Sea Survival: My Luck is Off the Charts
Chapter 414 - 412: Automatic Stealth Machine, Where Is the Baby?
The rain outside grew heavier. What had been a drizzle in the early morning had now become a downpour.
But neither of the two who had gone out had returned.
Faye Yardley occasionally stretched her legs and back. She couldn’t just sit still and cultivate the Health Care Scripture the entire time. In fact, the Health Care Scripture circulated faster through her body when she was moving compared to when she was sitting motionless.
Caleb Colby kept running over to the unsealed window to watch the rain. The way it hammered against the glass made it feel like the water could shatter it at any moment.
The rain had a corrosive effect on them, so its current intensity was incredibly worrying.
On top of that, so-called "neighbors" would occasionally come knocking. After bundling up completely, Zachary Pierce had even opened the door once and sent the yammering Evolved Zombie at the entrance flying with a single punch.
It had been much quieter and more peaceful after that.
’Who knew why Evolved Zombies loved visiting so much?’ she wondered. ’Was it because they couldn’t talk during their years as regular zombies, so now that they could speak again, they were dying to do it nonstop?’
After finishing a set of stretching exercises, Faye Yardley pointed at the quilt sealing the window just as Caleb Colby ran back. It was completely soaked, and some rainwater was already dripping down the fabric, forming rivulets on the floor.
"Be careful. Don’t step in it."
Although the rainwater wouldn’t eat through the soles of their shoes and affect their feet, who knew what other effects it might have.
The best solution was to avoid all contact.
As for the two who were out, they weren’t idiots. ’They’ll figure out a way to avoid the rain,’ she thought.
Under the light, Zachary Pierce was busy assembling something. Faye Yardley glanced over. He had been at it for almost an hour already. ’It looks so complicated.’
She moved closer to Caleb Colby and asked quietly, "What exactly is Mr. Pierce making?"
"Oh, Pierce is assembling an automated Invisibility reconnaissance drone," Caleb Colby said, glancing at Faye Yardley before continuing, "It’s just that the assembly is a little too troublesome. It’s all very delicate work."
"Then why not just assemble it beforehand, put it in his pack, and bring it in ready to use?"
"Can’t do that. Apparently, assembling it activates the AI, and then the system classifies it as an intelligent life-form, so it can’t be stored in a pack."
Faye Yardley raised an eyebrow. ’So that’s a thing.’ "Does that mean he has to take it apart to bring it back?"
"Of course."
A while later, Zachary Pierce finished assembling the machine. He did something to activate the device, which looked like a cross between a spider and an octopus, then issued a string of commands, and the machine vanished from before their eyes.
Zachary Pierce got up, walked over, and opened the door. It was unclear how he knew the machine had gone out, but he closed the door a moment later.
Then, he picked up a nearby sphere, pressed it twice, and it unfolded into a tablet. He then projected its screen onto a wall.
A clear image soon appeared on the wall.
The image was constantly moving, showing a descent down the stairs. The ceiling spun into view with every turn of the staircase.
Then it went out through an open window in the stairwell. The rain was so heavy that it was impossible to see anything more than a meter away; even things within a meter were blurry.
Unexpectedly, there were quite a few Evolved Zombies hurrying through the rain, and none of them were using umbrellas.
Pairs of feet flashed past the drone’s view.
Soon, the feet disappeared. A wall came into view, and the drone began to climb up it.
It reached the corner of an eave and adjusted its position. The view was filled with the raging storm and the Evolved Zombies hurrying through the rain.
Before long, the Invisibility machine continued to climb higher, the WHOOSH of the rain never ceasing.
The moment a resident opened their door, the machine slipped inside.
"So annoying, so annoying! A little rat really did get into the house. When is Amy going to recover? I was supposed to send him away in two days, and now look! Who knows how much longer it’ll be. This is so damn annoying!!"
A familiar, irritable female voice reached their ears. Faye Yardley instinctively looked at Zachary Pierce.
"Yes, I sent it there to investigate," he said. "I figured our landing spot wasn’t a coincidence. It’s clear that Mrs. Sheldon is no ordinary person."
Paul followed behind her without a word.
"Paul, are you mute? And when did the decoy dolls crawl out? Go count them for me. See how many are left. If they’re all broken, I’ll wring your neck."
"Yes, ma’am."
Paul headed upstairs. Mrs. Sheldon plopped down on a chair, then lifted her foot and kicked over the coffee table in front of her. The image on their screen tumbled several times along with it.
"AHHH! Dammit! How much longer do I have to stay in this godforsaken city?! I’m so pissed, so pissed!"
Just as Mrs. Sheldon’s temper flared, a sharp knock on the door cut through the sound of the wind and rain, clearly reaching her ears.
"Come in!"
A tall woman soon walked into the house, followed by three men. After the door closed, the sound of the storm outside was completely shut out.
"Well now, who could have possibly managed to displease Mrs. Sheldon?" The woman lifted her wide-brimmed hat and took off her raincoat.
"It’s her!" Faye Yardley hadn’t expected to see a familiar face here.
Zachary Pierce frowned slightly. "Chloe Hughes and her group, from the lab in the last Dungeon."
"Yes, that’s her. But she shouldn’t be in the Dungeon anymore."
After all, Faye Yardley had heard from Yvonne Lynch that Chloe Hughes and her group had already arrived where Yvonne was.
’So the inside of a Dungeon and the outside are actually connected?’
Seeing Chloe Hughes, Mrs. Sheldon said irritably, "Hmph. What are you doing here? Came to laugh at me?"
"How could I?" Chloe Hughes raised her hand. The men who came with her righted the coffee table, then took out a metal case, placed it on top, and opened it.
Inside was a row of six vials filled with a deep red reagent.
"I’m here to give you something nice. Your stupid nephew should be in need of it."
"You’d be that kind?"
Chloe Hughes leaned back and said casually, "Of course I’m not that kind. I’m here to ask you to help me find two people. This is your payment."
"Who are you looking for?"
"Two little girls, no older than fifteen. They just need to be cute and sweet, with well-behaved personalities."
"What do you need them for? People like that are a dime a dozen back in the new city."
Chloe Hughes snorted. "Don’t ask what you’re not supposed to ask. Just tell me if you can find them or not."
"Is that all? Simple. I’ll have them for you in a couple of days."
"By the way, how’s Amy? Is he okay?"
"Someone snapped his neck. He’s lying in the hospital."
Chloe Hughes gave Mrs. Sheldon a deep look. "No matter how much you hate it, this is your home now. You should clean up the little rats when they need cleaning up."
"It-it’s not your place to teach me how to do things! Don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong!"
"Tsk, tsk. We still don’t know where Baby is. You don’t need my help anymore?"
