Chapter 133: The Heavens Will Cry
Chapter 133: Chapter 133: The Heavens Will Cry
The sky above was like a shattered tapestry. Cracks spread across it, creating a precarious, oppressive feeling, as if it could all come crashing down at any moment.
Violent astral winds howled from between the intersecting cracks. The very laws of heaven and earth were locked in a struggle. One force seemed bent on destruction, trying to widen the fissures.
The other desperately tried to heal them, but mending what was broken was already a monumental task. With the astral winds in the way, the process became even more arduous.
Staring at the sky, Su Han was speechless for a long, long time.
After what felt like an eternity, he finally pulled his gaze away and looked at Su Yi in awe.
"The sky... cracked?"
Su Yi nodded, her gaze sweeping across the area. Her eyes lit up when they landed on the decorative rockery in the courtyard.
She raised her hand. An Odd Stone from the rockery flew into her grasp, where a flame in her palm instantly melted it into a Seven-Color Stone Liquid.
Cradling the Seven-Color Stone Liquid, Su Yi gave a gentle lift of her hand. The liquid transformed into a trickling stream that flew toward the sky, seeping into the cracks in the firmament.
Upon contact with the Seven-Color Stone Liquid, the astral winds recoiled as if they had met a terrifying predator.
Guided by the Power of Rules, the fissures in the sky shrank bit by bit until they were nothing more than hairline fractures.
The Seven-Color Stone Liquid flowed through the fractures, filling them in wherever it passed.
Before long, the cracks in the sky had vanished completely. In their place, vibrant, iridescent threads now hung draped across the heavens.
Seen from the ground, the sight was breathtaking.
Su Han’s neck was stiff from staring up at the sky, taking in the entire transformation, before he finally looked away.
He turned to Su Yi and cautiously, tentatively, breathed a single name. "Nuwa?"
Su Yi looked at him in confusion, blinking, a picture of complete bewilderment.
"Ahem... It’s all... mended already?"
Su Yi tossed aside the stony residue in her hand, casually dusted off her palms, and looked at Su Han with a nod.
Su Han: "..."
’Seriously, why do you look so practiced at this?’
"Ahem... This sky seems a little... fragile. It cracked over nothing. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think it was trying to play the victim."
’Playing the victim?’
Su Yi looked at him and shook her head. She had already grown immune to the bizarre words that were always popping out of Su Han’s mouth.
After a moment’s thought, she offered an explanation. "It’s shattered before."
"Shattered before?"
Su Han froze. "You mean... the sky has actually shattered before?"
Su Yi nodded.
Su Han: "...H-how did it shatter?"
"Fighting."
"Fighting?"
This time, Su Han was truly dumbfounded. "Who did it?"
Su Yi extended her hand, and another stone flew from the rockery, melting into Seven-Color Stone Liquid in her palm.
She looked at Su Han, her expression as calm and natural as if she were recounting what she had for breakfast—a bowl of savory soy milk and a pair of fried dough sticks.
Her crimson lips parted, and she uttered a single word that landed with the weight of Mount Tai. "Me."
"CRACK~"
Su Han looked up, his eyes... filled with a trace of sympathy.
A few moments later, several more iridescent lines appeared across the sky.
’What in the world did you go through back then?’ Su Han wondered as he looked at Su Yi. ’Or rather, what did the sky go through to get shattered by you?’
’Just who is she? Why is something as worldview-shattering as breaking the sky treated so casually by her, as if it were less important than a piece of jujube and white jade cucumber pastry?’
But... after a glance at the sky, now webbed with one crack after another, Su Han ultimately suppressed his questions.
’I don’t know why... but the heavens, a concept that once inspired awe, that countless senior Transmigrators had vowed to defy...’
’At this moment, all I feel for it is pity.’
’Thinking about it now... yeah, it really doesn’t have it easy.’
