Chapter 268: Southern Border

Several minutes passed before the crimson flames around Lin Yan gradually thinned. The end of Western Desert's regional wall had finally appeared.

Beyond it stood another enormous regional wall stretching between heaven and earth. Purple-black miasma churned endlessly within it, forming dense layers of poisonous mist that blocked everything beyond.

Lin Yan slowed slightly as he approached it. Flame Sovereign's Assimilation had allowed him to cross Western Desert's blazing regional wall with relative ease, but the environment ahead was completely different.

Once he entered the miasma regional wall, that advantage would disappear.

However, Lin Yan still had another method. He activated Transform Fire Immortal Gu, forcibly transforming the poison-attributed heaven and earth qi entering his immortal aperture into Flame Path heaven and earth qi, then used Fire Escape Immortal Gu to continue forward.

This method was far more difficult than crossing the blazing regional wall. Without Flame Sovereign's Assimilation concealing his dao marks, Lin Yan had to endure the full suppression of the miasma regional wall while continuously transforming the foreign heaven and earth qi entering his aperture. His immortal essence was consumed rapidly, and the violent conflict between the two types of heaven and earth qi caused cracks to spread throughout Flame Sovereign Blessed Land. Even the Fire Veins began trembling under the strain, forcing Lin Yan to slow down and devote part of his attention to maintaining them.

By the time Lin Yan finally crossed the miasma regional wall, several mortal resource points had been damaged and large stretches of terrain had been torn apart. Fortunately, the Fire Veins had endured the entire crossing, and none of his important resource points suffered serious damage.

Green mountains and winding rivers immediately entered his sight. Moist water vapor filled the air, while pale mist drifted between the lush mountains below. After spending so long among the vast deserts of Western Desert, the scenery before him felt completely different.

"So this is the Southern Border."

The Southern Border was not his destination this time, but only a region he needed to pass through. His true destination was the Eastern Sea, so Lin Yan intended to cross the Southern Border as quickly as possible without unnecessary delays.

Unfortunately, the Southern Border contained numerous opportunities that Lin Yan knew about.

The Rank Eight Qi Path Ascension True Inheritance was hidden within Rotten Mud Mountain. Among its treasures was Qi Escape Immortal Gu, ranked third on the Ten great mystical Gu, as well as Hu Land, a Rank Nine secluded domain of heaven and earth.

Qi Jue Grotto Heaven contained Xi Land, another Rank Nine secluded domain of heaven and earth. Hu Land and Xi Land complemented one another, and either one alone possessed tremendous value to a Qi Path Gu Immortal.

There were other inheritances as well. Corpse Emperor Yu Ding Tian had left behind a Rank Eight Enslavement Path true inheritance. Fire Thunder Divine Lord's Rank Eight inheritance was hidden along Fire Thunder River. Tao Zhu's Rank Eight true inheritance remained within the Five Regional Mountain Range, while San Cha Mountain contained the Three Kings Inheritance

Any one of these opportunities could bring Lin Yan enormous gains, but the inheritances themselves were not the main reason he hesitated.

Southern Border was one of Shadow Sect's main strongholds.

Spectral Soul Demon Venerable remained within the Door of Life and Death, but his split souls had already spread throughout the five regions under different identities. Shadow Sect also controlled the ten Ten Extreme Physique immortal zombies, along with numerous Rank Six and Rank Seven Gu Immortals. More importantly, they had spent countless years establishing hidden arrangements throughout the Southern Border. Lin Yan knew many of them from his previous life, but there was no guarantee that he knew everything.

Shadow Sect was not the only danger. Heaven's Will existed everywhere, while arrangements left by several Venerables were also scattered throughout the Southern Border. Some opportunities that appeared ownerless were actually pieces of plans laid down long before the current era.

Lin Yan did not believe that his present Wisdom Path methods were enough to freely interfere with such arrangements. Hiding from ordinary Wisdom Path Gu Immortals was one thing. Dealing with Heaven's Will, Shadow Sect, or methods left behind by Venerables was completely different.

During those five hundred years, his Dream Path attainment had reached an extraordinary level. Even when encountering arrangements left by Venerables, he had possessed methods to investigate them and protect himself. Yet the will sent back through time had still lost nearly all information concerning the future course of the world, and among the memories that survived were repeated warnings that even his own memories could no longer be fully trusted.

Lin Yan had always taken those warnings seriously. He therefore began eliminating the most dangerous opportunities one by one.
