Chapter 803: I Don’t Want to Part With Him
Chapter 803: Chapter 803: I Don’t Want to Part With Him
How was she supposed to live without Leona?
A flash of resolve crossed Annabelle Linton’s eyes. She gritted her teeth. "And if I refuse?"
Quentin Holland looked at her. "Then the virus will flare up in two months, and you’ll die."
"Tch—" Annabelle scoffed, asking sarcastically, "And if I agree, does that mean I have to go to Country V and never see Leona again for the rest of my life?"
Quentin stared at her unblinking, his tone dead serious. "Annabelle, you need to understand that as long as you’re alive, anything is possible. If you’re dead, you have nothing.
"Besides, do you know what the consequences will be if you die? Julian Valerius is doing this specifically so that after your death, he can frame the Grant family for everything. After all, Leona treated you terribly in the past. If Julian claims Leona used you and caused your death, everyone will believe it. Then the Norths and the Grant family will go to war. It will inevitably end in mutually assured destruction.
"Setting everything else aside, do you want Leona to get hurt too? And if you die, will he even keep living? For the sake of the person you love and the people who love you, shouldn’t you stay strong and live?"
Tears slowly slipped from Annabelle’s eyes. Heartbroken, she asked, "Quentin, do I really have to go? Can’t you negotiate with them? Either I stay, or Leona goes to Country V with me. I don’t want to be separated from him."
"If Leona goes to Country V too, Julian will definitely interfere. He’ll plunge the entire Grant family into chaos, and at that point, my hands will truly be tied."
Annabelle’s eyes instantly hollowed out. As if completely drained of energy, she asked lifelessly, "So I tell Leona about my illness now, and then eventually let him think I’m dead?"
Quentin nodded. "Yes."
"I understand."
Annabelle had absolutely nothing left to say. Lowering her gaze, she cried silently for a while before standing up and walking away mechanically. A glimmer of light flashed through Quentin’s profound eyes.
Annabelle spent the next few days wallowing in despair inside her room. At first, she had despaired over not finding the antidote. Now, the antidote was found, but it meant she had to leave. Her heart ached as if it were being torn apart.
She didn’t understand why her life was so difficult. From her past life to her rebirth in this one, she hadn’t known a single moment of peace. On the last day of her downward spiral, she drank heavily. She lay in bed for a long time and cried for even longer, but she couldn’t stop the next day from arriving.
Annabelle got dressed, packed her bags, and left Serenvale to return to Lynton.
Leona’s health was deteriorating by the day, and his mental state was equally poor. Last night, he had spiked a high fever and ended up sleeping at home all day. He knew he didn’t have much longer to live, but he hadn’t told Annabelle. He didn’t want her to worry.
Getting up in a daze, he poured himself a glass of water. After taking a few sips, he set the glass down, leaned against the headboard, and exhaustedly pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You’re awake? Hurry up and wash up, then come downstairs to eat."
As Leona sat there, Annabelle’s voice suddenly rang out. He snapped his head up. She stood there in a light-colored apron and slippers, looking at him tenderly.
He just stared blankly at her, unable to process the situation. He didn’t remember Annabelle saying she was coming over. Or was this a hallucination?
Still in his pajamas, Leona’s face was slightly flushed from the fever. Seeing his messy hair and adorably bewildered expression, Annabelle found him incredibly cute. She walked over, planted a kiss on him, and gently rubbed his cheek. "You need to eat even more when you’re sick. I made your favorites, so come downstairs and eat."
