Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 1266: She Is Not My Daughter at All

  • Next Chapter

Qian felt that what she was going to do to her mother was somewhat cruel.

Although she and Yu Minglang didn’t bring it up last night, they both understood one thing: if Qian’s speculation was confirmed, then her parentage would truly become uncertain.

Her mother was so good to her, almost giving her all her heart. Would it really be right to insist on doing this?

“Why be polite with your own mom? Are you crazy?” Qian’s mom tapped her forehead, making her heart waver again.

Why not just keep things as they are.

Her mother had raised her for so many years with deep affection. The last time there was a stampede at the mall, her mother nearly went crazy rushing into the crowd. Who would question such love?

Qian was deeply hesitant, while her mother remained unaware, gripping her arm and chatting about this and that. Suddenly, Qian’s mom thought of something.

“Qian’er, are you changing teachers in the second half of the year? Is it that young Mr. Qio from last time?”

“Yes.”

“Have you found out what he likes to eat? He seems to be quite good to you. We should repay kindness with kindness; ask him what he likes, and I’ll buy it for him.”

“No need. Besides, what good stuff could you buy? He has spent years abroad and seen everything.”

“That’s different. Precisely because he’s seen everything, he would like things that can’t be bought. I saw on the news the other day that it’s quite dangerous abroad, with shootings and chaos…so dangerous!”

Upon hearing the word “dangerous,” Qian’s previously wavering heart immediately made a decision.

“Mom, I have an assignment involving hypnosis, but I don’t have a test subject. Could you cooperate with me?”

“Sure, what do I have to do?” Qian’s mom didn’t know what hypnosis was; she just knew her daughter needed her.

“Lie down, find a comfortable position, and follow my commands.”

She needed to uncover the truth, not to determine whose child she was.

Her sole intention was to protect her mother. Only by knowing the complete truth could she grasp what she truly wanted.

Qian proceeded to hypnotize her mother, and, as expected, her mother was highly susceptible to hypnosis, quickly entering a deep state.

After asking several questions and seeing her mother respond fluently, Qian steered the conversation to her intended topic.

“Have you ever seen Qio Yu Xuan before?”

Upon hearing the name Qio Yu Xuan, Qian’s mom’s expression suddenly turned painful.

Seeing no response, Qian asked the question again.

“Have you ever seen Qio Yu Xuan?”

At this moment, it was as if two voices emerged in Qian’s mom’s mind: one was the gentle male voice of Qio Yu Xuan, and the other was Qian’s voice.

Suddenly, Qian’s mom let out a scream. Qian had never encountered such a situation before, frightened enough to promptly end her mother’s hypnotic state, but she understood one thing in her heart.

Someone had tampered with her mother’s memory. How despicable!

Qian’s mom woke from the hypnotic state, and Qian urgently inquired.

“Mom, how do you feel?”

She had never encountered such a situation, didn’t know what had been done to her mother, and feared potential aftereffects, so she asked anxiously.

Though Qian’s mom had awakened from hypnosis, her response differed from others. She was panting heavily, hitting her chest with her hand.

“Oh my! Qian’er, what kind of assignment is this? It’s so scary! I just saw your dead father’s face everywhere, turning into a skull. It scared me to death!”

“Apart from seeing that, is there anything else?”

“Nothing much. But now, hearing your dead father’s name makes me uncomfortable; it disgusts me like swallowing flies.”

Qian asked several times to ensure there were no further negative reactions before she felt relieved.

Yu Minglang came back a little earlier today and took the opportunity to ask Qian while her mother was cooking.

“Did you find anything?”

“It’s infuriating! Someone has tampered with my mom’s memory!” Qian explained the situation and Yu Minglang also felt it was unusual.

The opponent was really cunning, working on Qian’s mom’s memory ahead of time.

“Actually, apart from your mother, there is one more person who should know what happened back then.”

Yu Minglang hesitated, and Qian recognized from his expression who he meant.

“I know who you’re talking about. Although I despise Chen Lin, he’s currently the only lead, and I can’t let it go. I’ll go find Chen Lin when I send mom back tomorrow!”

Yu Minglang nodded, “I happen to have time tomorrow; I’ll go back with you myself.”

The next day, Qian’s mom was perplexed about why her daughter was sending her back so soon after she’d just arrived. Qian made up an excuse saying she missed the roadside stalls back home and wanted to stay for a few days. Her mom lectured her but still went along.

They hadn’t been home for half a day when Yu Minglang took Qian out under the pretense of shopping, heading directly to Chen Lin’s current residence.

Yu Minglang had asked someone in advance for the location.

Chen Lin hadn’t been doing well these past few years, arguably becoming more of a mess. When Yu Minglang and Qian arrived at the dirty and chaotic environment, Qian frowned deeply.

“Wasn’t he supposed to be sick? Why is he living in such a terrible place?”

“I had transferred some money to him after he got sick. Dalong also gave him some when he returned last time; beyond treatment, he insists on gambling every day. You know gambling has no limits, so he’s always strapped for cash.”

Yu Minglang also admired Chen Lin. The problem with high-interest loans hadn’t been solved, and then he developed pancreatic cancer, yet none of this crushed his persistent gambling spirit—persistent indeed.

“Dalong didn’t match the type, and this guy isn’t worried at all.” Qian snorted, like a dog that can’t stop eating dung, predicting Chen Lin’s life won’t change.

Such cancer in its later stages requires a bone marrow transplant; though a suitable match hasn’t been found yet, Chen Lin wasn’t worried, continuing with a resigned ‘die-hard’ determination.

Qian and Yu Minglang navigated the dirty alleys of the urban village, arriving at Chen Lin’s place—a very filthy courtyard housing many families. Without drainage systems, waste flowed onto the streets, with Yu Minglang carrying Qian to avoid stepping in it.

As the two prepared to enter the courtyard, they overheard voices inside.

“Lin, you’re like this; why not go to the hospital?” It seemed like neighbors were chatting.

“What hospital? Hospitals aren’t free. I had a useless son who tossed me 5000 bucks last time; after a few games, it was gone, let alone hospitalization.”

Dalong had visited just a few days ago; hearing that, Qian was enraged by how quickly the 5000 had been squandered, on top of what Yu Minglang had given him.

Dalong had just started working not long ago, and even though his wage wasn’t low, most of it was saved with Qian’s help. Those 5000 must have been saved over a long period of frugality, and likely comprised the pocket money from Qian’s mom, possibly borrowing from friends too.

Yet the person dared to be picky, making Qian’s blood boil.

The neighbor continued, “Don’t you have a daughter too? I heard she’s doing great.”

“Bah! What daughter! She’s a bastard child! You know she’s not my daughter at all!”
