Rotting Land: Survive
Chapter 1023 - 1008: Old Xu’s Transformation
Chapter 1023: Chapter 1008: Old Xu’s Transformation
The thug who got locked onto by Hua Biao had it even worse—he didn’t even see the guy move before his vision went black and he passed out cold.
By comparison, the only one who got off easy was the guy standing next to Tang Xiaoquan. After all, when it came to actual brawling, Tang Xiaoquan wasn’t really in the same league as the others.
But even if Tang Xiaoquan was weaker, that was only compared to Old Xu and the rest.
In reality, with Tang Xiaoquan’s skills, in the apocalypse he was far from useless.
He’d been through just as many life-or-death scrapes as anyone else, so dealing with the punks in front of him was no problem.
Just like that, in less than a minute, the earring guy’s crew, who’d held all the advantage, got flipped by the Survivor Team.
Right now, except for the guy Tang Xiaoquan had "taken care of" who was still barely standing, the rest were all down on the ground. As for that poor bastard on top of the toll station, he’d already croaked and gone to report to King Yama.
The earring guy lay on the ground gasping hard, he just couldn’t believe what had just happened.
But the sharp pain in his throat and the agony in his wrist forced him to face reality.
Only, the earring guy clearly didn’t plan on giving up yet. Using his panting as cover, he picked a moment, bent forward, and reached for the dropped Type 54.
Too bad his hand hadn’t even touched the grip before Old Xu’s foot came stomping down from above.
"Ah!" A shrill scream tore out of him as the earring guy’s face twisted in an instant.
No doubt, Old Xu had put everything into that stomp. After his foot came down, he even ground it in on purpose, making the earring guy wish he were dead.
"My hand! My hand! You—fuck—hurry up and let go of me!"
"What!? What did you say!? Who the hell are you calling ’me’?" With the upper hand completely his, Old Xu’s eyes flashed cold and sharp.
"You motherf—... ah,"
"I’ll ask you one more time—who’s ’me’!?"
"Crack!" A thin splintering of bone. Tormented by the pain, the earring guy didn’t dare talk back anymore. He hurriedly begged for mercy: "Y-you’re ’me’, you’re ’me’! Please, let go, I’m begging you, please let go."
Old Xu had no interest in dragging it out with this coward who only bullied the weak. Using this kind of torture on him was honestly beneath the Sharp Blade Company’s standards.
But right now these bastards really pissed him off—especially after the Yuhuan Gymnasium incident, he had a deep, irrational disgust for scoundrels who got their kicks out of robbing and abusing people in the apocalypse.
"You wanna live or die?" Expressionless, Old Xu squatted down and grabbed the earring guy’s mohawk.
The earring guy had never seen eyes this murderous before. Under Old Xu’s gaze he felt like he couldn’t breathe, and even the pain from his shattered finger bones seemed to vanish for a moment.
"I wanna live!" The earring guy blurted out without hesitation.
"Good. Next, I ask, you answer. No bullshit, no lies. Otherwise... that over there will be what happens to you." Old Xu picked up the handgun on the ground and pointed toward the toll station not far away.
The thug lying there still bleeding out was more than enough to make Old Xu’s stance crystal clear.
So, still without the slightest hesitation, the earring guy again answered quickly: "I—I won’t say anything extra, I’ll answer honestly, I swear."
"Good. First question: how many of you are there?"
"Not that many, don’t worry, we... ah!"
A scream ripped out as Old Xu opened up a cut deep in the earring guy’s right thigh with his knife.
"I told you—answer the question. No useless crap."
"Y-yes, yes!" In his heart the earring guy cursed Old Xu’s entire ancestral line, but even so he only dared do that in his head. Out loud he hurried to respond: "There’s fifteen of us in total."
"Fifteen? So where are the rest? There’s only six here—where are the other nine? Nearby somewhere?"
Lei Tong and the other Survivors heard every word of Old Xu’s conversation with the earring guy.
Hu Xiaodong instantly raised his bow, eyes hard as he scanned the surroundings.
"N-no, no, no, they’re not here. It’s just the six of us at this spot." Afraid Old Xu would get pissed, the earring guy rushed to add.
"If they’re not here, then where are they?"
"At our base."
"Where’s your base?"
"In the city."
"How far?"
"About five, six kilometers."
"Really?"
"Absolutely really."
Question and answer came fast; Old Xu didn’t give the earring guy any time to think.
In other words, most of what the guy said was probably true.
"Good. Second question: how long’ve you been pulling this shit?"
"Uh... not that lo..." The word "long" hadn’t even come out yet when the earring guy saw Old Xu’s fingers touch the knife hilt. He instantly realized his mistake and stammered out a correction: "Over two months—we’ve been at this over two months."
"Hnh. Harvest’s been good, huh? Robbed a lot of people, yeah?"
"T-ten or so jobs, I don’t really know the exact number."
"Third question: where’d you get the gun?"
"Found it on the road, about three months ago, in a police car by the roadside. Two cops had been bitten by Zombies—we took it off their bodies."
"Last question. You’re gonna take us to your base—are you willing?" As he said this, Old Xu deliberately brushed his hand along the Type 54.
Seeing that motion, the earring guy didn’t dare spit out a single "no." He was just a bit curious why these people wanted to go to his place. Could it be that they were also...
Thinking of that possibility, a hint of misery crept over the earring guy’s face.
A raider himself, and in the end he runs into another crew of raiders.
The way this plot was unfolding was just a bit...
"I—I’m willing!"
To stay alive, the earring guy had no choice.
He wasn’t stupid. He knew that if he said no, they could just have someone else from his group lead the way.
He had no desire to be the sacrifice that lets others hit the road.
On top of that, the earring guy had other ideas.
After all, his people back home still had fighting strength, and they outnumbered this Survivor Team. As long as he played it right, he might still have a chance to turn the tables.
Old Xu was no fool; of course he understood what the earring guy was thinking.
But right now he had other matters to deal with, so he didn’t bother paying the guy any more attention.
"Old Xu, you really plan to let that punk take us to their base?"
Hu Xiaodong had heard Old Xu’s last demand. He wouldn’t verbally oppose Old Xu’s decision, but he still had his doubts.
These guys were all scum, and heading to their base could easily go sideways.
Plus, they had guns and men—if it came down to a fight, the outcome was anyone’s guess.
But Old Xu was clearly set on this. He didn’t waste a single word, just gave a terse reply: "These bastards have been squatting here robbing people for ages. With that many of them, their place is bound to have a stockpile of supplies. We came out here for supplies in the first place, and now the chance is right in front of us—no reason not to go."
With that said, Old Xu called everyone over. (To be continued. If you like this work, you’re welcome to go to Qidian (qidian.com) to vote for recommendations and monthly tickets. Your support is my biggest motivation. Mobile users please go to m.qidian.com to read.)
