leona Grant said coldly, his gaze flat as he watched her.

Vivian Yates just stared at him, tears streaming down her face, unable to utter a single word. After a moment, she scoffed and said airily, "The antidote? What antidote? I don’t know what you’re talking about."

Leona Grant chuckled softly, his face expressionless. "I’d advise you not to exhaust what little patience I have left for you while I’m still willing to waste my time on you."

’What little patience he has left?’

Vivian Yates couldn’t help but laugh.

’If it weren’t for Annabelle Linton, he probably wouldn’t deign to waste a single second on me, would he?’

It was absurd, really. Life had a way of hitting you with reversals when you least expected it.

Before, Annabelle Linton had been the one he found most repulsive—the mere mention of her name would fill his face with disgust. Who would have thought that now, she was the one in that position?

’How fate loves to play its games.’

"What are you trying to say?"

Unwilling to look into his devoid-of-warmth eyes for another second, Vivian Yates shut her own. "I don’t have the answer you want. Stop wasting your time."

’Such pointless defiance?’

Leona Grant seemed to be laughing at her ignorance. He shook his head, speechless, and said placidly, "Vivian Yates, do you know what it is I admire most about you?"

A flicker of confusion crossed Vivian Yates’s eyes, and she looked up at him.

Leona Grant slowly got up and came to stand before her. He looked down at her pale, wretched face, his own gaze dead and cold, utterly unmoved. "What I admired most about you before," he said, "was your rationality—your ability to grasp the reality of a situation."

"I used to see you as sensible and kind, but I also knew you were a smart woman. You could always make the decision that was most advantageous to you, no matter the situation. So what about now? You know full well that being this stubborn and defiant won’t do you any good, yet you insist on continuing. Don’t tell me you thought I captured you just to scare you a little, and that I’d eventually go soft and let you go?"

Vivian Yates’s face was a blank mask, but she smiled as she asked, "So, will you?"

Leona Grant shot her a scornful look. He didn’t say a word, but his eyes were those one would use to look at an idiot.

Vivian Yates smiled again.

’He won’t,’ she knew. ’How could he possibly let me go?’

From the moment she learned he was the one who had captured her, she had given up all hope of survival.

’Leona Grant won’t spare me. He absolutely won’t.’

’Even if I tell him now, he won’t spare me. If that’s the case, I might as well just stall for time and see who comes out on top in the end—me, or that husband and wife.’

At the thought of both of them dying, Vivian Yates’s heart blossomed with glee.

’Everyone dies eventually, don’t they?’

’To have that couple accompany me to the grave... Well,’ she thought, ’that’s just unbelievably satisfying.’

As she had this thought, a cold smile touched Vivian Yates’s lips, and she closed her eyes again.

Leona Grant watched her for a moment before sneering, "You really won’t be satisfied until you’re staring into the Grivan River, will you? It seems I’ll have to teach you a lesson."

With that, Leona Grant gave Chase a look, and Chase nodded.

A moment later, several people dressed like doctors entered the room.

Leona Grant looked at Vivian Yates and said coolly, "Since Miss Yates is so concerned with her dignity, allow me to make it even more... noble. Do it!"

As he spoke, he sat down in a nearby chair, a cruel, mocking smile playing on his lips as he watched them.

The doctor acknowledged the order with a murmur and bent down, rummaging through something. Vivian couldn’t see clearly what it was.

After a minute or so, the doctor straightened up, holding a cold syringe.
