Chapter 801: Chapter 801: I’m Sorry, Annabelle

Annabelle Linton felt as though she were watching a play.

The family she had lived with for half her life wasn’t truly hers. Among the friends she had known for years, one turned out to be her brother, and the other... a member of her own clan. Now, even her husband was from the same clan. Such a dramatic turn of events had all happened to her. Even a movie wouldn’t be this wildly unpredictable, right?

Quentin Holland looked at her. Licking his dry lips, he asked in a deep voice, "Then do you know what happened during the riots in Country V?"

Annabelle shook her head.

A deep sorrow flickered in Aaron Wyatt’s eyes. His voice was slightly hoarse as he said, "It was my father who colluded with foreigners. Your father knew, but he didn’t have any evidence. My mother and oldest brother died in that riot as well."

What a massive plot twist...

"...Then why did your father do that? ...For the throne?" Annabelle asked numbly. With everything going on, she truly felt like every word they spoke was an explosive bombshell.

"It was for the throne," Aaron confirmed. "He wanted to be the leader of Country V, so everything you’re going through right now is his doing. Furthermore, my father believes your father was the one who got them killed, which is why he has been completely at odds with the Norths ever since. I’m sorry, Annabelle."

"Huh?" Annabelle was utterly baffled.

Aaron looked at her earnestly, enunciating every word. "My father wanted to usurp the throne. He had been planning it for twenty years, but he still miscalculated. He let you get taken away, which completely ruined his chances of seizing power.

"A few years ago, he discovered your existence, so he sent me to get close to you as a backup plan. I’m sorry. I approached you with an ulterior motive, but rest assured, I never wanted to hurt you, nor have I ever hurt you. However, everything you’re suffering through now all stems from me."

Annabelle’s eyes widened.

Seeing the shock on her face made Aaron feel terrible. Hearing what happened next would probably make her even more disappointed in him.

"The one who poisoned you was my father. He was also the one secretly backing Vivian Yates in everything she did to you. The goal was to make Leona Grant hate you.

"He’s also the one poisoning you now. He knew how much you loved Leona Grant, and that you would give him the antidote. Then, once you died, he would tell your parents about it. Out of family pride, the Norths would have no choice but to go to war with the Grant family, allowing my father to sit back and reap the spoils."

Annabelle was shocked yet again. Aaron had actually approached her with an ulterior motive, and his father was the mastermind behind all of this?! She was completely at a loss for words.

Aaron continued, "Even though I had motives for getting close to you, you have to believe me, Annabelle. I truly never wanted to hurt you, and my feelings for you are genuine. I’m not asking for your forgiveness; I just want to say I’m sorry." He looked at her with utmost sincerity.

Annabelle pursed her lips, trying to digest all of this. To be honest, her mind was struggling to process it. Truthfully, upon hearing all this, aside from shock, she didn’t really feel much else.

Did she hate Aaron? Not really.

She was willing to believe him. She really was. Even though she hadn’t known the truth in either of her two lives, she still chose to trust him. Many things couldn’t be faked; after all, Aaron had never actually hurt her.

If anything, Annabelle actually felt a bit relieved. Previously, she had felt immensely guilty toward him, believing she had wronged him and let him down.
