Remarriage Failed Again Today
Chapter 784: Why Do You Have This in Your Bag?
Chapter 784: Chapter 784: Why Do You Have This in Your Bag?
Annabelle Linton handed him her bag and turned toward the restroom.
In truth, she could barely stand it any longer. She felt terribly ill, but she didn’t dare show any weakness around Leona Grant.
Annabelle Linton reached the restroom and coughed hard for a long time.
When she finally managed to stop, a streak of bright red stood out starkly against the pale yellow handkerchief she had pressed to her mouth.
Annabelle Linton unfolded the handkerchief. Just as she’d suspected, there was a bloodstain on it.
’Looks like testing the medicine has really done a lot of damage.’
She stared at the handkerchief, her eyes welling up.
’If I keep testing this medicine... what if I die before Leona Grant?’
’There’s nothing I can do.’
Annabelle Linton wiped the corners of her eyes, pulled a small packet from her pocket, and swallowed a handful of pills.
’Just hold on a little longer, Annabelle. You’ll both survive.’
Worried Leona Grant would get anxious from waiting, Annabelle Linton quickly composed herself in the mirror after taking her medicine and hurried out of the restroom.
Just after she left, the phone in her bag began to ring.
Leona Grant unzipped her bag and was about to get the phone when a little boy ran up and bumped into him.
Leona Grant was already looking down, so the collision took him by surprise.
The bag fell to the ground, its contents scattering everywhere.
"I’m so sorry, mister! I didn’t do it on purpose."
The little boy quickly apologized, squatting down to help Leona Grant pick up the items.
"Mister, your medicine."
The little boy held out a medicine bottle, handing it to Leona Grant.
Leona Grant took the bottle. It looked familiar, and he couldn’t help but take a second look.
It was medicine for managing their virus. He had a bottle just like it, one that Annabelle Linton had given him.
When Annabelle Linton returned, she saw Leona Grant holding her open bag, staring at something in his hand.
A closer look confirmed her fears—it was the very medicine she had just taken for her symptoms.
Annabelle Linton’s mind went blank, a buzzing sound filling her ears.
Because of her condition, she always kept that medicine in her bag.
Earlier, when she started feeling unwell, she had seized the opportunity while Leona Grant was getting her some medicine to secretly grab a few pills.
Leona Grant wasn’t the type to just rummage through her bag, so when he had offered to hold it for her moments ago, she hadn’t thought twice.
Seeing the little boy on the floor handing up a set of keys, Annabelle Linton pieced together what must have happened.
She took a steadying breath and walked over, pretending she hadn’t seen a thing. "What are you looking at?" she asked.
Leona Grant held up the medicine bottle and asked, puzzled, "Why do you have this in your bag?"
Annabelle Linton casually took the bag and the medicine from him, placing the bottle back inside. "I must have put it in there during our last research session," she said lightly. "I probably just forgot to take it out."
"Thank you, sweetie." Annabelle Linton smiled, patting the little boy’s head as she took the keys from his hand.
The little boy looked at Annabelle Linton and couldn’t help but blush. "You’re welcome! Tori loves pretty ladies. I’m happy I could help you."
After saying his piece, the little boy shyly ran off.
Annabelle Linton watched his chubby little figure disappear, lost in thought for a moment.
’It would be so nice if Leona Grant and I had a child like that.’
"Let’s head back."
Annabelle Linton smiled and turned to speak to Leona Grant, but she froze when she saw him staring at her with a somber expression.
A guilty conscience robs you of your nerve.
Annabelle Linton met his gaze and felt a surge of anxiety.
