Chapter 180: Chapter 0180: I’m Free

Elena’s Point Of View

I didn’t answer him. I couldn’t. My heart pounded a wild, erratic beat against my ribs at his words, and something warm and unfamiliar stirred beneath the fear still clinging to my skin. It had been so long since anyone fought for me that I’d forgotten what it felt like to be wanted rather than owned.

The grand foyer stretched out before us, the pristine marble floors gleaming under the massive crystal chandelier. But the picture-perfect luxury of the Sinclair estate lay completely shattered by the scene unfolding in the living room.

Graham stood near the grand fireplace, his face ghostly pale, his dark eyes wide with a terrifying mix of shock, rage, and sudden horror. Three of his private estate security guards groaned on the floor near the entrance, knocked out cold by Roman’s team.

Beside Graham stood his mother, Matilda, her lips pressed into a thin, venomous line, her face flushed red with aristocratic indignation. Hovering behind them both was Lilian, pathetic and sniveling, clutching a silk throw pillow against her stomach as if it could shield her from the storm that had just breached their sanctuary.

The moment Graham’s eyes landed on me walking down the stairs flanked by armed mercenaries, his face twisted into a snarl.

"Elena!" Graham bellowed, stepping forward, his voice cracking with panicked authority. "What the hell is the meaning of this? Who the fuck are these men, Elena?"

I didn’t slow my pace. I walked off the bottom step, my heels clicking loudly against the polished marble, my gaze locked onto his with pure, unadulterated hatred.

"Elena, answer me!" Graham demanded, his voice rising as he tried desperately to reassert the control he’d held over me for six long years. "Did you bring thugs into my home? Who is this man standing next to you?"

I didn’t answer him with words.

The moment I closed the distance between us, my arm swung back. Before he could react, before he could raise a hand to shield himself, my open palm lashed across his face with every ounce of strength left in my body.

Crack!

The sound of my hand striking his cheek echoed through the silent foyer like a gunshot. The force of the blow snapped his head violently to the side and sent him stumbling back two full steps. A sharp, searing pain shot through my already bruised, bloody knuckles, but I didn’t care. I barely felt it. The sheer, primitive satisfaction of seeing him grunt in pain outweighed every drop of physical discomfort.

"Elena!" Matilda shrieked in horror, clutching her chest. "You insane, ungrateful bitch! How dare you strike my son in his own house!"

"Shut up, Matilda," I spat, not even looking at her, keeping my eyes locked onto Graham as he touched his reddening cheek, staring at me in utter disbelief.

"I am not your toy, Graham." My voice came out as a low, lethal snarl, each word delivered like a dagger to his pathetic ego. "I am not your fragile little secret to hide away, and I am sure as hell not your property to lock in a room when I refuse to obey you."

"Elena... please." Graham’s voice trembled as he took a tentative step toward me, his hands reaching out. "You don’t understand. I locked the door because I was desperate. I couldn’t let you walk away. I love you..."

"You don’t love me!" I screamed, the sound tearing raw from my lungs, vibrating off the high walls. "You never loved me! You loved having a quiet, obedient wife who cooked your meals, tolerated your icy mother, and took painful hormone injections in silence while you screwed your ’cousin’ in the guest wing!"

I took another aggressive step toward him, forcing him to back up against the marble mantlepiece.

"You don’t own me, Graham. You never owned me." My voice shook with pure, unfiltered fury. "You thought that because I was quiet, because I loved you, I was weak. You thought you could break me down until I accepted your sick, twisted arrangement."

Graham’s face twisted into something ugly, his pathetic pleading suddenly evaporating as his fragile male pride took over.

"You think you’re just going to walk out of here with these street thugs?" Graham snarled, his eyes darkening as he raised his hand forcefully to grab my shoulder. "You are my wife! You belong in this house, and you will stay until..."

"I wouldn’t finish that motion if I were you, pal."

Roman’s voice cut through the air like a slab of sub-zero arctic ice.

Before Graham’s fingers could even brush the fabric of my dress, Roman stepped smoothly into the space between us. His massive, towering frame completely blocked Graham from my sight. In one lightning-fast movement, Roman grabbed Graham by the throat, his gloved fingers pinning the smaller man effortlessly against the marble mantle.

The sickening sound of Graham gasping for air filled the foyer as his feet lifted an inch off the ground.

