Annabelle Linton continued to shake her head.

“Country V has three great families: the North Family, the Valerius Family, and the Stratton Family. Since Country V is a hereditary monarchy, the heir is chosen from within, which means the successor can only be selected from one of these three families.

Among these three families, the Stratton Family oversees the military, the Valerius Family the finances, and the North Family the government.

Long ago, the three families were as close as brothers. Choosing a successor each year was always a difficult decision. To prevent future conflicts and ensure stability, they eventually decreed that the heir would always be a descendant of the North Family, the family that oversaw the government.

“The reason these three families are so revered is that they possess a unique, noble bloodline: RX-negative. This is a state secret, unknown even to the citizens of Country V. The trait reliably skips a generation, and in each generation, only one person—male or female—is born with it. This means that at any given time, there are only three people in the entire world with RX-negative blood.”

It skips a generation, meaning if the grandparents have it, their grandchild will have it, but their own children will not.

And only one person per generation has it. This means that within one of the families, no matter how many children are born, only one will inherit the trait.

Annabelle Linton listened, utterly stunned. “What if something happens to the heir from the North Family?” she asked, bewildered.

“If that happens, an heir is chosen from one of the other two families. It’s happened before,” Aaron Wyatt replied. “But there must be proof of death—we need a body. You only went missing, which is why Country V has been without a true leader all this time. Your father is acting as regent. If you don’t reappear by your thirtieth birthday, you’ll be declared legally dead, and a new heir will be chosen from one of the other two families.”

Annabelle Linton’s eyes widened. “And then what?”

“When you were born and your blood type was confirmed, you became the new leader of Country V. You were to be raised and educated by your grandfather and parents to lead the nation. Then, you would wait for your own grandchild to be born with the trait, and you and your children would raise them to lead, and so on, down the line.”

Annabelle Linton understood. ‘The heir’s age doesn’t matter, because two generations are there to raise them. They’re chosen at birth and grow up immersed in that world. It’s all to highlight their extraordinary destiny.’

Aaron Wyatt’s expression grew heavy. “But on the day of your enthronement, a violent uprising suddenly erupted in Country V. The old King died in the conflict, and you disappeared. Afterward, the Stratton Family, blaming themselves for the failure, withdrew from Country V and went into hiding under a new identity. Of the three great families, only two remained in the vast nation: the North Family and the Valerius Family.”

Annabelle Linton felt a profound sense of shock and disbelief as she listened.

In truth, she was still struggling to accept her identity.

‘But what does any of this have to do with the antidote? Could the antidote be in Country V?’

As Annabelle Linton was thinking, a realization suddenly struck her. She snapped her head toward Aaron Wyatt, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Then… you… Leona Grant…” she stammered, “You’re all…”

‘There are only three people in the world with RX-negative blood, one for each of the three families. The three of us all have that same blood type. I’m the heir of the North Family… so that means the two of them?!’

Aaron Wyatt pressed his lips together. “I am the heir of the Valerius Family,” he said. “And Leona Grant is the heir of the Stratton Family.”

‘So the Stratton Family, after taking the blame, went into hiding and became the Grant Family. It all makes perfect sense.’

Annabelle Linton felt like she was watching a play unfold.
