Reverend Insanity : Blood Path
Chapter 93 In The End I Still Failed
With death already approaching, Fang Yuan’s emotions were strangely calm. There was no worry, no discontent and no regret.
When he first chose this path, he had already expected that such a situation might arise. Now that it had truly come, there was nothing more he could do. He had already done everything within his power.
The difference between a Rank One Gu Master and a Rank Two peak stage Gu Master could not be erased by shouting a few passionate words or suddenly producing some miraculous treasure capable of killing an enemy several ranks above him. Fang Yuan was not the protagonist of some cheap novel, surrounded by endless advantages and miraculous opportunities that would save him whenever he reached a dead end.
He was simply someone who had lived for more than five hundred years and still chose to pursue eternal life.
“If I were given another chance, I would still choose to live this way. Hehehe… so be it. My journey through this Gu world ends here. Although I did not leave behind any biography or inheritance, but…that doesn’t matter.”
As his life rapidly slipped away, Fang Yuan remained tranquil. He even felt somewhat happy. If his body still possessed enough strength, the corners of his lips would probably have curled into a smile.
Since ancient times, no one had escaped death. Mortals died, Gu Immortals died, and even the mighty Venerables eventually disappeared beneath the passage of time.
Dying while pursuing one’s goal—what regrets could he possibly have?
“Hehehe… Hmm?”
Fang Yuan’s faint laughter abruptly stopped.
Bang!
Jia Jinsheng suddenly flew backward from the passage and smashed heavily against the ground. Blood poured from his seven orifices, his bones were shattered, his tendons torn, and much of his flesh had been mangled beyond recognition. He rolled several times before finally stopping like a broken sack.
Immediately afterward, a bloody hand reached out from the darkness and gripped the edge of the shattered stone wall.
“Who is it?!”
A towering corpse slowly emerged from the passage.
It stood nearly three meters tall, with a shriveled body covered in exposed dark-red muscle. Its face was equally horrifying. No skin remained over its nose, leaving only two bloody holes, while its mouth stretched unnaturally wide toward its ears and revealed rows of needle-like teeth. Blood-red hair hung around its head, and within its deeply sunken eye sockets burned two faint lights resembling dying embers.
The most striking features were the enormous black bat wings growing from its back. Countless blood vessels crawled across their surfaces, constantly writhing beneath the thin membrane.
Fang Yuan’s expression changed drastically the moment he saw it.
Rank Five Blood Wight Gu! Is that Flower Wine Monk? Could the inheritance have been a trap from the beginning? No… this feeling is strange. Could his true identity be…
Fang Yuan had once been a Rank Six Blood Path Gu Immortal, so he naturally recognized the creature before him. He was already seventy to eighty percent certain about its identity.
There were many methods in the Gu world capable of extending a person’s life. Lifespan Gu was the most orthodox and desirable method, but it was far from the only one. Some Gu Masters instead relied upon unorthodox methods that allowed them to continue existing at a terrible cost.
Wandering Zombie Gu was one such method. Prolonged use slowly transformed the Gu Master into a zombie. As long as sufficient blood was regularly consumed, the transformed Gu Master could continue moving and survive far beyond an ordinary lifespan.
Blood Wight Gu was one of the Rank Five advancements of Wandering Zombie Gu and belonged among the famous Five Great Flying Zombies, alongside Asura Zombie Gu, Heavenly Demon Zombie Gu, Nightmare Zombie Gu, and Plague Zombie Gu. In truth, there was also a sixth flying zombie, the Earth Demon Zombie Gu, which could manipulate geomagnetic force to fly, but for certain reasons its existence remained largely unknown.
Before Fang Yuan could continue thinking, the Blood Demon Corpse suddenly turned its head away from Jia Jinsheng and stared directly toward the place where Lin Feng was hiding.
Its enormous mouth opened, exposing rows of sharp teeth. “You nameless rat… you dare hide nearby and spy on me? Die!”
The voice did not come from its mouth. Its throat had long since rotted during its prolonged slumber, forcing it to speak directly from its abdomen.
Lin Feng’s expression barely changed, but his heart sank. Damn it! I knew those fanfictions were nonsense. Is Fang Yuan really this difficult to kill? The moment he’s about to die, a Rank Five monster crawls out of the ground? If Great Love Immortal Venerable were that easy to eliminate, Star Constellation, Spectral Soul, or even Fairy Zi Wei would have finished him off long ago.
Still, Lin Feng quickly suppressed his shock. His opponent might be Rank Five and cultivate Blood Path, but Lin Feng still possessed several trump cards. The situation had become dangerous, but it had not yet escaped his control.
Before he could act, however, the ground beneath him suddenly exploded. An enormous blood-red python burst from the earth and swallowed Lin Feng whole before he could evade. Its smooth body was covered in crimson scales, while its elephant-sized head possessed reddish-gold bone spikes around its brows and eyes, giving it an exceptionally fierce appearance.
Rank Five Blood Path Gu, Blood River Python!
The Blood Demon Corpse watched silently as the enormous python swallowed Lin Feng. A short while later, however, the Blood River Python suddenly twisted violently before transforming into a streak of blood-red light and fleeing into the distance.
The corpse gave a cold snort. “Couldn’t digest him? Hmph. He has some ability, but he’s only struggling to survive. I refuse to believe he can overcome my Rank Five Blood River Python.”
Its gaze then fell upon the dying Fang Yuan, and surprise flashed through its dim eyes. “This aura… a descendant of the Gu Yue Clan? No, it’s more than that. He carries my bloodline.”
It examined Fang Yuan’s broken body and muttered, “This little fellow is already at death’s door. What a waste.”
