Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings
Chapter 459: Can We Do It Again?
"Exactly," Nicholas said. "And Lilith...if it ever succeeds in pulling you all the way through. If your consciousness becomes trapped here while your body remains in the mortal realm. You won’t be able to get back. You’ll be consumed just like I was."
"So what do I do?" Lilith asked. "Stop using my power?"
"No," Nicholas said. "You need that power. Especially with what’s coming. But you need to be careful. Don’t pull too hard on the Veil essence. Don’t access it directly unless absolutely necessary. And if you feel yourself slipping into the grey, if reality starts to fade....pull back immediately."
"I’m trying to keep it distracted," Nicholas continued. "The entity. I’m...." He paused, looking for words. "I’m making noise in the Veil. Drawing its attention. Keeping it focused on me instead of you. But I don’t know how long I can hold it. The entity is vast. Eventually it will notice what you carry despite my interference."
"Then we make Lilith strong enough to resist it," Victoria said. "We train her. We teach her control. We make sure that even if the entity tries to pull her in, she’s powerful enough to break free."
"That’s the plan," Nicholas agreed. He looked at Elena. "How much time do we have left?"
Elena checked a pocket watch. "Fifteen minutes."
"Then I need to say some things," Nicholas said. "While I can."
He looked at Sebastian first. "Lead them. You’re stronger than you think. I know you doubt yourself without me here. But Sebastian....you’ve always been strong. You just let me make the hard decisions because it was easier. Now you don’t have that option. So step up. Be the Alpha they need."
Sebastian nodded, because he didn’t trust his throat to work at that moment.
Nicholas turned to Lucian. "Protect her. But let her be strong too. I know you want to wrap her in cotton and keep her away from every threat. But Lucian....she needs to fight. She needs to make her own choices. So yes, protect her. But don’t suffocate her in the process."
"I’m trying," Lucian said roughly.
"I know," Nicholas said. "You’re all trying. And you’re doing better than you think."
He looked at Victoria. "Thank you. For saving Lilith. For bringing her back even though it cost you everything. I know the choices you made weren’t easy. I know you carry guilt. But Victoria...Lilith is alive because of you. That matters."
Victoria pressed her hands to her face. Sobbing silently.
Finally, Nicholas looked at Lilith.
"I love you," he said simply. "More than I can express. And Lilith....I need you to understand something. I’m not suffering. I’m not in pain. I’m not desperately wishing I could escape this place. I’m okay here. I’m at peace with my choice. So please....stop carrying guilt over my death. Stop wishing you’d refused resurrection. I gave you life because I thought you were worth it. And I was right."
"But I miss you," Lilith sobbed. "Every day I miss you."
"I miss you too," Nicholas said. "But I’m still here. Still watching. Still reaching for you through the bonds whenever you need me. I can’t hold you physically anymore. Can’t kiss you. Can’t be there the way I want to be. But Lilith....I’m not gone. I’m just....different. Changed. And we’re all going to have to learn to live with that."
He took a step closer. Reaching out to cup her face with translucent hands.
Lilith felt cool pressure against her cheeks. Not solid. Not warm. But unmistakably there.
"You’re going to be magnificent," Nicholas said. "You’re going to master that power. You’re going to face the threats coming and you’re going to survive. And I’m going to be here, in the Veil, in the bonds....watching you become everything I knew you could be."
"I don’t want to say goodbye," Lilith whispered.
"Then don’t," Nicholas said. "Because this isn’t goodbye. Elena said you can do this ritual again. Which means we’ll see each other. Talk. Stay connected. It won’t be the same as before. But it’s not nothing."
"Five minutes," Elena warned. Her voice strained. The ritual was taking its toll.
Nicholas looked at all of them. "I need to go back. Before the entity notices the door you opened. But listen...all of you. Work together. Train Lilith. Prepare for what’s coming. And remember, I’m still part of this. Still connected through the bonds. Still fighting for you even from here."
He was already starting to fade. Becoming more translucent. Less substantial.
"Nicholas...." Lilith reached for him.
"I love you," Nicholas said. "All of you. And I’m so proud of who you’re becoming."
He flickered once more....
And vanished.
The silver light in the center of the circle winked out.
Lilith collapsed to her knees. Sobbing.
Sebastian was there immediately, wrapping his hands around her.
Elena lowered her hands. The ritual circle’s glow fading. The candles returning to normal flames.
"It worked," Elena said. She sounded exhausted. Drained. "Nicholas appeared. He spoke. He’s conscious and aware and existing in the Veil."
"Can we do it again?" Sebastian asked desperately.
"Yes," Elena said. "But not for at least a week. This ritual took everything I had. And Lilith...." She looked at her. "You were the anchor. How do you feel?"
"Empty," Lilith admitted. "Like someone carved out pieces of me."
"Magical depletion," Elena said. "Rest. Recover. And in a week, we can try again. Talk to Nicholas again. Maintain the connection."
Victoria was sitting on the floor. Looking devastated and relieved in equal measure.
"He’s really there," Victoria whispered. "His consciousness survived. We can reach him."
"But he can’t come back," Lucian said. His voice hollow. "He’s trapped in the Veil. Forever."
"Yes," Elena said gently. "But he’s not suffering. He said he’s okay. And that...." She paused. "That’s the best we can hope for."
They sat together in the darkened library. The ritual circle still glowing faintly around them.
Nicholas was gone again. But not lost. Not completely.
They could reach him. Speak with him. Stay connected.
But It wasn’t enough. It would never be enough.
