Chapter 1162 - 1134: Xiaowei’s Plea for Help
Chapter 1162: Chapter 1134: Xiaowei’s Plea for Help
A good mindset is the best medicine against illness.
"Oh right, are you still seeing Qiuqiu’s dad?" The moment cancer was mentioned, Yu Minglang thought of Qiuqiu.
"Yeah, tomorrow after I get out of school I have to go see him."
Thinking of Qiuqiu’s dad, Qian rubbed her temples.
"What’s wrong, is that old man’s condition too serious for you to handle?" Yu Minglang had only heard Qian mention him. By now his wife had been treating Qiuqiu’s dad for several months, twice a week, two thousand a session.
Thanks to this rustic tycoon, all of Qian’s daily expenses were basically covered by Qiuqiu’s dad, and they could still save a lot.
"It’s not that I can’t treat him, it’s exactly that he’s recovering too well... No wonder Qiuqiu keeps muttering that his dad’s a good guy who won’t live long, while scourges live a thousand years."
Back when Qiuqiu’s dad had surgery, the hospital actually told Qiuqiu to buy a coffin and get the funeral arrangements ready, saying that even with surgery he didn’t have much time left.
Who would have thought that ever since Qian started treating him, this old man has been getting better day by day, strong as an ox and eating like a horse. Just yesterday he was full of vigor yelling at Qiuqiu, made Qiuqiu so mad his blood pressure almost shot up, while the old man was perfectly fine gnawing on a big drumstick and still shouting that he was hungry.
"Pfft, he’s recovering well and you’re having a headache? That just proves my wife’s skills are good. We’re not pocketing that two thousand a week for nothing. I’ll have Big Brother advertise for you later, let’s take on more of this kind of client."
Qian sighed. Bai Jin’s overseas posting was ending; she was thinking about whether to come back to China.
Originally, Qian had pulled some strings to get Bai Jin sent abroad, mainly to hide her from the mess between Qiuqiu and his dad. But Bai Jin turned out to be much more capable than expected; she did exceptionally well overseas. The station wanted her to stay in Country E as a resident special correspondent, and had already mentioned renewing her contract.
"I started out with some not-so-pure intentions."
Yu Minglang’s hands immediately cooperated with what Qian said, roaming up and down in a very impure way, and Qian slapped them away.
"That’s not the kind of ’not pure’ I meant. I meant I just wanted Bai Jin and Qiuqiu to drag things out. Wasn’t that old man already in late-stage metastasis? No matter what, the two youngsters should outlive him. But from what I see of that old man’s drumstick-gnawing stance, living another five to eight years is no problem, he might even live into a medical miracle."
Qian rubbed her temples. "Once this phase passes I need to adjust my strategic plan. I can’t keep stalling."
Yu Minglang’s hand kneading the "bun" (her belly) paused. "Wife, what are you planning to do? Don’t tell me you’re thinking about not treating him properly and letting the old man die on purpose? I’m warning you, we can’t do that. We’re taking eight thousand a month from him!"
Qian pinched his ear, not too gently. "What kind of person do you take me for! Do you think I’m the type who’ll use any means necessary and treat patients’ lives like a joke?"
"...Telling the truth comes at a price. I choose to remain silent."
"Silent my ass! That is exactly what you think! You’re sleeping on the floor tonight!"
Qian smacked his head with the medical file and turned into the bedroom.
Yu Minglang helplessly stroked the beauty’s head, racking his brains for ways to pounce on Qian later without getting bitten. This girl could be vicious—once you pissed her off she’d chomp straight at your face. He, a dignified vice president, had already been branded with two rows of tiny teeth marks; how embarrassing was that.
"Xiaoqiang, get over here!"
"My shoulders are sore, massage them."
"Oh." He didn’t suspect anything and really started kneading seriously.
After a while she suddenly "returned to Anhui": "Not bad service. Here, big sis will give you a reward, want it?"
Huh...?!
How could happiness arrive so suddenly?!
Before turning off the light, Qian glanced faintly at the calendar on the nightstand. On it were the dates she’d already calculated last month, circled with a little baby doodle.
Hmph, out of the whole month, these few days were the easiest to make a baby. How could she miss them? If she didn’t hurry up and get pregnant with a bun, her mom said she wouldn’t even get to eat crab anymore!
And so poor Xiaoqiang was used just like that, and was grinning from ear to ear while being used.
My wife loves me too much, I’m too happy, what do I do!
↑ by Xiaoqiang, whose heart was bursting with excitement and who was having the illusion that his status in the family had risen.
This time we’re definitely bringing Xiaowei back. If we don’t succeed then we die trying—draining Xiaoqiang dry is totally fine!
↑ by Qian, whose heart was full of little buns.
Before bed, Qian held her stomach and drifted off, exhausted. Maybe it was that what you think in the day you dream at night—because in her dream, she saw a chubby white baby reaching out and calling her "Mommy." Qian was just about to reach out and hold the baby when she heard Xiaowei’s slightly anxious voice saying, "Daddy, save me!"
Qian wanted to search for her daughter’s figure, but the baby was gone, everything was gone, there was only darkness. In that darkness, her daughter’s calls of "Daddy" came again and again, filled with real feeling.
"Xiaowei!"
Qian jolted awake from the dream, her whole body sitting up. Her heart was racing, and she couldn’t tell dream from reality. She threw back the covers and got out of bed to go looking for her daughter.
"Careful!" Yu Minglang woke at the slightest movement. He reacted quickly and grabbed Qian back, otherwise she would’ve stepped into thin air and fallen off the bed.
"Xiaoqiang, the child... save the child!" After he grabbed her, that sense of terror inside her still hadn’t passed; she was still trapped in the nightmare.
"What child? Wife, you had a nightmare?"
"A dream... yeah, it was a dream." Qian finally came back to herself.
She couldn’t say whether she was happy that that pitch-black, ice-cold dream was just a dream, or sad that once again she’d brushed past her daughter.
"It’s okay, it’s okay, dreams are all fake. Don’t be scared~ Hubby will smooth it out for you~ Come on~ tug your ears for a bit, pat you so your soul returns, cats get spooked, dogs get spooked, but Qian won’t get spooked."
He used the way elders soothe children to "call back her soul," and Qian’s mind finally settled.
"Aren’t you a staunch atheist? How come you believe in this stuff too?"
"Sometimes there’s no other way to coax a daughter. I’ll just treat you like my daughter. Daughter, go to sleep."
Yu Minglang pulled her into his arms. Qian closed her eyes, still turning that dream over in her mind.
Why would her daughter call out to her dad for help in the dream?
Could it be that her daughter still refused to forgive her and didn’t even want to ask her for help?
This thought tormented Qian over and over, until a long time later when she suddenly realized that this dream was actually so meaningful, and it hinted at a future that would be soul-stirring and especially warm.
