Reverend Insanity : Blood Path
Chapter 92 Fang Yuan Death
Could it be that I, Gu Yue Fang Yuan, am really going to die here today…?
Facing the incoming attack, Fang Yuan gritted his teeth and instinctively tensed his entire body. A full-powered attack from a Rank Two peak stage Gu Master was simply beyond what his current Rank One body could withstand. Worse still, he did not possess even a single defensive Gu. If the attack struck him directly, his mortal body would have no chance of surviving.
Clinging to his final hope, Fang Yuan sent his consciousness deep into his aperture. There, resting at its center, was the greatest trump card he possessed after his rebirth.
Rank Six Immortal Gu, Spring Autumn Cicada!
The cicada resembled a leafhopper, with a brownish-yellow head and abdomen. Tree-ring patterns covered its body, seemingly recording the passage of countless years, while two broad translucent wings rested upon its back like overlapping leaves. Fine vein-like patterns spread across both wings from a thicker line running through their centers.
However, after carrying Fang Yuan through rebirth, the Spring Autumn Cicada had suffered an enormous burden and had yet to recover.
When it had first been successfully refined in his previous life, the Spring Autumn Cicada had been overflowing with vitality. Its body possessed a smooth, warm luster, while its wings were tender green, resembling two freshly sprouted leaves.
Now, it was completely different. Its body had lost all luster and appeared rough and dull like withered wood, while its once-green wings had become yellow and dry like autumn leaves. Even their tips were curled and damaged, resembling fallen leaves that had already begun to decay.
Fang Yuan immediately tried to activate it, intending to make the Spring Autumn Cicada self-destruct and carry him through rebirth once again.
There was no response.
I’m still too weak. With my current cultivation, I don’t even have the ability to activate the Spring Autumn Cicada…
The blood blades struck him in the next instant. Fang Yuan’s body was torn open by the attacks and sent crashing heavily onto the ground. Blood quickly spread beneath him as his consciousness blurred, his body already hovering on the edge of death.
Jia Jinsheng touched his neck, still feeling some lingering fear from Fang Yuan’s earlier attack. The moonblade had severed his windpipe and cut through most of the flesh around his neck. If he had not immediately activated Blood Flow Gu to stop the bleeding and forcibly reconnect the wound, Fang Yuan might truly have killed him.
“Hahaha! You damned brat, Flower Wine Monk’s inheritance is mine! Fate chose me. The final winner is me, Jia Jinsheng!”
Jia Jinsheng laughed loudly before looking down coldly at the dying Fang Yuan. Both of Fang Yuan’s arms and legs had been crippled by the blood blades, leaving him completely unable to resist.
Such a vicious brat could not be allowed to die so easily. Jia Jinsheng wanted Fang Yuan to experience the helplessness of feeling his life slowly slip away. Only then could he vent the anger and lingering fear caused by Fang Yuan nearly killing him earlier.
With a cold laugh, Jia Jinsheng activated his Gu and smashed apart the stone wall before him. What could make Fang Yuan suffer more than watching someone else obtain Flower Wine Monk’s inheritance right before his eyes, while he lay helplessly waiting for death?
After the image left behind by Flower Wine Monk had disappeared, a line of blood-red words had appeared on the wall, instructing whoever came later to break through the image wall and enter the cave hidden behind it. The words soon vanished as well, and with the power of the Image-Retaining Sound Gu completely exhausted, the wall returned to the appearance of an ordinary mountain wall.
Now, Jia Jinsheng was going to break through it and seize the inheritance himself.
Once the wall shattered, however, what appeared behind it was not an open passage. Instead, a thick layer of dark-red soil and mud blocked the way.
“Strange. The soil around Qing Mao Mountain should mostly be blue, but this mud is dark red and even gives off a faint light.” Jia Jinsheng frowned briefly before shaking his head. “Forget it. Jia Gui might notice something unusual if I disappear for too long. I’ll get Flower Wine Monk’s inheritance first and worry about this afterward.”
Not far away, Lin Feng remained concealed as he watched everything unfold. Seeing Fang Yuan lying motionless on the ground, he slowly exhaled, but doubts continued pouring in his mind.
Will it really be this easy?
That isn’t some brainless protagonist lying there. He’s the future Great Love Immortal Venerable, someone caught in the schemes of multiple Venerables and protected by Heaven’s Will. Can he really die this easily, like in those fanfictions I read in my previous life?
Lin Feng’s desire to kill Fang Yuan was certainly real, but eliminating him was not his only purpose. More importantly, Lin Feng wanted to use this opportunity to test exactly how much influence Heaven’s Will and the Venerables could exert upon the world to achieve their goals.
In many Reverend Insanity fanfictions Lin Feng had read in his previous life, killing Fang Yuan had seemed absurdly simple. As long as the transmigrator moved before Fang Yuan grew powerful, they could crush him early and later deal with Spectral Soul as well, as though the plans surrounding Fang Yuan did not exist.
Lin Feng had never truly believed things could be so simple, but there was no harm in testing it himself. If Fang Yuan died, Lin Feng would remove his greatest future competitor and gain access to countless opportunities. If Fang Yuan somehow survived, Lin Feng might glimpse the hidden arrangements protecting him. Either outcome would give him something valuable.
Yet despite Lin Feng watching closely for any unexpected change, Fang Yuan remained sprawled on the ground after suffering from Jia Jinsheng’s blood blades. His injuries were severe, his limbs crippled, and his life rapidly fading away.
Nothing happened. It almost seemed as though the great existences manipulating events from behind the scenes were perfectly willing to watch this insignificant ant struggle against their arrangements and then die.
