Chapter 1022: Chapter 1007: Ambushed (Part 3)

While speaking, Old Xu actually put on a serious face, raising three fingers in a swearing pose.

Even though the earring guy had some doubts about Old Xu’s words, his arrogant nature and recent successes had made him forget the most basic rule of the apocalypse: the strong prey on the weak.

Indeed, in the post-apocalyptic world, nothing is absolute. Like right now, although the earring guy’s team seems to have an absolute advantage, they are no match for the Survivor Team in terms of potential strength.

"Hmph, why should I believe what you’re saying is true? Aren’t you planning to trick me into going over there and then play dirty with me?"

To be fair, the earring guy was somewhat cautious.

But Old Xu seemed indifferent to this, continuing to fabricate a story, "Brother, given the situation, how could I possibly deceive you? If you don’t believe me... how about this, I’ll go back with you, and the others will stay behind. That should be okay, right?"

The earring guy scrutinized Old Xu’s eyes for a while, trying to find something in his gaze.

But who is Old Xu? The experiences he’s been through and the hellish training he’s endured couldn’t be matched by a young punk under 20 years old.

Old Xu maintained his initial look of fear and showed no signs of suspicion.

Fear really is the best disguise. Seeing Old Xu’s cowardly, terrified demeanor, the earring guy felt both proud of his intimidating authority and pleased with the imminent haul of supplies.

"Fine! I’ll give you a chance, but let me be clear, you stay here, and I’ll send someone with him to your base. If anything goes wrong, hmph." He pointed at Luo Baochun and then waved the 54 in his hand, making it clear that if Xu Renjie dared to play him, he’d make sure Xu’s head would roll.

"No, no problem!" Old Xu’s intention was to dispel the earring guy’s concerns, so he compliantly agreed to whatever the earring guy said.

However, just as the two were "talking happily," the blond man inspecting the car shouted angrily, "Damn it, a bunch of paupers, there’s hardly anything in the car! Brother Hu, this deal’s a bust!"

The earring guy furrowed his brows slightly, and seeing this, Old Xu quickly explained, "Brother, we came out this time just to get oil. We planned to leave and return the same day, so we didn’t bring much in the car."

It made sense, the earring guy thought. Anyway, as long as I have you in hand, I’m not afraid of any tricks.

So, he abandoned the idea of taking out Old Xu and his team on the spot.

"How far is your base from here?"

"Not very far, about an hour’s drive. Brother, if you’re going, you’d better bring more vehicles; otherwise, there are too many supplies in the warehouse, and a small car won’t fit them all. Uh... you’re welcome to stay if you want, but it’s not suitable for living there, especially in the extreme cold or heat of winter and summer."

Old Xu spoke so earnestly that the earring guy grew increasingly convinced by what he said. He sneered twice, "I don’t need you to tell me what to do. You guys, tie them up for me. And you! Lead the way later, we’re going to your base!"

With the earring guy’s order, the four thugs at the gas station, wielding knives and clubs, advanced towards Wang Qiang and the others.

Seeing that the guards on the top floor of the toll booth weren’t moving, Old Xu knew he had to act ahead of schedule.

He subtly signaled to Lei Tong and Hua Biao.

The two seemed to have anticipated that Old Xu would make a move, so they had kept their eyes on him the entire time.

As soon as Old Xu turned his head, Hua Biao and Lei exchanged glances with him immediately.

Years of cooperative action allowed the three to communicate without words. By Old Xu’s eye signal, Lei Tong would handle the guards on the top floor of the toll booth.

And Hua Biao would take care of the remaining threats.

As for the earring guy, naturally, it fell to Old Xu, the closest, to deal with him personally.

An imminent hidden assault was about to unfold without the earring guy’s side noticing a thing.

As long as those two guns on the other side were neutralized, everything would fall into place.

However, resolving the two gunmen at once was understandably difficult.

Moreover, the critical point was that the resolution process had to be simultaneous; in other words, Old Xu and Lei Tong needed to act at nearly the same time to deal with their targets.

Only this way could they completely avoid the threat of the opponent firing a gun.

Fortunately, Old Xu and Lei Tong both hailed from a military background; years of rigorous training granted them combat abilities far beyond the ordinary.

As the situation was set, and with Old Xu and his team’s "cooperation," including the earring guy, almost all the thugs believed that the Survivor Team before them was no different from the former teams they had encountered—just a bunch of cowards who feared death and sought to protect themselves.

So their vigilance slackened, and the earring guy even lit a cigarette to puff on.

Opportunities missed won’t come again. Old Xu felt the timing was ripe.

He glanced towards Lei Tong and Hua Biao, not far away, waiting for the signal, and blinked twice.

This action also caught Hu Xiaodong’s and others’ eyes.

"Ahem!" Old Xu cleared his throat twice.

The earring guy instinctively raised an eyebrow, and just as he lifted his head, a large hand suddenly lunged at him.

The earring guy instinctively stepped back, raising his gun-bearing right hand.

But how could Old Xu, who was prepared, give him the chance to shoot? Like a leopard pouncing on prey, Old Xu surged forward.

His right hand gripped the earring guy’s throat while his left hand twisted the earring guy’s wrist holding the gun backward.

In pain, the earring guy’s grip loosened, and the 54 pistol fell with a crisp "bang."

The commotion Old Xu caused naturally caught the attention of the other thugs, but his actions were so fast that they stood dumbfounded, clearly unresponsive to Old Xu’s sudden change.

Indeed! A man who initially appeared to be an honest, cowardly fool suddenly turned into a master gun-grabber.

Such a plot twist could only leave them shocked.

Finally, after several seconds of dazed confusion, the thug standing atop the toll booth was the first to regain his senses.

Realizing something was amiss, he raised his gun to shoot, only to feel a sharp pain in his chest before he even lifted the muzzle. His entire body then collapsed lifelessly like a withered tree.

A small hole appeared in his chest.

Lei Tong had fired almost the instant Old Xu lunged forward.

With the sound of gunfire, Hu Xiaodong and the others immediately acted against the thugs around them.

Standing at 1.8 meters, Wang Qiang seemed like a giant in front of the thugs. A small man, about 1.6 meters, staggered backward after taking a heavy punch.

Wei Dazhuang, needless to say, was the worst for the blond thug he faced, being lifted single-handedly by Dazhuang, slapped multiple times, and then thrown to the ground. (To be continued.
