Chapter 781: Chapter 781: Why Is He Coming Here?

Mia burst in, her arms full of things, shouting, "Annabelle, your husband will be here in a little over two hours! Hurry, hurry, hurry!"

Annabelle’s first reaction was to freeze, but a second later, she sprang out of bed.

The sudden movement made her dizzy and she stumbled, but Annabelle didn’t waste a second. She grabbed the items from Mia’s hands and ran into the bathroom.

Worried she smelled of medicine, she took a ten-minute shower, scrubbing herself furiously and nearly using half a bottle of shower gel in the process.

Mia wasn’t idle, either. She quickly got out Annabelle’s makeup, curling iron, and other supplies.

"Mia," Annabelle called out from the shower, "how did you know Leona Grant was coming over?"

As she unscrewed caps and tore open packaging, Mia said, "You’re the one who doesn’t want him to know you’re infected with the virus, right? We’ve been keeping tabs on your husband, worried he might just show up one day. If he catches you in the act, he’d never stand for you using your own body for experiments. And if he insisted on doing it himself and there was only one dose of the antidote, what would you do then?!"

Regardless of how things were between them now, Leona Grant had indeed treated Annabelle terribly in the past.

If Annabelle hadn’t accidentally seen that file, she would never have forgiven Leona Grant. But she couldn’t explain any of this to Mr. Holland and the others.

That was why, in their hearts, Mia and Mr. Holland had never truly forgiven Leona Grant. They only kept quiet because Annabelle loved him.

In truth, if there were only one dose of the antidote, Annabelle would have given it to Leona Grant.

But Annabelle kept this thought to herself.

She finished her shower quickly.

Annabelle changed her clothes and quickly applied some makeup—not too heavy, not too light, essentially a natural look. It perfectly concealed the haggardness in her face without looking deliberate. Then she curled her hair to give it some volume, making her look as relaxed and casual as she always did.

Knowing Leona Grant, he would likely head straight to the hotel to find her.

Once she was ready, Annabelle hurried to the hotel.

Just in case he decided to surprise her and catch her off guard, Annabelle brought some files with her.

That way, if he asked what she’d been up to, she’d have a ready answer.

She arrived at the hotel quickly. Leona Grant wasn’t there yet. Annabelle let out a breath of relief.

But because she had rushed over, a sharp pain flared in her stomach, and she broke into a violent coughing fit.

She quickly swallowed a few pills to manage the symptoms, which barely helped her catch her breath.

Annabelle sat at the vanity, studying her reflection. She looked normal enough, but no amount of makeup could hide the exhaustion that clung to her. It was in her eyes, her entire demeanor.

’But that’s fine,’ she thought. ’Trying too hard to look perfect would only make Leona Grant suspicious.’

’But why is he coming here, anyway?’

’Did he find something out? Or is he just coming for a visit?’

Annabelle couldn’t figure it out.

As she sat there, a sudden noise came from the window.

Annabelle had a habit of opening the window as soon as she entered a room, as long as it wasn’t too cold.

She loved the scent of the sun and the wind.

She had just walked toward it when someone suddenly climbed in through the open window, startling her.

Before she could even react, she was pulled into a fierce kiss.

The familiar scent, the commanding presence... she knew instantly who it was.

Annabelle stared, wide-eyed, at the man in front of her.

Leona Grant looked back at her, his gaze gentle. It wasn’t a deep kiss; he pulled back slightly and broke into a soft smile.
