Chapter 782: Chapter 783: I Missed You, So I Came

For a fleeting moment, Annabelle felt all her current efforts were worth it.

Leona Grant wrapped his arm around her waist, lifted her up, then sat on the bed and placed her on his lap. His lips pressed against hers. He didn’t speak, just gazed at her, as if trying to freeze her in his sight forever.

Annabelle gazed back at him, just as deeply.

They had been apart for over twenty days, but to her, it felt like a lifetime.

Though they spoke on the phone every day, it did nothing to ease the longing. It only made her miss him more.

Leona Grant cupped her face and kissed her.

For some reason, he had been feeling very uneasy lately, as if something terrible was about to happen. His heart was in a constant state of panic, but he couldn’t pinpoint the exact feeling. He hadn’t even felt this way when he first found out he was poisoned.

His premonitions were usually accurate. He didn’t know what this one was trying to tell him, but the person he worried about most was Annabelle. So, he had thrown caution to the wind and come to her.

Seeing her standing before him, safe and sound, Leona Grant’s anxious heart could finally rest.

She seemed to have lost a lot of weight. She was already slender, but now she looked even thinner, her chin more pointed.

’It must be because of my illness.’

While he was sick, his woman had been wearing herself out for him.

Their kisses always ended when Annabelle ran out of air, and this time was no exception.

Annabelle seemed utterly unaware that she had instinctively grabbed onto him.

Her arms were looped around his neck, her head bowed as she panted softly.

Watching her, Leona Grant found her more and more adorable, his affection growing with every second. He couldn’t help but pinch her cheek. "I’ve taught you a hundred times, and you still haven’t learned how to breathe? You pick up everything else so easily, so why can’t you learn this? Are you doing it on purpose?"

Annabelle kept her head down, smiling shyly. "I don’t know either," she murmured.

’He really has tried to teach me many times, but every time he does, I instinctively want to pull away.’

’It always gets so awkward, and I just can’t seem to learn. I feel so helpless.’

Leona Grant looked at her with fond exasperation. "Looks like I’ll have to teach you for a lifetime before you finally learn," he said indulgently.

The moment Leona Grant finished speaking, they both froze.

A watery glint of pain flashed through Annabelle’s eyes.

’A lifetime? Given our current situation, how could we possibly have a lifetime? We’re going to die soon...’

As Annabelle thought of this, a sharp glint flashed in her eyes.

’So, why exactly did Leona Grant come here?’

’He couldn’t have discovered that I have the virus too, right? If he knew, given his personality, he wouldn’t be this calm.’

’Or... has he already found out, and now he’s just testing me? Trying to get me to confess?’

A shadow flickered in Annabelle’s eyes. She immediately looked up and asked tentatively, "So... why did you suddenly come over without giving me a heads-up?"

Leona Grant ruffled her hair. "I missed you, so I came," he said. "So? Are you surprised?"

’It’s a surprise, all right. If Mia and the others hadn’t taken precautions, I’m afraid I would’ve been caught red-handed today.’

"It’s a wonderful surprise." Annabelle pecked him on the cheek, then looked at him with concern. "How’s your health now?"

He didn’t want to die, nor did he want to leave her, and he knew Annabelle was exhausting herself daily over his virus. Even so, Leona Grant didn’t like it when Annabelle asked about his condition.
