Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings
Chapter 380: The Morning Of The Ritual
Dawn came too quickly.
Elena stood in the center of the large ritual room watching the sunrise through the eastern windows and felt the weight of what was about to happen settle onto her shoulders.
Today, Lilith would attempt to transform a divine curse into personal power.
Today, they would find out if love and determination and raw magical talent were enough to break fate.
Today, someone would either live or die.
Elena had been preparing the ritual space since four in the morning. Drawing circles. Placing crystals. Weaving protective wards. Everything had to be perfect or the transformation would fail before it even began.
The room was large, formerly a ballroom before the estate was damaged in Thalia’s attack. All furniture had been removed. The floor had been cleaned and blessed. The windows had been covered with heavy curtains to block out distractions.
And in the center of it all, a massive ritual circle drawn in white salt and silver dust.
Three rings, one inside the other.
The outer ring: protective wards to contain any magical backlash.
The middle ring: amplification symbols to strengthen Lilith’s power.
The inner ring: transformation sigils drawn in a pattern Elena had found in her family’s oldest texts.
At the very center: a space for Lilith to lie down. Flat on her back. Vulnerable. Exposed to the magic that would either save her or kill her.
Elena walked the circles one more time, checking every line, every symbol, every carefully placed component.
Moonstones at the cardinal points for clarity.
Obsidian at the intercardinal points for death magic resonance.
Clear quartz scattered throughout for power amplification.
And in the very center, beneath where Lilith’s heart would rest: a single piece of hematite carved with binding runes.
Everything was ready.
The door opened and Victoria entered carrying a tray with additional components.
"How does it look?" Victoria asked.
"Perfect," Elena said. "As perfect as I can make it anyway."
Victoria set the tray down and examined the circles with a critical eye. "You used the Markov family symbols."
"Yes," Elena confirmed. "This ritual is based on techniques my ancestors developed for curse transformation. It’s never been used on a divine curse before but theoretically it should work."
"Theoretically," Victoria repeated, and there was an edge to her voice.
Elena looked at her. Victoria looked terrible. Dark circles under her eyes. Hands shaking slightly. Hair pulled back in a messy knot. She clearly hadn’t slept.
"Did you finish your preparations?" Elena asked quietly.
Victoria understood what she was really asking. Did you gather everything you need for the resurrection if this fails?
"Yes," Victoria said. "Everything is ready. Just in case."
"Good," Elena said.
They worked in silence for a few minutes, making final adjustments to the ritual space.
Then Victoria spoke again. "How confident are you? That this will work?"
Elena was quiet for a long moment before answering honestly. "Sixty percent. Maybe seventy if Lilith is as strong as I think she is."
"That’s not very reassuring," Victoria said.
"I know," Elena said. "But it’s the truth. The curse is divine in origin. Ancient. Powerful. Designed to kill. Transforming it requires Lilith to overpower something that was created by a goddess. The odds are...." She stopped.
"Not in our favor," Victoria finished.
"No," Elena admitted. "But Lilith has advantages. The soul bonds anchoring her. Her Morvaine gift for bond manipulation. Raw power that most witches never develop. And sheer determination. Those things might be enough."
"And if they’re not?" Victoria asked.
Elena met her gaze. "Then you execute your backup plan. And we hope that works better than this does."
Victoria nodded slowly. "How long will the transformation take?"
"Anywhere from thirty minutes to two hours," Elena said. "Depending on how quickly Lilith can pull the curse inward and integrate it into her power. The longer it takes, the more dangerous it becomes. If she’s still fighting after two hours, the curse will have adapted too much and it will consume her."
"So we have a time limit," Victoria said.
"Yes," Elena confirmed. "Two hours. After that...." She didn’t finish the sentence.
She didn’t need to.
After two hours, if Lilith hadn’t succeeded, she would die.
The door opened again and Nicholas entered.
He looked composed. Controlled. Every inch the Alpha. But Elena could see the terror underneath the mask.
"Is it ready?" Nicholas asked.
"Yes," Elena said. "We’re just making final adjustments."
Nicholas walked the perimeter of the circles, examining Elena’s work with the careful attention of someone looking for any possible flaw.
"This is safe?" Nicholas asked. "The wards will contain any backlash?"
"As safe as I can make it," Elena said. "But Alpha Nicholas...there’s no such thing as a completely safe divine curse transformation. Things could go wrong. Magical backlash could breach the wards. The curse could fight back harder than expected. Lilith could..." She stopped.
"Could die," Nicholas finished.
"Yes," Elena said quietly.
Nicholas’s jaw clenched. "And if she starts dying? If we can see it’s not working? Can we stop the ritual?"
Elena wished she could say yes. Wished she could offer him that comfort.
"No," she said. "Once the transformation begins, it has to run its course. Stopping it midway would be worse than letting it finish. The curse would be partially integrated into Lilith’s power but not fully transformed. It would tear her apart from the inside."
"So we just watch," Nicholas said. "Watch her fight and hope she wins."
"Yes," Elena confirmed.
Nicholas turned away and looked out the window at the sunrise. "I hate this. Hate that we can’t fight for her. That all we can do is stand by helplessly."
"I know," Elena said gently.
Sebastian and Lucian entered together, both looking as tense and exhausted as Nicholas.
"Where do you want us?" Sebastian asked.
"Outside the outer circle," Elena said, pointing to marked positions. "One at each cardinal point. Your bond to Lilith will help anchor her during the transformation. Keep her tethered to life even when the curse tries to pull her into death."
