Role Stealer: The Script Executioner
Chapter 48: The King of Shadows
The descent into the heart of the Ivory Citadel was no longer a walk; it was a plunge into a nightmare. As Arthur moved, the very air around him seemed to scream, torn apart by the clashing pressures of holy light and abyssal darkness. The crystalline walls were shattering, not from physical impact, but from the sheer weight of the energy radiating from the bottom of the fortress.
Arthur didn’t run. He flickered. With every step, he vanished and reappeared dozens of meters ahead, leaving trails of black mist that hissed like serpents.
When he reached the Core Chamber, the sight was staggering.
The massive Mana Crystal, the heart of the floor, was being choked by a storm of violet lightning. In the center of that storm stood Alaric. The former Prince was no longer human. His armor had fused with his flesh, turning into jagged, obsidian plates. His cape was a living shadow that lashed out at the air, and his sword, the Sun-Reaper, was wreathed in a flame so dark it seemed to swallow the light.
"You’re late, Porter," Alaric growled, his voice a guttural roar that shook the foundations of the room.
He didn’t wait for a reply. Alaric lunged.
The ground beneath him exploded as he broke the sound barrier. A streak of violet fire tore through the air, aimed directly at Arthur’s heart. The speed was so great that the Gold-Rank party, watching from the doorway, couldn’t even see the movement—only the destruction it left behind.
Clang!
The sound was deafening, like two planets colliding.
Arthur hadn’t moved. He hadn’t even drawn a weapon. He had caught the Sun-Reaper—a blade capable of cutting through dragon scales—with two fingers.
A shockwave of black and violet energy erupted from the point of contact, blowing out every crystalline window in the chamber and sending the knights flying backward. Arthur’s white hair whipped violently in the wind, but his eyes, glowing with a cold, hollow blue behind his mask, remained fixed on Alaric.
"Is this it?" Arthur asked, his voice a low, terrifying whisper that cut through the roar of the storm. "Is this the ’Hero’s Power’ you were so proud of?"
Alaric’s eyes widened. "Impossible! I have the core’s blessing! I am the strongest on this floor!"
"The strongest?" Arthur’s hand tightened on the blade.
*Crack.*
The legendary sword began to splinter.
"You’re playing with power you don’t understand, Alaric. You think the darkness chose you? You’re just a vessel. I... am the Void itself."
Arthur released the blade and struck. It wasn’t a punch; it was a localized collapse of space. His fist hit Alaric’s chest plate, and the sound of shattering metal echoed like a thunderclap. The Prince was sent flying across the room, smashing through three reinforced pillars before slamming into the Core Crystal.
The entire Citadel groaned. The fortress tilted at a forty-five-degree angle, beginning its final, terminal descent toward the forest below.
Alaric stood up, his body wreathed in a desperate, suicidal aura. "I’ll take you with me! I’ll burn this world to ash!"
He raised his hands, and the violet lightning from the core began to converge into a massive, spinning sphere above his head. The pressure was so intense that the ground beneath Arthur began to sink, turning into dust.
"Die!" Alaric screamed, hurling the sun-sized orb of destruction.
Arthur didn’t flinch. He reached out with his left hand, and the shadows beneath his feet began to boil. Thousands of black, ethereal chains erupted from the ground, weaving together to form a massive, clawed hand made of pure void.
The Void Hand met the violet sun mid-air.
For a heartbeat, the world went silent. Then, the hand simply *crushed* the sphere. The violet energy didn’t explode; it was consumed, sucked into the darkness of Arthur’s palm until nothing was left but a faint, lingering spark.
Arthur was suddenly in front of Alaric. No one saw him move. He was just *there*.
He grabbed Alaric by the throat and lifted him off the ground. The Prince’s dark flames flickered and died, suppressed by the overwhelming presence of the man in the mask.
"Authority of the Architect," Arthur whispered. "Silence."
A wave of absolute darkness exploded from Arthur. It swept through the chamber, through the fortress, and out into the Silver Forest. For three seconds, every living thing on the 11th Floor lost their senses. No sound, no sight, no feeling. Only the cold, heavy weight of Arthur’s will.
When the light returned, Alaric was gone. In his place was a small, blackened stone—a soul-gem containing the remains of the fallen hero.
Arthur turned to the cracked Core Crystal. It was leaking raw, unstable mana, threatening to vaporize everything.
"Stay back," Arthur commanded the knights who were trying to approach.
He placed his hand on the crystal. The energy surged into him, turning his veins black and causing his mask to crack further. He didn’t use a command; he used raw, unadulterated force. He grabbed the mana with his will and bent it, forcing the wild energy back into the crystal’s lattice.
"Obey," Arthur growled.
The crystal flared with a blinding, monochromatic light—a mix of pure white and abyssal black. The cracks sealed. The humming stabilized. The Ivory Citadel, which had been seconds away from crashing, suddenly locked into place, hovering majestically above the forest.
Arthur stood there, his hand still on the crystal, his breath heavy. His F-Rank body was screaming in agony, blood trickling from beneath his mask, but he didn’t fall.
He turned his head slowly to look at Kael and Sarah. The Gold-Rank adventurers were trembling, their weapons lowered. They didn’t see a Porter anymore. They didn’t even see a human.
They saw a King.
"The floor is ours," Arthur said, his voice cold and final. "Collect the loot. We leave for the 12th Floor at dawn."
[Notification: Floor 11 Conquered.]
[Achievement: ’The One Who Stands Above the Script’.]
[Hidden Reward: Void King’s Mantle unlocked.]
Arthur looked up at the ceiling, his gaze piercing through the layers of the Tower toward the distant, hidden floors where the ’Company’ resided.
"Your move," he whispered.
