Secret Marriage: The CEO's Pampered Wife
Chapter 407 - 385: He’s Really No Fool
Nancy Hughes asked anxiously, "Why didn’t you go after her?"
"Why would I chase after her?"
"She likes you!"
"But the person I like is right in front of me!"
Nancy looked up in surprise. ’Is this his roundabout way of confessing to me?’
"I don’t like you!" she said, turning her head away.
"I know." Dylan Heston walked inside. "Hurry and wash up. I’ll make breakfast."
Flustered by Dylan’s confession, she finally came out of the bathroom after washing up. Dylan had already taken on the role of a househusband, with breakfast laid out on the table.
Her stomach betrayed her with a few loud growls. She sat down, picked up her chopsticks, and started to eat.
’Actually, I’ve always wanted a home. It doesn’t have to be a big one. Just having someone there for me when I need them, just like this.’
’But logically, that person shouldn’t be Dylan.’
After breakfast, she went to wash the dishes.
She noticed Blue wasn’t pestering her for food today. When she grabbed a can of cat food and called out for him, she found the cat had defected at some point. He was now sleeping on Dylan’s lap, happily wagging his tail.
’Am I raising a dog?!’
Tapping the can, she called, "Fatty, come and get your fish snacks, or they’ll be all gone!"
The can clinked, but Blue completely ignored her, nuzzling his head against Dylan’s palm instead. ’Definitely a traitor cat.’
Blue only jumped down from the sofa after Dylan gave his chubby body a gentle nudge.
"Fatty Blue, you little flirt," she muttered quietly to the cat. "Do you really think he’d fall for a cat like you?"
’I’ve already fed the cat. Why isn’t he leaving yet?’
Nancy squatted to one side, stealing glances at Dylan, wondering what was on his mind.
Her furtive glance met Dylan’s. Caught red-handed. Dylan spoke up. "Come here."
Nancy didn’t move. "What do you want?"
"Go get changed. We’re going out."
"I’m not changing! I don’t want to go out!" ’I’m dead tired right now.’
"Fine by me. I’ll just stay here and keep you company then."
"...Wait. I’ll go get changed right now."
She gritted her teeth. ’Fine, I’ll go out.’
’The thought of him staying in my apartment just feels... wrong.’
She changed quickly and came out of the bedroom. "I’m ready!"
Dylan stood up from the sofa. "Let’s go."
’He didn’t even say where we’re going.’
Dylan Heston brought Nancy Hughes to an art gallery.
’The last time I eavesdropped on Gwen Gunn and Hannah Gunn’s phone call, I think Hannah said she was coming here.’
After he picked up an invitation, the man walking ahead of her suddenly stopped, turned around, and took her hand.
She instinctively tried to pull away, but Dylan held on even tighter.
She glanced up at Dylan, her discomfort obvious. Her palms were sweating profusely.
Dylan noticed the sweat on her forehead. "Feeling hot?"
She nodded immediately, taking the opportunity to wrench her hand free.
Dylan let go of her hand, only to place it on her waist instead.
’Great. This is even more intimate.’
Nancy wanted to cry but had no tears. She could feel a distinct warmth spreading through her body from his hand on her waist.
The gallery had just received a new collection of paintings, all of a style that interested Nancy.
As it turned out, Dylan was also knowledgeable on the subject. Whenever there was something Nancy didn’t understand, he would lean in and explain it in his low voice, his words brushing against her ear.
"You really know a lot."
Dylan chuckled. "Don’t you know what I do for a living?"
Nancy blinked and asked, "So, what do you do?"
’The rumors say he’s a good-for-nothing thug who’s into all kinds of trouble.’
"Just remember one thing. I’m a bad guy, so don’t do anything to make me angry."
"Is that a threat?" Nancy narrowed her eyes and glared at him.
"Yes," he admitted honestly.
’Okay, I’m speechless again.’
The gallery was filled with prominent figures, many of whom recognized Dylan Heston.
Everyone knew that Dylan was never seen with a woman—everyone, that is, except for Nancy.
When all eyes turned to her, filled with curiosity, she grew nervous and instinctively tried to hide behind Dylan, her hand clutching the back of his shirt for dear life.
Someone even asked who she was. Dylan calmly guided her forward. "This is my girlfriend, Nancy Hughes."
As soon as the words left his mouth, nearly everyone turned to stare at Dylan in stunned surprise.
They had all assumed that a man like Dylan wouldn’t have a "girlfriend." They figured Nancy could, at most, be a date or a mistress.
Nancy was so surprised she forgot how to smile, her mind racing in a panic. ’How could he just introduce me as his girlfriend in front of all these people?’
Once they learned Nancy was Dylan’s girlfriend, everyone immediately began to shower her with praise and compliments.