"Touch her again," Roman whispered softly, leaning in close so his bright green eyes were inches from Graham’s terrified face, "and I will tear your arm out of its socket and beat you to death with the wet end of it. Do you understand me, little man?"

Graham’s hands clawed frantically at Roman’s iron grip, his face turning a deep, dangerous shade of purple as he nodded frantically.

"Roman, stop," I said quietly, my voice icy and calm. "He isn’t worth the stain on your gloves."

Roman glanced back at me, a wolfish grin spreading across his face. "You heard the lady," he purred, abruptly releasing his grip.

Graham collapsed onto the floor in a pathetic heap, clutching his throat, coughing violently as he gasped for oxygen.

"You pathetic, disgusting excuse for a man," I said, looking down at him as he knelt at my feet. "I spent six years wondering what was wrong with me. I spent six years tearing myself apart, crying myself to sleep, praying to God to make me enough for you."

I let out a bitter, broken laugh that scraped my throat raw.

"I don’t even know what twisted illusion I saw in you that made me fall for you in the first place. But now? Looking at you right now, bleeding on your own floor, I see exactly what you are. A weak, cowardly boy hiding behind his mother’s skirt."

Matilda stepped forward again, her face contorted with pure rage as she pushed past the sofa. "Where do you think you’re going, you ungrateful little whore?" she hissed, her fingernails curling like talons as she reached out to grab my hair. "You came into this family with nothing! You leave with nothing!"

I didn’t hesitate for a single second.

As Matilda lunged at me, I stepped into her path and shoved her with every ounce of momentum I had. My hands slammed directly into her shoulders.

"Get your filthy hands off me!" I roared.

The force of the shove sent the older woman stumbling backward out of control. Her high heels caught on the edge of the Persian rug, and she crashed heavily onto the plush velvet sofa with an embarrassing shriek, her manicured hands waving uselessly in the air as she landed in a heap of silk, pearls, and utter humiliation.

I whipped my head toward Lilian, who cowered behind the armchair, trembling like a leaf. My eyes locked onto hers, burning with terrifying heat.

"You wanna go next, Lilian?" I spat, taking a step toward her. "You want to talk about what you took from my house?"

Lilian gasped, dropping her throw pillow, scrambling backward until her spine hit the wall, her hands raised in utter surrender as tears spilled over her cheeks. She was too terrified to utter a single word.

I turned back toward the grand double doors of the estate, my chest heaving, my chin held high, my spirit entirely reclaimed.

"Roman," I said, my voice ringing out clear and resonant in the quiet room. "Let’s go."

"After you, boss lady," Roman replied with a dramatic, sweeping bow, his hand resting casually on the butt of his holstered firearm as he shielded my back.

I walked toward the heavy front doors. My hand reached out, my fingers wrapping around the cool, solid brass handle. The metallic chill bit into my blood-stained skin, grounding me, reminding me that the nightmare was officially over. I pressed down on the latch and pulled the door open.

"Expect the divorce papers on your desk by tomorrow morning, Graham." My voice came out ice-cold, echoing through the grand foyer like a definitive death knell.

I paused on the threshold, turning my head just enough to let my razor-sharp gaze sweep over all three of them... Graham choking on the floor, Matilda struggling to sit up on the couch, Lilian cowering in the corner.

"And if you dare try anything funny?" I let the silence hang heavy in the air, thick with a lethal promise. "Remember what I told you in the bedroom, Graham. If you ever come near me again, I’ll kill you myself."

Without waiting for a response, I stepped through the doors.

They slammed shut behind me with a loud, final, irrevocable thud, closing the Chapter on six years of agony, betrayal, and emotional imprisonment.

The warm afternoon sun hit my face, bright and glorious, washing over my skin like a sacred baptism. I closed my eyes for a brief second, taking a massive, deep breath, filling my lungs with clean, crisp air that didn’t taste like fear, didn’t taste like desperation, and didn’t taste like Graham Vance. Something inside me, long buried under years of quiet suffering, finally began to unclench.

I was free.

I walked down the grand stone steps, flanked by Roman and his men, gravel crunching beneath my shoes. Waiting at the end of the long driveway, sitting just past the crushed security gates, was a sleek, matte-black SUV. Somewhere behind that tinted glass, I knew, was the man who had torn his entire world apart just to come find me.

I let the words settle into my bones, savoring every syllable.

"I’m free."
