Chapter 2498: Break a piece off

  • Next Chapter

"Let’s break a piece off and study it."

Max’s eyes lit up the moment that I said this before he turned to look at all of the relics that were still spread out.

The way that he looked at the relics, it was almost as if he was choosing groceries.

However, it wasn’t as if I would let him choose and pick which relic we chipped a piece off of. I already had something in mind, which was why I immediately put away the rest of the relics.

As soon as those relics disappeared, he turned to look at me as if he was asking, "Are you seriously doing this?"

I knew that he was angry since he thought that I was going back on my word, but I just calmly said, "You don’t get to touch any of these like that, they belong to someone else. Since they belong to someone else, it’ll be troublesome if we damage them."

Though Max didn’t say anything, his eyes were certainly more honest than he was.

"Why does that even matter to us?"

Even though he looked at me like this, it wasn’t as if I was going to agree that easily.

So instead I just said, "Go and bring that stone shard over."

A disappointed look appeared on his face and he looked at me as if he was wondering if I was being serious. However, it wasn’t as if I was going to budge on this matter just because he was disappointed with this.

That stone shard really was the only thing that we were able to use compared to the other relics that I had brought back.

After all, that stone shard was clearly a remnant of a relic.

It didn’t have the same function as a normal relic and didn’t even seem to have as much immortal energy in it as the other relics.

Though it wasn’t certain that this meant that it was safe to use, this thing still had a better chance than the other relics.

After hesitating for a while, Max finally went to get the stone shard.

When he came back with it, there was an awkward smile that appeared on my face.

"What is on it?"

Max didn’t seem embarrassed at all by the state of the stone shard.

In fact, the look on his face was almost as if he was proud of the things that were covering the stone shard.

It looked like the stone shard had been abused with the way that it was covered in the different fluids. At the same time, there were a few solids that were caked onto it as if it had dried over several days.

This was a clear sign that Max had been busy during the time that I had been away.

It was honestly a wonder that he hadn’t already destroyed this thing with the way that he had been studying it.

Even after all of this, there was no sign of regret on his face.

But then again, it wasn’t as if I could make someone like this apologize for doing something like this. After all, I knew that he was someone that was crazy about research and he would have done this no matter what.

In the end, it was better to move on.

Still, I had to admit that the durability of the relic was quite good with how it was able to take all of this abuse. I had to start thinking about how I was even going to chip a piece off of this stone shard.

After all, it really didn’t seem like it was going to be easy to do.

In the end, I chose to fight fire with fire.

Since this thing was a relic made from immortal energy, then I should use another relic made from immortal energy to cut it.

It just so happened that I had one that I was already using and it should be one of higher quality since it was a relic that came from someone from the upper realm in the first place.

Which was why I released the immortal energy that was gathered inside of the dagger and brought it over to the stone shard. With this immortal energy around it, I brought it down onto the stone shard to cut it.

Only I found that it really wasn’t that simple.

"It isn’t making a single mark..."

I knew that these immortal energy relics were tough, but I never thought that it would be this tough.

There was a part of me that even regretted choosing to chip a piece off this stone shard.

However, it wasn’t as if I could take these words back since I could see the way that Max was looking at me. It really didn’t seem like he was intending on letting me take back these words no matter what happened.

So the only thing that I could do was try to figure out a way to cut this stone shard.

"It isn’t working at all..."

No matter how I tried cutting it with the dagger, it seemed like it wasn’t making a single mark.

The good thing was that the dagger wasn’t being damaged either while this was happening or else it really would have been a problem. I could see from the way that Max looked at the stone shard and dagger, he was hoping that some kind of powder would come from them scraping together like this.

But in the end, there was nothing that came from them.

It seemed like no matter how they were used against each other, neither of them could damage the other item.

They were items that were at the same level that were protected by a proportional amount of immortal energy. It really didn’t matter how we did this, it wouldn’t work as long as they were as strong as each other.

This was something that really surprised me since I didn’t think that this stone shard would be this strong.

It seemed like I had underestimated the master of the puppets...
