Chapter 783: Chapter 784: Let’s Go to the Hospital

It made him feel so useless.

Leona Grant answered perfunctorily, "I’m already much better."

But how could Annabelle Linton not see that he was just putting on an act? He looked utterly haggard.

The man she remembered as spirited and strikingly handsome now exuded a faint air of weakness.

Annabelle Linton had the virus herself, so she knew firsthand the suffering it caused.

At this thought, a resolute glint flashed in her eyes. No matter how much she had to suffer, she was determined to make him well again.

Even if he couldn’t be fully cured, she would still give it her all.

Seeing her worried expression, Leona Grant pressed his lips together, gently held her, and said, "Annabelle Linton, I’ll be fine. I’ll stay with you for a long, long time."

’Will I really?’

In truth, he didn’t know either.

The researchers had told him the virus was too unusual. Unless a miracle occurred, it would be impossible to develop an antidote in the remaining three months.

He desperately wanted to spend his final moments with her, but he had to make preparations.

’What if I die? I don’t want this foolish woman to die with me.’

The thought brought Leona Grant a small sense of relief.

Worried that Annabelle Linton might be hiding something from him again, he had taken a sample of her blood and had it tested one more time.

Thankfully, Annabelle Linton wasn’t infected. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have known what to do.

Annabelle Linton gave a muffled "mhm," then sighed and said, "I believe you."

Leona Grant kissed her.

Since he was here, they certainly weren’t going to waste time.

In the afternoon, the two of them went out to eat and did a little shopping afterward.

In reality, the severity of the virus was the same for both of them, but because Annabelle Linton had been testing potential cures and holing herself up in the research lab, her constitution was much weaker.

While they were out shopping, Annabelle Linton kept coughing from time to time.

Leona Grant watched her with concern. "That cold sounds pretty bad. Have you taken any medicine lately? Let’s go to the hospital and have it checked out."

With that, he started pulling her toward the hospital.

Annabelle Linton looked at him helplessly. "Aren’t I a doctor myself? It’s really nothing. Don’t make such a big deal out of it."

But Leona Grant was still not convinced.

’Didn’t he know this woman by now?’

’She had no regard for her own body and didn’t take care of herself at all. He’d lost count of how many times he had lectured her about it, but she never learned her lesson.’

Leona Grant didn’t believe her for a second. He domineeringly pulled her toward the hospital.

A regular doctor wouldn’t be able to detect the virus they both had.

Even a highly skilled physician would need specialized equipment to run a diagnosis.

So, Annabelle Linton wasn’t too worried. To put his mind at ease, she simply let him take her to the hospital.

Sure enough, the doctor inside said Annabelle Linton just had a bit of a cold, a slightly severe one, but nothing that some medicine and good rest couldn’t fix.

Annabelle Linton coughed twice, then looked at him reassuringly. "See? Are you satisfied now? It’s just a little cold. I’ll be fine after some rest."

Leona Grant was still frowning at her. He couldn’t help but say, "Didn’t I tell you to get plenty of rest? How did you suddenly catch a cold? How can I possibly leave you here alone when you’re like this?"

"It’s really nothing. I probably forgot to close the window one day and caught a chill. Don’t worry."

After speaking, Annabelle Linton said to him, "Wait here for me for a second. I’m going to the restroom."

Watching her act so nonchalant, Leona Grant felt a true sense of helplessness.

’How did I end up falling for a woman like this?’

"Give me your bag. I’ll hold it for you."

Annabelle Linton handed him her bag and turned to walk toward the restroom.