But then he thought of his own ancestor, who claimed she’d been "dead and gone" for over 1,300 years but didn’t seem quite so gone after all.
And just like that, his sympathy for the sky vanished.
’So... you only know how to bully the weak and fear the strong, huh!’
Dinner after that was a relatively peaceful affair.
The only difference was that the brilliant stars in the night sky were veiled by a seven-colored radiance.
The darkness was filled with motes of seven-colored light, which not only added a unique beauty to the evening but also lifted the diners’ spirits.
So much so that halfway through the meal, Su Han found himself wondering, ’Maybe I should have Su Yi do this every night from now on.’
’Or maybe as a special monthly program?’
’After all... a night sky embellished with seven-colored decorations is just so beautiful!’
’I can’t help it!’
Of course, it was better to just think about such things.
’If this happened every day, or even just once a month... over time, the sky itself would start crying!’
Because the pitiful sky was too much of a pushover, Su Han ultimately failed to find out the true identity of his "ancestral grandmother."
And so... he had to temporarily drop any follow-up on the assassination attempt.
After dinner, the two of them leaned back on a bench under the great banyan tree, admiring the night scenery for a while and occasionally speaking in hushed tones.
Of course, it was mostly Su Han talking and Su Yi listening.
Before, she might have occasionally chimed in with a few words. But today—perhaps because she felt a little sorry for the ’one’ above their heads—she just listened to Su Han speak, only nodding, shaking her head, or smiling in response.
Even so, it didn’t feel boring at all just sitting there together.
It wasn’t until late into the night that they finally parted ways and returned to their respective rooms to rest.
Lying in bed and watching the seven-colored moonlight stream through the window, Su Han felt drowsiness wash over him.
He yawned, pulled the covers over himself, and drifted off to sleep.
He slept for an unknown amount of time, lost in a daze.
Then, a rustling sound reached his ears.
He opened his eyes. The sound was coming from the courtyard. Su Han swept the area with his Divine Thought, and his expression couldn’t help but turn strange.
’He... Why is he here tonight?’
’Didn’t he say he was going to try all the delicacies at Natural Residence first?’
’Don’t tell me he already figured out my identity, and everything he said before was just to mislead me so he could catch me off guard?’
As he mulled it over, Su Han slipped into a set of black clothes and took out a black cloth to cover his face.
He walked to the window and vaulted out.
Fifth Six Seven had just leaped down from the top of the wall and was carefully tiptoeing toward Su Han’s room.
All of a sudden, a black figure burst out from a window to the side.
The sudden shock nearly made him scream, ’Assassin!’
He then remembered that he *was* the assassin and belatedly clamped a hand over his mouth.
When he got a clear look at the figure that had burst out of the window, Fifth Six Seven was taken aback.
"Brother Yi, what are you doing here?"
"Damn it! I’m dressed like this and you can still recognize me?"
Su Han ripped off his face-covering and stared at Fifth Six Seven, exasperated.
"Heh heh, I don’t know what treasure you used to block Divine Sense probes, Brother Yi, but I, Fifth Six Seven, have been around the block a few times. These Eyes of Golden Flame of mine weren’t trained for nothing."
Su Han pursed his lips. ’Eyes of Golden Flame? Who do you think you are, Sun Wukong?’
’Besides, Sun Wukong doesn’t even exist in this world, okay?’
He grumbled to himself, feeling like something was a little off, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on it.
Su Han shook his head and looked at Fifth Six Seven. "Didn’t you say you were going to try every delicacy at Natural Residence before making your move? Why tonight?"
Fifth Six Seven blinked. "I did. I’ve already eaten all of them!"
Su Han: "..."
’Son of a bitch, Natural Residence’s Manchu-Han Imperial Feast alone has one hundred and eight courses. Add in all the other specialty dishes, and you’re talking over three thousand different kinds of food.’
’And you’re telling me you finished it all in one night?’
’Excuse me... were you... no, wait, *are* you a pig?’
