Chapter 1273: Chapter 1245: If You Are Safe

"What? That guy still hasn’t had enough fun messing with me, now he’s sending you, his little lackey, over here for what?" Qian saw Nong Yao and immediately pulled a face.

"What’s a lackey?"

"A term that ’compliments’ someone for being clever."

Nong Yao silently jotted that down again, though he didn’t believe it for a second. Qian was the best at staring you straight in the eye and spouting serious-sounding nonsense!

"What are you here for? If that old man sent you, you can get lost." Qian hated the house and its crow, so she didn’t have a good attitude toward that guy’s number-one lackey either.

"He’s the one who pissed you off, you’ve got a grudge, go take it out on him. Even in war, they don’t behead the envoy." Nong Yao flashed the notebook in his hand. "I’m here to deliver something to you."

"Hmph." Qian turned sideways to let him in, and in passing swept all the snacks off the coffee table and put them away, not leaving a single crumb for Nong Yao!

On a normal day, Nong Yao would’ve doggedly traded barbs with Qian and used it as an excuse to mooch some food. But today his expression was unusually serious; he had put away his usual fake elegance, his face so tight that anyone could tell something had happened.

Seeing his expression, Qian felt something was off. Then she watched Nong Yao take everything out of his bag and set it on the table.

A card and a hard drive.

"What the hell is this?" Qian squinted at them, wanting to know what kind of stunt Qio Yu Xuan was pulling this time.

"His pocket money for you. The card’s password is here, the money’s all in the Swiss Bank, you can withdraw it when you need it."

Qian’s hackles went up as soon as she heard that; she snatched up the card and flung it.

"What, does he think I’m a beggar he can buy off?"

He gets her all riled up, then throws some cash at her and runs?

"Take it back, I don’t need it!"

"This really can’t be taken back. If you don’t want it, you can return it to him yourself—but you’ll have to wait till he comes back... if he can still come back." Just thinking about that made Nong Yao seethe inside. The old man was too sly—knocked him out and ran, and now he couldn’t even catch up.

"What kind of trick is that guy trying to use to con me this time?" When Qian heard Nong Yao say he might not come back, her expression shifted slightly. Then she remembered Qio Yu Xuan’s long track record of lying through his teeth, and quickly steadied herself. She couldn’t get duped again.

"He’s gone to a place he can’t tell you about. Before he left, he wrote a note and asked me to pass you a message: when you’re having the baby, he will definitely rush back to see you and the baby. If he can’t make it back—"

At this point, Nong Yao looked up at the ceiling for a while, seeming to be holding a lot back.

Qian thought, are these two clowns teaming up again to spin a yarn and fool her?

But it didn’t look like it...

"How would he not be able to come back?" Qian asked.

Nong Yao shook his head. "Don’t ask what you shouldn’t. If he doesn’t come back, what’s in here is enough to keep you learning for the rest of your life. His life’s work is all in here. Master said he’s sorry he never gave you the childhood you wanted. Whatever kind of life you want in the future, he’ll do everything he can to help you make it happen. His note’s here, read it yourself."

Qian took the note and glanced at it. It really was his handwriting, and it looked rushed, like it had been scribbled in a hurry. If this was an act, it was way too convincing.

Once Nong Yao had handed everything over, he got up to leave. He was planning to head straight to the airport, but then he saw a white silhouette leaning against his car.

"Cat?"

"If you do this, he’ll be mad when he gets back." Mu Hualili was leaning against the car, tossing out a line with no beginning or end, and Nong Yao looked annoyed.

"Mad about what? It was the old man who told me to bring her those things. I followed Master’s orders—how am I wrong?"

"Master only told you to deliver the stuff to her, he didn’t tell you to say all that unnecessary nonsense, did he? Did you tell her that Master might not come back?"

Mu Hualili’s words made Nong Yao freeze. His first reaction was to check himself for bugs—otherwise, how would this cat know what he’d just done?

When he found nothing, he realized he’d been had. The sly cat’s first line had just been bait to trick him!

"You care, so you’re rattled. Right now all you’re thinking about is Master’s safety, and you’ve forgotten the most basic rational thinking. Normally you wouldn’t be this easy to fool. Of course, your reaction was also something I predicted. Based on your personality, there was a ninety percent chance you’d deliberately say it that way just to scare her."

"Since when did you start running your mouth like this?" Nong Yao, having been exposed, simply admitted it outright.

"It’s really not good for a pregnant woman to be stuck in a state of constant worry. If Master finds out you bullied his little darling like that, he definitely won’t let you off."

"He can take it up with me if he makes it back alive. That girl had it coming too. The old man treats her so well, and every time I see how heartless and carefree she looks, I get pissed. Letting her stress out for a few days serves her right."

"True." Mu Hualili smiled faintly.

Even as he said it, Nong Yao was a bit unsure inside. Before coming over, he’d carefully thought through how he should tell Qian about this. He actually had plenty of better ways—ways that wouldn’t hit her so hard. But he chose the cruelest option anyway. Why was that...

Maybe it was just because he couldn’t stand that girl. What’s said is said, no point overthinking it. The top priority now was finding the old man and bringing him back safely.

...

Qian stared blankly at the hard drive, the card, and the note on the table.

Was this another stunt Qio Yu Xuan had orchestrated on purpose to fish for her sympathy?

But her gut told her it wasn’t. Qio Yu Xuan was probably in real danger now—and she was powerless.

Qian got up and paced back and forth, thinking for quite a while before deciding to call him to ask where he was. But the number that had traveled through black and white with her had already been shut off.

A living, breathing person had just vanished like that.

If this was a joke, Qian really wanted to drag that old man out and beat the crap out of him, tell him this joke wasn’t funny at all. Premise being, she could find him.

Because of Qio Yu Xuan, Qian was a bit down, listless every day. After handing over the things to her, Nong Yao had vanished to who knew where. If it weren’t for the card and hard drive Qio Yu Xuan had left her, Qian would’ve suspected she’d had a very long dream, and that no one from Seven-Mu Farm had ever appeared in her life.

That uncomfortable feeling hadn’t been too bad at first, but lately it was growing more and more intense.

Her being so down made Yu Minglang feel lousy too. He was annoyed at his own recent lack of efficiency.

He couldn’t find out what Qio Yu Xuan had gone to do.

He couldn’t find out who had taken Chen Lin away.

The people who were making his wife upset had all conveniently disappeared, and even with Yu Minglang’s reach and connections, he couldn’t track any of them down. The Seven-Mu Farm people had a private jet, so not being able to find them was one thing—but why couldn’t he find Chen Lin either?

Yu Minglang had practically combed through every area around Q City, but there was no trace of Chen Lin, as if she’d evaporated from the world. Chen Lin still needed chemotherapy, so Yu Minglang paid special attention to all the major hospitals’ related records—yet he still couldn’t find anything.

Yu Minglang even began to wonder if Chen Lin had already died somewhere out there and her body had been disposed of or something. Otherwise, how could there be absolutely no news?
